Steven A Moderator No. 3 Share Posted August 14 I guess that might mean: 1) That the DBs weren't looking to the sidelines or their wrist bands when the play started. 2) Connor Stalions is now one of their defensive analysts. Remember, Larry was the smart Stooge. 2
SoGaDawg No. 4 Share Posted August 14 Perhaps he is comparing them to last season’s USCw defense. They really wouldn’t need to play very well to be a vast improvement. They gave up a ton of points last season, absolutely terrible. Truthfully though, they should be much improved. Lynn should have them playing much better in time.
DanLduck No. 5 Share Posted August 14 Well, they did get a decent DC finally. What else would you expect him to say? And they are currently undefeated... 1

fred flintstone No. 10 Share Posted August 15 USC will learn all about its defense when it plays LSU in their first game. LSU has one of the best offenses in football this year. I suspect LSU will hang 40 plus on them.
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 11 Share Posted August 15 The AP voters went 8-5? Riiiiiiiight. College football polls reflect groupthink on USC and everyone else TROJANSWIRE.USATODAY.COM College football polls, in this 2024 preseason, have been defined by lazy voters engaging in groupthink. No original analysis is evident. Come On Man! It's not where you start but where you finish which Troy should have learned in 2023 when it started 6-0. Beat LSU and the voters will notice. It's not a Conspiracy, it's Groupthink. HMMMMMM?
Solar No. 12 Share Posted August 15 I believe it. Look, it took a few years for Riley to destroy Grinch, I expect the same for the new DC. We will see immediate significant improvement from the WOAT defense. Whether it last or not is what I'll wait to see.
Duckley Palace No. 13 Share Posted August 15 (edited) Last year it was all those transfer guys and the returning Heisman QB. This year it's a new coach and a QB that is some kind of savant that will utilize the entire Lincoln Riley repotoire of plays. Since 2007 USC has been one of the most underachieving programs in all of CFB. They didn't make one BCS Title Game( remember that game was first implemented for the 2006 season). They didn't make one four team playoffs. They've swiped two coaches from P4 big name programs, yet done zip. Oregon meanwhile has been targeted three times since 2007 to go under. Chip Kelly going to the Eagles. Mr. Seminole leaving after one year, and Super Mario going cross country to be the latest guy to bring back the "U". Maybe it's something in the water? Let's come back to this topic in November. Edited August 15 by Duckley Palace

USC should be getting more of the blame for the demise of the PAC, but instead they failed up. Texas did the same with the Big 12. Except USC says they were too generous because they allowed the PAC to evenly distribute money to programs like Washington State and Oregon. Texas forced everyone in the Big 12 to accept the Longhorn Network which caused Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M, and Missouri to look for new homes. If there is any program that has done less with more than Texas, I can't name them. USC was the lynchpin of the PAC. But I think most of the failure falls upon the "leadership" of Larry Scott. Ole George became the steward of a decrepit boat, he helped poke a few holes to finish it. But to me Larry Scott and the school presidents that looked down at Oklahoma because of their academics or cow patty locale deserve much of the blame. The B1G and SEC have thrived because they don't allow anybody to be bigger than the conference. South Carolina doesn't have less say than Florida or Georgia. Iowa doesn't get less consideration than Michigan or Ohio State. But the conference commissioners realize that those programs will defer as long as they are adequately fed. Big dogs gotta eat and there is plenty there, even if the little Chihuahua gets just as much. The B1G Network was launched in 2007. From day one it was better than the Longhorn Network or PAC 12 Network. One reason was because you could find it on just about any cable or satellite plan. Two is because it wasn't the Buckeye or Wolverine Network. Texas and USC failed their respective conferences in different ways. One was the ultimate power player that cared only about them self. The guy who took fifty shots a game, not even looking to pass to an open teammate . Then being oblivious as to why his team lost by fifty. Couldn't be his fault, now he needs to find a better team. The other was the grumbling "hero" who allowed the coach to mismanage the roster by allowing everybody to have a say, even when it was detrimental to the team. Then they just abandoned the team for a better ran one in the middle of the night. Essentially ensuring it's demise. The conference was managed by bozos and they should get most of the blame, no doubt. I agree with most of what you said, but I wasnt really considering Texas or thinking of the B12, which is still considered a power conference and legitimately exists. My main point was that USC frequently blamed the conference for their lack of on-field success, but never delivered as the only historical blue-blood. Perception of the conference would have been vastly different if USC regularly contended for and actually participated in the playoff. USC wanted to be the good guy by pretending they were team players. Texas didn't care if anybody saw them as the villain. But both exited messes they helped create by negotiating like thieves in the night. The fact that the Big 12 survived and the PAC didn't is the biggest reason I say the PAC has the worst leadership by far of any conference. The deal that the PAC turned down by ESPN was taken by the Big 12. Yet Oregon is seen as the traitors. Edited August 15 by Duckley Palace
