I can't access the article because it's behind a pay wall but Hampton's name has surfaced
-
Word is he is not well liked at all by coaching industry peers -FWIW

Wow! Penn State DC Tom Allen to Clemson. Minnesota DC Corey Heatherman to Miami. Ohio State DC Jim Knowles to Penn State. I wonder how Tpm Allen feels leaving PSU for more $ and Knowles getting $3M?
Knowles will have plenty of talent on the D-side of the ball at Penn State.
Interesting that Ohio State came with large to keep draft-eligible juniors on board and bring in key additions but did not step up to match the PCU offer.
Meanwhile, TOSH?
Hmmm- before Tosh I would wonder about Chris Hampton.

Other credible sources (Thamel and Bryan Fischer) reporting he is gone.

Has there been anything official on Whittington and Savage?

Supposedly Knowles is locked in BUT there are rumors Chip is interested in the OC job at Tampa Bay.
Remember Chips first daliances with the NFL was with Tampa Bay
-
Honest question, who cares?

Isn't there a lunatic fringe at almost any, if not all, schools, just sitting, biding their time, waiting to call for a coach's head?
Yes and a number of them were at the Rose Bowl clad in green and yellow.
The pitchfork crowd was present and accounted for unfortunately in Jan. 1

Fair and reasonable assessment.
The upside is the issue with longer DBs is being addressed. Hopefully the guys waiting in the wings are ready to go and having Jalil Florence back next year should help.
Bellotti’s point about Dan having the framework in place is a good one.

I didn't want Chip to come back. No doubt he was incredibly successful, but that was a time, circumstances that would not be repeated. What would be repeated for sure would have been Chip's complete disdain for recruiting. Osu2 recruits well enough that he doesn't have to do involve himself; that was a line that made him feel good.
That was a line for sure that made him
feel good but does not diminish his abysmal performance against Michigan.

Seems like Chip was pretty quiet going 0-5 against Oregon at UCLA and as OC at tOSU.
There also were some pretty credible rumors Oregon requested and received permission to talk to Chip about returning to Oregon in December of 2021 before instead shifting gears and hiring Dan Lanning.
Maybe that isn't it, but something seems to stinging Chip to be throwing that out that comment two weeks after the Rose Bowl at a National Championship press conference. Chip, it's Notre Dame you are playing Monday.
Adding a thought here about the rumors that were rife in December of 2021 about Chip returning, they were out their for sure but the bigger issue is MANY donors (not just the big ones) still connect Chip with the Willy Lyles episode and I honestly think there was way too much baggage with Chip. Not only was there the Lyles thing but there were other big team discipline problems and the fact that inside the HDC Chip was viewed as extremely difficult to work with.

Chip was asked by the media what was the team’s motivation prior to the Rose Bowl. This was his response. Makes perfect sense to me that a coach/team would use this line.
Don’t disagree in theory but this situation is clearly different.
Also can’t forget that Carlos Locklyn is part of the coaching staff for tOSU. Something clearly happened with him at UO cause he left big mad. I know he asked for a significant pay increase at one point.
Also , and not to hijack this thread but it was interesting that none of the RBs that he recruited to Oregon left with him. Not saying they didn’t like him but no one followed him.

^^^^this!
I was kind of shocked when I read that quote. Chip, by and large has always been gracious about his time at Oregon and even after Oregon defeated UCLA he was publicly gracious. No ideas what he said behind closed doors but he apparently is now assuming the Ryan Day act of being rude. Chip in the past was always above making comments like this.
Actually makes him look very small minded.

Yes, there seems to be something in play here on both sides.

Have heard this RUMOR too. His leadership helps too if he does in fact come back.

I think this is a bigger symptom of fans buying into the media hype of their conference and team.
Texas is in the Almighty SEC, none shall stand!
I loved that the Ducks were #1 and certainly played like it some weekends. But I also have been around college football long enough to know that any team can be beaten any week.
What happens next year if they lose in the CFP again with Arch Manning? Imagine the cacophony then!!
But.isnt Arch the savior in waiting?????

Yes

Only to be made the sacrificial lamb when Miami tanks next year. In.typucal Mario fashion it will be because the defense lacked physicality the LOS.
Count on it.

To further fan the flames- on Jan 1 Dam Nation (their collective) sent out an email asking for donations in the amount of $41.21. They indicated this amount was created by a random number generator.
I totally had to contain myself to not reply to the tweet that maybe they could also ask for donations in the amounts of $49.14 (2024 score) and $31.07 (2023 score).
Another possible snarky remark could have been that $41.21 must be an expectation of what the average beaver fan could afford.
Then again after a 5-7 season and sitting on the sofa during bowl season maybe they could dig around said sofa and come up with a few pennies.
They also have the opportunity to save some pennies by going down to the local thrift store to shop for J Smith and D Martinez gear.

He goes by Ryan Pellum but that appears to not be his real last name. Sort of odd???

Malik Benson fortifies the receiving corp too.

Over at a pay site....it was reported that Jaron Sag. took a long look at Dante Moore in practice, and knew he could not beat out Moore and start as a freshman--which was his goal to do somewhere.
Can't fault him for wanting to play right away, and is another indirect confirmation of the talents of QB Moore...
Absolutely agree with this Charles. BUT I will say his comment about not feeling he was a priority made him sound like a prima donna.
I think its best for him and Oregon that he moved on.

Very good news.
Roster management has been A+ this year.

What transpired here is a great example of Mario’s inability to build and cultivate team culture.
He talked a ‘big game ‘ when he was at Oregon about culture and family yet it was only talk. Guys on the team at that time said there was relatively little culture and no feeling of family. One player who played for both MC and Dan shared that Mario never had team functions at his home.
Dan has a totally different approach. Not only does he regularly have the team to his home, he stresses that his door is open anytime for a player to come over and hang out. Many do go to his home on a regular basis. This says something IMO.

Knowles is Moving to Penn State, Becomes Highest Paid Coordinator
in Our Beloved Ducks

And if Chip jumps to the NFL Day might promote Hartline since he seems well respected and has surfaced as an HC candidate a few times.
If Day was not willing to.fire Johnson to placate Knowles then you have to wonder if Day promotes him to DC.
Just random thoughts, nothing else.
