Log Haulin No. 2 Share Posted October 6, 2023 Great topic. It takes a special kind if person to get a bunch of big time guys to buy into the idea of be a part "of" as apposed to being the "of". In a world where the transfer portal and NIL are a major factor, getting these players to set aside ego and become a player amongst players can't be an easy thing to accomplish. I pull hard grade with a Cummins ISX at 105,500 lbs. It does a great job when all the parts operate correctly within the system. All equally important to the end goal. When we watch the Ducks play, when they are operating at a high level together, its one of the most beautiful things to watch. Haywarduck Moderator No. 3 Share Posted October 6, 2023 As a critic, skeptic of Mr. Martin, I too am impressed. After last season where the DB's looked like fools too many times the overhaul is astounding. We had a first round draft choice as a DB, but still couldn't slow down a passing attack. It is possible to create a healthy competition between elite talent, but oh what a juggling match that is. With the egos and chemistry within a team so critical I give huge kudos to the players for buying in, and Mr. Martin for keeping all the parts in play. I also want to give Demtrice Martin and Tony Tuioti kudos for raising some amazing young men. I was also skeptical of recruiting two coaches kids on to the team. Both players seem like gamers, and the type of foundational players a team needs. This isn't always the way with a coaches son. Often if you want to create a chemistry problem, just recruit a coaches kid. Ducko No. 4 Share Posted October 6, 2023 Another great read Charles. After the last two games I am very optimistic and becoming a believer in Oregon D. Husky QB Penix is huge threat as we all know and loves the short quick passes. From what I have seen those passes have the most successful against Oregon but our tackling proficiency is much improved which locked down both Colorado and Stanford for much of the game.. Washington’s performance last week against Arizona revealed a defensive scheme that limited Penix success and it also showed that the Husky Defense can be exploited. I hope that Lupoi attacks Penix like the did Sanders for Colorado. But we all know that Washington has a strong O line. I believe that Oregon could have and should beat the Huskies last year. Going for it on 4 down and failing along with a poor defense cost Oregon the win. But Lanning takes risk most other coaches would never take. It’s who he is. Talent, with depth, playing at a high level has been lacking on the D side of the ball at Oregon for most seasons...... Injuries to key starters has usually meant a serious drop off in performamce. The backups, in most cases were gamers but not as talented, gifted or skilled. If overloading talent at skill positions to create competition is what the elite SEC schools do, well I hope DL keeps it going. IMHO, the Ducks have yet to be tested by a complete or near complete team. DL and staff built game plans to exploit the opponents weakness. The players, not used to being on the sidelines, come in hungry and perform at a high competetive level. Some bring a fierceness and violence to their play. Because of this quality depth, the Ducks get stronger as the game progresses. The next 3 opponents are not complete teams, either. However, the talent level they bring is Top 20. And 2 of these games are on the road and mosy likely be decided late in yhe 4th quarter..... Penix will be the 2nd QB off the board, the Cougar starting 22 are a talented handful and the Utes with Rising, at RES will be better balanced. A talented, 2 deep elite SEC team that makes the CFP would win all 3 games. If you want to be elite then the D needs all their parts to operate smoothly and pull that 105,500 pounds up the grade. This is a 3 game stretch that these talented players have dreamt about all their lives.... Charles fantasy of 12-0 is about to face its roughest stretch. It still fascinates me, that we lose two secondary starters before and during the game at Stanford, (Bryan Addison and Khyree Jackson) and we did not have a bit of drop-off. That would have been impossible for nearly every other Oregon team in the past. Kudos to Coach Lanning and his staff. All coaches talk about their players supporting each other, and how their room celebrates each other. Yet we're seeing game proof that the Ducks are for real. The "Family" culture is real also. The Duck brotherhood is obvious to recruits when they visit. I believe these intangible concepts are more important than all the glitter of facilities, uniforms, and money. Something special is happening at Oregon. Go Ducks! What a difference it is to see a team assembled based on skills required for achieving results as opposed to simple star collecting. Both offensive and defensive units are becoming much better than the individuals playing the positions. Both groups are putting up impressive numbers nationally and getting impressive results. Teams are being put away by halftime and not lingering around into the fourth quarter anymore. Leading Stoney Brook 17-7 at the half is finally in the fading past. David Marsh No. 10 Share Posted October 6, 2023 We see this mostly across the board as well. Look at the runningback room. Any other program Irving, Whittington (now injured) and James would not only be starters but the featured backs. Instead they all have to share. At receiver it looks like Hutson is in the second string at this point. I saw him on the field with Thompson I believe. Though I do anticipate Hutson may transfer as he is now down the depth chart but we'll see. Offensive line will be pretty deep once we get some more transfers back to full power as well. Strother is practicing again and did play some reps against Stanford. Also... on the defensive line Burch is on the bench a whole lot more than I think anyone anticipated.
