Lanning seems like a genuinely good dude as well. I believe him when he says he's 100 percent committed to Oregon. I don't feel that way about guys like Lincoln Riley or Lane Kiffin.

I was told USC had an air to them. I always just assumed it was the smog in Los Angeles.

What? Oregon Fans are NOT the Worst?
GatOrlando replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
One went on to become a detective that put on a pretty cool suit on and tried to recruit a really strong swimmer, a really fast guy, a really strong woman and a guy who was like a computer to do great works involving potential aliens. -
What? Oregon Fans are NOT the Worst?

Who is Seton Hall? What is Xavier? ...... Big East basketball has toxic fans? I thought they were all private schools and that movie with Robin Williams taught me that those schools were all filled with only the most upstanding young men. -
No. 1 2027 Cornerback Recruit Duvay Williams Considering USC Trojans, Oregon, Georgia WWW.SI.COM The USC Trojans are one of four schools that have stood out to the No. 1 cornerback in the class of 2027, Duvay... The number one corner is down to three. Guess who is one of those three......

I live in Arizona but I'm not a Pacific Coaster in terms of knowledge or lineage. Does USC have money? I know it's a great private school in the second biggest market in the country. But do they have money or initiatives like Oregon, Michigan or Ohio State? I'm obviously from an area with a lot of transients and I constantly ran into Wisconsin, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State graduates that heavily supported their alma mater. I've run into them in the few overseas countries I've been to and they proudly sport their gear to the confusion of those overseas because supporting one's university isn't done to the extent we do it over here. They support their club teams like crazy but not "University" as they say. I don't really recall running into many USC fans. Maybe it's because the weather sucks and there aren't a lot of great jobs in the Midwest and there are in So Cal or Miami(another private school). I just don't see the support worldwide. Oregon is 45,000 strong undergrads right now? Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State are in the 60,000 range I believe. I don't know what USC or Miami are because of them being private but I'd wager them to be maybe 30,000. I listen to Cowherd because he seems to have ties to the Pacific and he brought up how NIL is allowing northern schools with huge alumni bases to outside SEC schools like Alabama or LSU. He was speaking about school size, migration and donors and said Nick Saban retired because he saw the tea leaves. I know I'm off topic here but it goes in line with USC being a blue blood. Do they have the money coming in to keep kids in State and out of Oregon? Now that they're in the B1G you have all those huge schools eyeing that talent and as a guy that knows about Florida high school football somewhat, once that gate opens you can't close it. Urban popped it open in 2012 and Florida hasn't ever recovered. There was an arrogance and lack of attention on it by our former AD Foley who was more interested in building golf courses , swimming pools and other athletic complexes that he neglected the money making one in athletics and now Florida is in a decade plus drought of doing anything. It's not enough to be in Florida, Texas or California. It's not enough to be a great academic institution. It's not enough to have old trophies. You have to either put everything behind the big moneymaker or start accepting mediocrity as you watch Notre Dame, Ohio State, Washington and Michigan compete for the title.

More on UO/tOSU, Blue Chip Ratios, and the Future
GatOrlando replied to AnotherOD's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I've always heard of mid tier P4 programs like Iowa, Mississippi State, Minnesota, Washington State, and Kansas State recruiting Sun Belt, Mountain West or Mac guys. Oregon used to offer guys that had offers from schools in those conferences but that is no longer the case. When Chip Kelly was turning Oregon in a power he would have a guy like Dixon play QB just like West Virginia under Rich Rodriguez had Slaton. Both guys were seen as purely "athletes" from schools like Texas or Florida. That's how programs from the smaller pool got to swim in the deeper water. Oregon kept pushing and is now a full member while West Virginia unfortunately didn't ever have the resources and went back in time to grab a relic from the past. Come to think of it, 2007 West Virginia vs Oregon would've been a really fun game to watch. I wish CFB would do in season conference challenges like CBB. -

