Did the Big 12 get anything close to this when Colorado left the first time to join the then PAC 10? How come Oregon has to agree to this when they and everybody else were leaving with no tethers? Was it to get the playoffs deal approved? It won't hurt those that left but it does prop up a worthless league who are putting those millions of dollars into their corrupt hands. If this were the BCS it would've been Oregon vs Georgia for the title. If it were the four team playoff it would've been Oregon vs Texas and Georgia vs Notre Dame in the semifinals right now. Ohio State has a niche for making runs in innagural events.

Klatt works for FOX. I take his words the same way I do those from Kirk Herbstreit. It's been my view that the B1G has the better top three this year. With Michigan and Washington matching up in the championship last year, I think the top programs in the B1G could win the SEC going forward. I don't think you could say that even four years ago. NIL has made Notre Dame a real threat as well. Recall the last time Notre Dame looked as physical as a SEC heavyweight. In the south the general feeling is college football just means more. There aren't any pro teams in many of the southern states. So Ole Miss, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn and South Carolina and Clemson are the only games in town.

I tuned in to the Locked on Ducks podcast after the game. The two guys seemed to agree that Oregon seemed to think it best to try and just duplicate the gameplay from October. The defense still couldn't stop number four, but they couldn't even generate a pass rush due to Chip deciding to use his quick passing routes instead of of runs up the middle. There were two coaching staff that took away two different mindsets after the first game. One decided the victory was a sign that everything was okay and that all that needed to be done was clean up on some red zone trips. The other saw a chance to flip the script and bring a level of aggressiveness to match their talent level. Don't run into the teeth of a talented line littered with NFL guys. Throw to a guy who is bigger, stronger and faster than anybody on the other side.

I don't see why Oregon can't be an annual threat now that it's become about resources. If you need a piece like say offensive line, receiver, corner or QB. You can now miss out on more recruits because you can remedy it by taking a guy from a program like Boise or Oregon State. I mean look at Bo Nix, Cam Ward, Dillon Gabriel, Will Howard, Joe Burrow, Justin Fields, Jalen Hurts, Caleb William, Russell Williams, Kyler Murray or Baker Mayfield. Many of those guys were before the transfer portal free agency era began and cost them a year of eligibility. Now you just go get a guy like Kyle McCord and make him your day one starter. Most wrote McCord off after last year despite him being a quality starter. He completed over 65 percent of his throws and you saw how bad Ohio States offense looked in the Cotton Bowl vs Missouri without him. Oregon can roll with a guy like Moore or they could go after a guy like Rourke who really elevated the Indiana Hoosiers offense. Oregon could convince Ewers to skip the draft and try to raise his draft stock by coming to Oregon like Bo Nix did. Nix was considered a third or fourth round guy before his senior year and he's a potential rookie of the year for Denver who took him in the first round.

I think the majority of fans are rational and it's the lunatic fringe that is at most eight to ten percent that ruin it for everyone else. Just like most parts of everyday life. We generally agree it's much easier to be ourselves and be kind. Take away the logo, color scheme and whatever else we think that separates us in our fan hood and we're just people. I've been to several different states and a few different countries. Get past the superficial things like language, theological ideas or skin pigmentation and I've found most to share quite a bit in common with me. Amazing isn't it? I will say that the level of back and forth is mostly attributed to our competitive attitudes. Coke or Pepsi. Ford or Chevrolet. McDonalds vs Burger King. Nike vs Reebok.SEC vs B1G. It's fun as long as we don't take it past playful jibes.

I've ranted on the playoff seeding enough. What I saw tonight was one of two likely outcomes. I commented on another post where somebody had predicted a two score Oregon win. Their reasons were valid, but I don't use what ifs as variables. Oregon won by one at home in October. Ohio State was either going to start fast and win by multiple scores or they were going to lose a close one to Oregon. Ohio State has advantages like Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs that you just can't match. They have five stars that we don't even talk about like Carnell Tate, JT and Sonny Styles. Forget about Ebeka. I believe Oregon has the more consistent QB, better special teams and better head coach. Ohio State has a better defensive coordinator and Oregon has a better offensive coordinator. Chip Kelly just has more Aces that he can pull out regardless of scheme. I really thought Oregon was going to keep it close because the talent level was up to it and Day would choke. But A plus Ohio State came out and before Oregon knew the game had started it was over. I liked that Oregon kept playing tough but the mountain was too high. Disappointing end to a brilliant season. I don't know who I want to win it now. I can't root for Ohio State, Texas, Penn State or Georgia. Notre Dame?😒 Lou Holtz will be insufferable.

