Atticus Sappington wins Ducks Wire Player of the Game vs. Iowa Hawkeyes The Oregon Ducks came into Saturday’s game against the Iowa Hawkeyes facing a major uphill battle. They were on the road, decimated by injuries to their offense and playing through some tough weather conditions. Head coach Dan Lanning was hoping that this game could be a springboard to getting his team back to their dominant ways, but it didn’t quite work out that way. The contest turned out to be a low-scoring, defensive slugfest, where both offenses struggled and felt like they could win or lose the game on any given play. It’s normally tough to choose a standout player in such an off game, but that wasn’t the case today. In a rare turn of events, kicker Atticus Sappington will take home the Ducks Wire Player of the Game after connecting on a game-winning 39-yard field goal with just three seconds left in the game.

Oregon boosts College Football Playoff case with last-second defeat of Iowa It was far from the flashy, dominant win we’ve grown accustomed to seeing Oregon pull off. But even though the Ducks didn’t pummel the Hawkeyes to death, it’s just as impressive of a win. Oregon was without leading receiver Dakorien Moore and tight end Kenyon Sadiq was hobbled. Gary Bryant Jr., another important receiver, left early in the contest. The pressure was on for Dante Moore and company to execute against one of the best passing defenses in the country. Instead, the Ducks flexed their muscles and reminded the committee its defense is up there with one of the best. “I guess that’s what they call Big Ten football,” Lanning said. “What an unbelievable game.”

CBS writer thinks Ducks are built to solve Iowa, Kinnick StadiumSwimming contrary to this flash flood of national negativity about the Ducks ("Who have they beaten?" "What's their best win?" "That November schedule is so tough.") is CBS writer Cody Nagel, who writes, "The Ducks have repeatedly shown they can handle hostile environments, giving them a blueprint to silence the Kinnick crowd while putting pressure on Iowa's weaknesses." Every game is different, and how this one unfolds is a script not yet written. That's the beauty of sports. "The most pivotal thing is us being able to win at the point of attack, dominate every play in and out and being tone setters," Ducks offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon said. The Ducks understand the assignment. They know the weather will be cold, the stadium will be loud, and the locker room is pink. If they're able to shut all that out as they have before, they have more talent, more speed, and an offense with better balance and more weapons.
