THURSDAY is the Next Step of a Raucous Recruiting Run!

Recommended Posts

We are hoping that Edge-Rusher, Elijah Rushing commits to the Ducks on Thursday, as he is one of nation’s best--and would be an huge victory for this recruiting class if he announces his verbal to Oregon.

Remember, Oregon has a massive stretch of recruiting announcements in the first two weeks of July that is a game-changer!

Saturday, July 1 at 2:30 PST: Offensive Tackle, Jac’Qawn McRoy 6'8" 365 Rivals 3-Star  (Verballed!)
Monday, July 3 at 11:30 PST: Running Back, Da’Jaun Riggs Rivals 3-Star
Thursday, July 6 at 2:00 PST: Edge Rusher, Elijah Rushing, Rivals 4-Star

Friday, July 7 at TBD, Linebacker, Dylan Williams, Rivals 4-Star

Isn't it wonderful that the Huskies have moved up to No. 43 in the recruiting rankings?

So, Jac’Qawn McRoy is ranked as the No. 3 Offensive Tackle in the nation by 247 Sports?

And yet No. 50 at Rivals?  Whew!  I'm going with the coaches on this one...

I listened to the latest Duck Territory podcast yesterday and they were talking about these 4 recruits as all being 4 and 5 stars on 247?   Prehm discussed how landing all 4 was possible, 3 was highly likely.   And if so that Oregon's class would flirt with Top 5 in the country status.

Da’Jaun Riggs, a Rivals 3-Star is up for his verbal today at about 11:30 AM PST, and this is a classic example of our coaches getting excited about a player when the rating services are meh about him.  Coach Locklyn wants this guy, and considering the talent he has recruited to the running back room?  I think we should pay heed to him.

Remember that Noah Whittington was a 2-Star receiver originally at Western Kentucky when Locklyn brought him in there.  He can evaluate talent...

Hats off to DL and his staff who are bringing lots of talent to Oregon.

Below is a ranking of Pac-12 recruiting over the recent years. Utah stands out as doing the most with the least while SC's recruiting success has not translated to the field of play. Interesting to see how many of the top-drawer recruits did not pan out at a given school and how many did not finish their college career at the original school to which

they committed.

When it comes to recruiting in the Pac-12, USC has dominated the past 15 years. The race for second place is incredibly tight, though.

It seems that somehow Elijah Rushing is increasingly likely to commit to Arizona...

Yep, that seems to be conventional wisdom.  Apparently the opportunity to play with his brother and UA upping the ante on an NIL deal are playing a major role.

Seems to be short-sighted given that Arizona will struggle to get into a lower tier bowl at best and Oregon would give him the best development opportunities (and display them on bigger stages).

Well good luck to him, after a season or two of mediocre team play he will probably have 2nd thoughts.

Transfer portal era takes minor sting out of 5-star recruit runner-up finishes

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are not unfamiliar with this feeling, unfortunately.

Over the past 8-12 months, there have been a number of times where a highly-rated 5-star prospect flirted with the idea of committing to Oregon, and ended up choosing to go elsewhere.

That’s what happened on Thursday afternoon when 5-star EDGE Elijah Rushing — the No. 8 player in the 2024 class — announced that he would commit to the hometown Arizona Wildcats, rather than the Oregon Ducks.

For months, Rushing was thought to be a virtual lock to join Lanning and come to Eugene, but over the past 48 hours, something flipped, and he ended up staying close to home.

What happened? Who knows, ultimately? Does it matter? Not really.

The end result is the same: Oregon is left sitting as a silver medalist, rather than a gold medalist.

However, in today’s era of college football, just because you missed out on a player once doesn’t mean that an opportunity to recruit him and sign him won’t present itself again.

Arizona seems like they are dumping all their NIL on Rushing.

Division Street isn't going to over pay or get into a bidding war. Especially not in July.

Doesn't mean recruiting is over just yet. It's not even over after they've signed with the portal these days.

We may just have to wait and see here to see if Lanning can win him over by signing day.

Good luck to the kid. Can't really blame him. Rushing would have been a great addition.

Ducks need an elite pass rusher. DL will need to double down on his efforts there. Not over till the inks dry but I think Ducks and Lanning move on.

Ducks are stacked in the trenches, both sides of the ball, for 23'. A ton of movement will take place between now and 24'.

Again, good luck young man

I did not watch his commitment but a friend of mine did and said Rushing did not look super happy during the announcement.  Said he sort of had a nondescript expression but that both parents looked very happy.  My friends 'arm chair' opinion was that Mom and Dad might have tipped the scales by playing the closer to home card.

Just an observation.   No special insights.

The story is that Rushing is getting one million per year for his services from Arizona.

The Ducks appear set at DE for the next year or two anyway.

Not a big deal.

I'd be much more concerned if Baker goes any place else......doubt he will.

I'd also be more interested in a nose tackle type that eats centers for dinner.
