  1. They are so exhausting.

Along time ago in my career I learned an old adage, be careful what you wish for.

They were so smug when Riley was hired and could not wait to laugh, berate, mock etc. Oregon for going after an unproven defensive coordinator.  They called Lanning a 'leftover'  and proof Uncle Phil's money could not buy the shiniest thing because they got the biggest fish in the college football coaching pond at that time.  They even went so far as to say Oklahoma was right to  pass on DL after Riley left and Venables got the job.

So just wondering how that's all working out for them.

Another thing I learned in my career, sometimes it's okay to keep your mouth shut and just let things play out because karma is a b*&%$.

  2. Not to totally digress from the topic at hand but a caller on Feinbaum's show yesterday said that no matter what it takes, the Alabama donors need to buy out Dan Lanning's contract and the caller wanted him in Tuscaloosa by Tuesday night.

Anyone monitoring the Eugene to Tuscaloosa private flights???????

  3. I know we have some legal eagles here- can someone explain this: break the spirit of the law (rule)

Is this beaverese for 'I am so darn envious I just can't stand it' or is it 'Sheesh would Bray even think of this'??????

Coming perfectly clean here, but I am sure I have probably broken the spirit of the law on occasion.

Not to totally digress here BUT the OS poster must have forgotten this and how Mr Barnes was so fearful that he quickly swept this under the rug before Damian bailed for Miami:

Oregon State said that running back Damien Martinez will not play in the team's upcoming bowl game after he was stopped for running a red light, then charged with DUI, reckless driving and...

Dan knew this guy from his Georgia days and there was a good reason he passed.

Maybe GeorgiaDawg has some insights but there were rumors he was a 'me guy' and a 'troublemaker'.   This is not my assessment but what was said on social media by some with credentials.

Meant Nevada Dawg (apologies Nevada Dawg, no disrespect intended).  You confirmed what I heard both publicly and privately.

  5. While this wasn't a Canzano article, Oram is the JC in training at the O.  I even think he might be an OS grad.

He, like JC just feels so gosh darn bad for the beavers.   'Everybody was mean to them'.   'The teacher picked on them'.  'The other schools did it first'.   Blah, blah blah.

BTW- who did JC pick to win the CW?   I used to subscribe to his drivel and then realized it was beyond drivel so I canceled.  That guy is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

On a side note, I was told by a very good source when Dan first arrived and did his first interview with JC he had him all figured out.  Same with Crepea.

    You know,

When I grew up, coaches yelled at us constantly.  Hated it some of the time, but I mostly didn't mind.  If you screw up as bad as Kris Hudson did, I would get in your face like that.

It was known at the time the team was clowning around too much.  Tons of dropped balls, unforced errors and inexcusable penalties.  We even talked about it.  Then Kris Hudson basically trashed a key first down conversion.  Yeah, I would have ripped him one too. In fact, I didn't say it at the time, but my first thought was 'it's about time".

Abuse is never acceptable.  I'll tell you this, Kirby Smart and Nick Saban routinely lashed their players.  Why do you think they have , what ten Nattys between them?

Because they don't let kids run the show.  Remember when Neon 'shallow' trolled Saban for quiting because of NIL?  Guess who will never see a playoff game in his career?

I'm pretty sure there's a reason Gen z and the millennials will never rise to the level of greatness Boomers have achieved - they didn't get their butts chewed out enough.

If you don't force kids to take things seriously , they won't.  Oh, I'm pretty sure Saban would have ripped Hudson for that dumb display.

Don't disagree with you Mike about letting players know when they screwup and Dan does.   He just does it privately.

I personally am not a fan of 'public beratings'.  Yes, what Hutson did was 100% stupid no doubt.  My opinion is that you handle it privately.  You tell him it's wrong and maybe even sit him for the rest of the game.

All water under the bridge now for sure but a good debate.

I can tell you that several of the big donors were very unhappy with MC for that tirade at the time.

  7. I can assure you that what you see in the videos is ALWAYS approved by Dan before it sees the light of day.   He has full veto authority and you might recall last year after the Colorado 'clicks' thing Dan commented that he should have never let the ABC cameras in the room for that piece.

So the net is (and its been said here) Dan is 1000% praise publicly, correct  privately and I am glad he is that way.   I used to HATE when Mario threw guys under the bus and he did it a lot and no need to even talk about what he did to Kris Hutson on national TV.  But I digress.....

The net is Dan does have times when he is 'very firm and direct'.   I had a chance to observe practice and I can assure you Dan is firm and direct when necessary.

Fantastic feedback Mike. I agree with you, although I am still sold on this offense gradually improving over the season.  That can happen as they figure out the items you noted, and in the meantime, they are going to have to scratch, kick and claw their way to win a game.

The jolt from special teams can certainly give them confidence, and even more production from that phase.  I felt that our punter had a poor game, especially in the first half.  Not the 48 yard net punts of last year!

The Three Major Surprises of This Team:

--The deterioration of the offensive line was expected, meaning I thought there would be a little drop-off, but not off a cliff like this.

--Dillon Gabriel is not playing at the level we thought, with a lack of audibles and his height issue is much worse than I realized.

--With all the portal talent on the defense....they should be playing better and have not jelled.  (Great stuff Mike, about the DBs in coverage!)

With that, I am still a hopelessly devoted Duck, who believes it is all going to work out.

Sticking your head in the sand?

I'm with you Charles and I will say I have faith in Dan to get this worked out.   It has to be consuming him to the point of insanity.

  9. Very interesting take Mike.   Well thought out and very well presented.

I do think Dan and Terry are doing everything possible to figure out the O line thing.  Let's be honest it's driving them beyond crazy, I'm sure way more than we know or can even think about.  I know some have said 'well, they should have been prepared for this, injuries happen'.  Yes, they do and you have to play the hand your dealt but sometimes your options are more limited and I think that is the case here.

I think (read hope) having Mike Cavanaugh as a mentor to Terry is helping.   Of course Mike is not a magician and can fix Iuli and Bedford's injuries but hopefully the combination they had in the 2nd half of the game can work till they get Iuli and Bedford back.

  10. All of those games are great examples for sure and certainly worthy of all the great commentary here.

One thing that always stuck out to me after the Georgia game was that afterwards Dan owned it.  He simply stated they lost to a much better team.   No excuses, no blame just took the loss and learned from it.   That moment to me said a lot about Dan.  I hope he continues to conduct himself in that manner.

We never know what gets said behind closed doors and that's okay too but perception matters and Dan seems keenly aware of that.

  11. I don't get too worked up over this.   It seems to be norm in college football.

Saban was the master of coach speak and Kirby is the same way so it's easy to see how Dan learned from them.

I think fans in general get it and understand why coaches do it.