Who assigns stars to a recruit? Is it linked to competition, numbers, athletic attributes like speed and size? Four years ago Quinn Ewers was rated as the highest rated guy since Andrew Luck, but then some say it was Caleb Williams. Anybody remember Clausen in 2006? He was talked up as a future top pick going into his freshman year at Notre Dame. I mean at certain positions I can see the obvious like Jeremiah Smith. A 17 year old that is 6'3 and 220 that runs a 4.4 or whatever he is just jumps out. But I've also heard stars are attributed based off offers. Like a guy only getting offers from Boise or Wyoming may be a three star but then if Oregon, Texas and Ohio State want him than he magically gets another star. -
My cousin used to run a site that centred around politics. For a time I would visit it and he would show me the headaches of running a website. I haven't frequented it in a while and I'm not sure if he still operates it, but I wouldn't have imagined all the effort that goes into keeping a site clean if I hadn't seen what he paid people to help him keep it clear. I appreciate the job Charles and all those that help him do in keeping this site free and clean of clutter. Even if I occasionally make it a little harder with a boneheaded post. I can say this is one of the few message boards that I feel like a welcome guest even as an outsider.

Everyone in the top ten excluding Liberty and UCF are top football programs. I wonder if UCF fans will hang a banner. -
ACC Commissioner- "Winning a Conference Championship Matters"
GatOrlando replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
There's big money invested in those championship games. They matter as much as the format allows it . Maybe you give the winners a double bye or a second round home game. I don't know, maybe it'll all sort out over time. I grew up looking forward to the championship Saturday. Florida had to beat Arkansas in 2006 and Alabama in 2008 to get into the BCS Championship game. That 2008 game vs Alabama was a great game. -
Duh U Finding New Ways To Cheat..."Allegedly"😉
GatOrlando replied to GatOrlando's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Ice is cold. The sun is hot and Duh U is cheating. If Super Mario is such a great recruiter than why does he have to cheat? Obviously he's got money behind him, but he or they still cheat. It's like a billionaire cheating on his tax forms or not tipping. -
I've said it plenty and my friends here likely share my sentiment regarding one program that finds ways to cheat even in this age of anything goes. Redshirt Sophomore corner Xavier Lucas is from the Miami Dade area and was a consensus four star that committed to Wisconsin. Well apparently he signed a two year agreement through NIL that was meant to keep him in Madison for two years. Except now he doesn't want to be there and tried to enter the transfer portal under the guise of his father being ill and wanting to be closer to home. Guess where that destination is?? Yeah it's duh U under Super Mario. Wisconsin refused his transfer request but Xavier left school and enrolled at Miami anyhow. I'm only guessing that it isn't for the private school education and word is that his father is fine. I have a hunch there was a bag involved and we don't need Miami Vice to find it. Mr. Lucas and his attorney put out a statement saying Wisconsin was playing checkers while they were playing chess. Wisconsin is fighting this and alleging tampering from duh U. I foolishly thought there was no way Miami could find a way to cheat in today's game, but maybe I was wrong. I hope Wisconsin wins and Miami faces discipline because if not there are absolutely no rules, and you could have guys switching in season. Why Wisconsin DB Xavier Lucas' transfer to Miami triggered tampering accusations, potential legal battle - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM The Big Ten, NCAA and Wisconsin have all weighed in the DB's transfer in a battle that could set a precedent for future...

Yes sir!! Washington is playing their best ball but I don't see Hurts throwing three interceptions. Third time is the charm hopefully.

I agree with you on the later part Jon. I'll still say the first three titles were due to Bill, especially the first against the greatest show on turf. He did to St. Louis what the Giants would do to him six years later. Tom Brady proved to be the greatest QB when he led a franchise that hadn't been to the playoffs since 2007 to a Super bowl in year one. Belichick subsequently only reached one playoff after Tom left. I think Bill can't get that out of his head. It's crazy but it's a motivation to win something without Tom as his QB.
-
Don't worry. Miami has Super Mario as their coach. They'll beat themselves.

It didn't help that Goff had three turnovers that killed drives. The Lions defense hasn't been able to stop a sneeze all year. Props to Washington. I feel a little bad for Lions fans though. But I'm an Eagles fan and now we get to host the NFC championship. The Commanders have won both meetings vs the Eagles this far so I'm hoping Philly does what many teams that have lost to an opponent already has done.