Alabama got beaten by Vanderbilt and a bad Oklahoma squad. The hens at ESPN were crying that they got left out. They had three losses!!! Oregon was the only undefeated team and they played everybody who is anybody in the B1G. They beat Boise as well. Give Ohio State their credit, Oregon got beat up. But everyone knew Ohio State was better than everybody outside of Oregon, Texas, Georgia, Notre Dame and Penn State. Clearly better. Oregon played their worst game in the worst moment. Not because of rust, overconfidence or Lanning imo. They just got beat by a team on a roll. What I would've like to have seen was Oregon get the worst team in the quarterfinals to work out whatever today was. Let them play Boise and punish Texas or Penn State for losing two games by giving them Ohio State. You gave the team that earned the top seed the toughest quarterfinal opponent. Texas and Penn State are still alive because they got home games vs a three loss ACC team and a two loss ACC squad with AAC level players. Then you gave them a G5 squad and a Big 12 squad with two losses and essentially the same talent level won 3 games the last two years and they were picked to finish last this year. Texas and Penn State would've been smoked today. Texas nearly lost to ASU and Boise missed two field goals that helped make the score look worse than it actually was. But Oregon would've beaten either of those teams worse than Texas or Penn State did. I don't know what will happen tomorrow night in New Orleans and the game is secondary to the tragedy that happened today. But Georgia got the second best team out of the first round winners as their prize for beating Texas twice. A champion has to be at the best, but there are rankings for a reason. Oregon got the best team in the country as it's reward for doing what nobody else did all year. Everybody else got two mulligans except Notre Dame who lost to a MAC team and plays a pretty soft schedule in comparison to Oregon. Oregon lost for the first time and doesn't get another game. That's a shame.

This isn't a message or an excuse for Oregon losing today. Ohio State looks like they're clicking and it came after they really only played one great game (for them). That game was in a loss vs Oregon btw. My problem isn't even with Ohio State not getting a bye. But that should be remedied as well, the Big 12 and ACC are by far two tiers below the SEC and B1G. My issue is the path Penn State and Texas were given over the two teams that beat them in Championship Saturday. Oregon and Georgia were rewarded for winning, but the next day when we saw Penn State get SMU at home and Boise the week after and Texas got Clemson at home and ASU the next week compared to Ohio State/Tennessee and Notre Dame/Indiana. Which looks tougher? I'm not saying Oregon would beat Ohio State if they met for a championship. But they did beat them this year and it was clear these two were the top two teams leading up to Ohio State losing to Michigan. Heck Tennessee was looked at as far better than Indiana, SMU, Boise, ASU or Clemson. So either way the top seed gets a far tougher matchup than Penn State or Texas. I would like to see Oregon get Boise or ASU. Give Texas or Penn State the game vs Ohio State. The playoff committee needs to fix the format, not the teams. That's the conversation we need to push. It's absolutely mind boggling that we got Penn State not having to play a P4 roster two games into their playoff journey. SMU still has an AAC level roster tbh. End of rant.

I can't see this game as a two score win for either team. That favors Oregon in the two fields I see them with advantages. Special teams and head coach. If this game does become close I really believe Ryan Day will tell Chip Kelly to go conservative which will result in Ohio State taking away their own best weapons. He did it against Michigan and two years ago when they blew that Peach Bowl against Georgia. If Will Howard gets hot early and their secondary allows aggressive pressure fronts I fear Ohio State could put up a big enough lead that even Ryan Day couldn't blow. I don't see Lanning allowing that though. He won't have Gabriel in empty set formations like Heupel did with a freshman QB on the road.

As an outsider to the Ducks fan base I've grown to appreciate the welcoming nature on this board. I've noticed the mood go from excited to anxious the last few days. I understand why, but I do wonder how the feeling will be post Rose Bowl. Let's say Oregon wins. Is the feeling relief or a subdued sense of euphoria? Are you just looking forward to the next one and getting ready for a team like Texas or is there a sense that you just knocked out your toughest hurdle and feel like the biggest roadblock is gone? Now worst case scenario ,Oregon loses. Do you feel like the season is a success or do you need time away from it to answer that question because your ultimate goal wasn't completed? Looking at your season I would say it's obviously successful and Lanning proved he's one of the best coaches in the game. Losing to Ohio State doesn't tarnish this season. Winning the second toughest and most historic conference in year one while beating the three blue bloods is historic. But that just makes you expect and crave more. I'll say this one last time. This shouldn't be a quarterfinal game. You guys should be playing Boise or Arizona State. Georgia got the short end as well imo. Penn State and Texas lost on championship Saturday, even on selection Sunday everybody saw they got the easier draws. This needs to be fixed. It's not hard to do either. The NFL showed how to do it for years when the AFC and NFC had the two bye per conference system.

1.) The media. Just about everybody crowned Ohio State before a game was played. They can still claim they knew. 2.) The talent. Everybody talked up the 20 million dollar payroll. Had Oregon been crowing about their reported 23 million dollar roster things may be different. 3.) Recency bias. Ohio State thrashed an SEC squad. Oregon hasn't played in nearly a month. 4.) The rematch. Many believe Ohio State *would've won the first matchup in Eugene if Lanning hadn't exploited a loophole. It's also extremely difficult to beat a good team multiple times. This game isn't a home game for Oregon, that's a 3 point loss to their odds in Vegas. * I dislike this notion because what ifs and should've should never be taken as analysis points. 5.) The brand. Certain programs are just seen as perennial favorites. Oregon is a great program but they aren't established like "The" Ohio State. Oregon is making their first playoff game in a decade and seeking their first ever National Title. Ohio State has made six of these things and has multiple National Titles.

Getting your first title is a big achievement. To do it you would have to 16 games and beat five straight championship caliber opponents in a row. The first team to do any of that. I don't think we're going to be seeing many undefeated squads going forward.

Bad news is this will be the toughest opponent in the playoff. Good news is this is the toughest opponent you'll see in the playoff and you know you can beat them. Get past them and it's likely Texas with a hobbled QB in Ewers that let Cade Klubnik look like Tom Brady. Then it's Penn State, a less talented team than either Texas or Ohio State and a team you were up two scores on just about the whole BTCG. Or Georgia with a backup QB.
