  1. We have faced one very good team this year and failed the test. In that game, our QB looked like a first year starter. Unfortunately, we will not play another national championship contender the rest of the regular season (UW or USC could make the playoffs, if they win the rest of their games but they have too many holes to be serious challengers this year) so we won’t see how we measure up until the post season. I’m just not sure how our offense performs against an Ohio State, Texas, Miami defense, if we couldn’t handle what Indiana threw at us at home. Is Oregon’s defense good enough to win those games, if the offense is only able to score 10-14 points? Hopefully, the team continues to improve each week and Dante completes against our starting defense in practice and they throw everything at him. The Indiana loss seems to have lit a fire under the team’s a#% so I don’t believe that motivation will be an issue.
  2. I wonder if Penn State’s numbers include all of the state’s campuses, not just the flagship in University Park. It didn’t feel like that much bigger of a campus to me compared to a UCLA or a Washington.
  3. The B1G is no better than the PAC-12 was. In fact, the PAC-12 was probably deeper. You just have inflated rankings due to the media bias. Most years, the PAC-12 had a couple of really strong teams (Washington and Oregon the final season, Stanford and Oregon during the Chip Kelly years) and anyone in the conference could beat you, if you didn’t show up, especially on the road. USC has been down for a long time (and that didn’t help the image of the PAC-12) but under Coach Carroll they were the best program in college football. Ohio State is as good as any program in the nation right now (I’m not sold on Indiana and we’ll see how good our Ducks are). Is anyone worried about losing to Rutgers, Maryland, Northwestern, etc al. Heck some teams can’t even score an offensive touchdown. It’s funny watching some of the top teams from new conferences going into the State of Arizona and losing. That Stanford can beat you, if you don’t bring it.
  4. And they did it earning a partial media share and a fraction of the budget as an Ohio State, Texas, et al!
  5. The benefits goes way beyond financial though. It’s the respect/prestige of the conference. It’s the visibility. It’s ability to attract and retain players and coaches. It’s the seat at the “grown up” table. My biggest fear, before Oregon joined the B1G, was not being at the table and potentially being left behind. I still believe eventually there will be 2 super conferences and they will control everything about college football from the playoff format, rules, etc. If you are not a part of those conferences, you will get the scraps. We are starting to see that with the B1G/SEC discussions. Anyone think that the ACC will survive past the expiration of their media rights deal? Hopefully the two super conferences also look at the existing members became there are a couple of programs who don’t belong based solely on merit. I do miss the traditional rivalries of the PAC-8/10 and the regional nature of the conference but, unfortunately, that is in the past and you have to look towards the future.
  6. LOL. Looks like someone reads FishDuck’s forum.
  7. Oregon’s game against Wisconsin will be at 4:00 p.m. PT and will air on FS1. https://goducks.com/sports/football
  8. Surprised that Nike didn’t try something crazy with the unis for the tie-dye game.
  9. I haven’t seen this before anywhere. Usually there is a solid backup pecking order but each week the #2 QB seems to change this year at Oregon. Perhaps Brock Thomas beat the other QBs out? Maybe we see someone else get the second string reps next week?
  10. I was surprised with how the Ducks completely put it on Rutgers in the first half. They were pissed off and took it out on the Scarlet Knights. At least we know this team will not roll over and die like Penn State did. Credit to the players from putting the Indiana game behind them and traveling all the way across the country to kick some a#%. Keep improving week after week so you are peaking at the end of the year.
  11. Vandy beat LSU for the first time since 1990.
  12. First and goal Vandy. LSU is out of timeouts. Time for the victory formation (unless they want to pull the Mario).
  13. Vandy’s RB just popped a 40 yard run. They have the ball at LSU’s 15 yard line with 2:33 remaining.
  14. Vandy’s defense forces a 3 and out. Three minutes remaining.
  15. LSU is getting the ball back down by 7 with ~5 minutes remaining.
  16. I’m not as sold as you are on Indiana. Time will tell, but Oregon was either out coached/played in the game or is overrated, IMO. Indiana does not have the resources or draw that some of the top football programs do. Cig could do much more at Penn State, Florida, et al (i.e., the ceiling is higher but so is the pressure to win). Even Oregon has had trouble recruiting elite high school offensive lineman under Coach Lanning and that is a requirement to win a national championship. As I mentioned, I hope he stays at Indiana but understand why he would leave, if his goal is to win a championship. He is up there in age, so time is not on his side.
  17. Nah. I drove by some construction workers the other day on the side of the road, who were wearing them…
  18. That’s like Joey Harrington at Oregon (without the picks). People remember him as “captain comeback” but forgot how mediocre he usually played until the second half/4th quarter (even he has admitted as such). There were obviously some exemptions like the Fiesta Bowl against Colorado.
  19. I don’t know what motivates Coach Cignetti. Perhaps he wants a chance to win a national championship and believes that another program will give him an opportunity to accomplish that goal? Perhaps he and/or his family doesn’t enjoy living in Indiana and would prefer somewhere else (sunny Southern California, middle of nowhere Pennsylvania)? I hope he stays because I enjoy the parity in college football but he will ultimately have to decide what is most important to him and his family. His $15M buyout will not stop programs from pursuing him.
  20. Cignetti’s reported buyout is $15M. Is that really going to scare away any of the potential top programs, particularly one who just paid their head coach ~$50M to leave? CFB-HQ On SICurt Cignetti's new buyout won't scare off potential suitorsIndiana head football coach Curt Cignetti has his signature on a brand new contract that will guarantee him at least $100 million from Indiana University should
  21. I don’t understand why the AD doesn’t try to coordinate the fan’s color with the team’s uniforms. Fans are being asked to wear green again (just like the Penn State game) but the uniforms are white, black and silver). Doesn’t make sense to me. “Oregon's uniform combination is based on the "Warp Speed" all white (with black and silver details) jersey from the "Generation O" line released in 2024.”
  22. I love the stormtroopers! They should be reserved for our biggest away game every year, IMO. Since it didn’t make sense to wear them for the Penn State whiteout, I would have kept them for the Fusky game.
  23. Good points. Preseason, I would have predicted that Oregon would be 5-1 right now with a loss to Penn State. Unfortunately, some teams are looking better than I expected and it’s never easy to win road games against good teams so we could have a few more loses on the remaining schedule, if Oregon doesn’t continue to improve. We’ll have to see how things shake out but I’m not as confident in our odds to make the playoffs as I was a week ago. Oregon’s margin of error just shrunk considerably.
  24. Couldn’t you make the case that the UCLA situation and experience was so bad that it should count as a negative? I don’t know Dante but it appears that UCLA destroyed his confidence. Our coaches seem to have been trying to build up his confidence and his emotions poured out after the Penn State victory. Unfortunately, Dante took a step back on Saturday (he didn’t have much help from the coaching staff or players). Hope everyone can learn from this and keep getting better throughout the season.
  25. IMHO, Davison is the best all around running back and should get the majority of carries (~20 per game). Bring in Whittington and Hill as change of pace backs but I want Davison grinding down the defense all game long.