Minnesota claims 7 National Titles, the last being in 1960. In reality only three are considered undisputed. Those being the wire to wire ones in 1930, 1936, and 1940. What does any of that mean to current day events? I don't know, but if a Gopher fan tries to flex on you for your lack of titles I'm sure you could go claim one like 2002 or 1941. There has to be some fifth party publication that thought Oregon deserved recognition. The Western Canadian Duck Lodge Association Of Feathered Friends In American Lore. Alabama has 18 claimed titles. Probably a couple involving Forest Gump. AOL or Ask Jeeves maybe.

I think Brady was responsible for those last three championships. But Belichick was more responsible for the first three, definitely the upset of the greatest show on turf.

Well it is quite different actually. The question going forward is does this mean other sports like basketball or women's volleyball are going to get GMs as well? It's through the school and I can see people asking why only the football program gets an extra position and logically I would respond that it's the moneymaking program that funds lacrosse and bowling. But logistics aren't considered in these things. "Michael Lombardi, who serves as GM of North Carolina football, has responded to a report from CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones revealing that Bill Belichick and the university do not have a fully executed and signed contract. His plea? Stop making an issue because the Tar Heels coach is currently hitting the recruiting trail with ferocity and the NFL is not an option" Access to this page has been denied WWW.KXAN.COM px-captcha

What drew my attention was the mention of the word GM. Is it any different than an AD or is it specifically centered on football operations?
-
UNC has all the resources to make the leap. It'll be interesting to see if Miami, UNC, SMU, FSU or Clemson can compete yearly against top members of the B1G or SEC. The ACC should put pressure on Notre Dame to join. That's the only way I see them holding onto their top programs. If it drives them to the B1G so be it.

Bill Belichick is returning to coaching after a one year broadcasting gig. Surprisingly enough it isn't to try and resurrect the Jets, Bears, Browns, Titans or Jaguars. It's at an ACC basketball school. While he has yet to ink his deal officially, he has brought in several assistant coaches already that are reportedly only there to coach. UNC has a GM now and the model looks to have talent scouts recruit players instead of assistant head coaches. Think of it like the NFL draft. Many NFL coaches would never come to CFB because they don't want to do anything but coach. Apparently this is going to be the model UNC is going with. I can see the benefits of streamlining operations like this but I also see the pitfalls. Most young position coaches want to get their guys, many feel like that puts them at an advantage instead of being given guys by scouts. Herman Edwards tried to bring an NFL approach years ago to ASU but all it resulted in was major recruiting violations and many losses. But that was before NIL. Perhaps the game is changing and we'll see a more pro like model. Either way it's going to be interesting to see how Belichick does. Nick Saban failed in the NFL so just because you're the greatest of all time at one level doesn't mean you'll do it at another.

Will the B1G Trade a Champ Game for 'Championship Saturday?'
GatOrlando replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The NFL pretty much destroys it's competition regardless. It's always had Thanksgiving, now it's taken Christmas from the NBA. Roger Goodell needs to have a strong united front come to him and tell him that college football is the feeder system that helps keep the NFL alive. You have Oregon fans paying attention to the Broncos and Chargers. You have LSU fans becoming Bengals fans. Wyoming fans are Bills fans and Louisville fans are Ravens fans this week. But you don't get that without strong college fanbases. Heck you probably know a Washington fan who was rooting for the Falcons and how many of them have ever likely been to Georgia? Klatt was on Cowherd and he spoke on how college football was the number two sport in America to the NFL, but even college football has taken a backseat to the NFL Playoffs. He proposed college football start earlier and have Army vs Navy be the first game in August. Have it be a celebration and have college football start two weeks earlier and have no three week gap to start the playoffs. -
It's not up to the college to tell McDonalds that they have to pay a female basketball player the same as or even at all that they would for Dillon Gabriel. Just like a female ice skater is more marketable than a male ice skater. It's not about feelings at all, it's about $$$ and that's what NIL is all about.
