NJDuck Moderator No. 1 Share Posted August 21 Hmm...Interesting tidbit. Carroll's planning to teach and not coach, but that doesn't mean he's completely ruling out a return to the sidelines. MicroBurst61 No. 3 Share Posted August 21 A "lookin' over you shoulder" type of season coming up for Sir Lincoln Riley". He Really NEEDs, that opening season win against LSU. AIN'T going to get it!
Haywarduck Moderator No. 4 Share Posted August 21 A teaching job, really, at USC, really, doesn't want to coach again, really? Actions speak much louder than words. Riley could go undefeated, not likely, and he would still be a dead man walking!

The speed advantage that SC had over Louisville in the Holiday Bowl will show up against many B1G teams. Without the new D coaching crew and absent Grinch, SC D players made tackles in space vs, Louisville. USC opened the wallet for the new D coaches. SC has a Blue-Chip roster along with Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan. SC can lose to both LSU and Notre Dame and still be a threat to play in the B1G champ game. My betting group has money down on SC going Over 7.5. SC had a more difficult conference schedule in the Pac-12 last season than it will have in the B1G this season. SC gets Penn State, Rutgers, Wisconsin, and Nebraska in LA. The road games at Minnesota, Maryland, UW, and UCLA are winnable and at Michigan is not a certain loss. SC will have a decided roster advantage against all but Penn State and Michigan and the better QB with Moss. Schedule Tidbit. The Rutgers at SC game kicks off at 11 PM Eastern. As the beat writer for Rutgers noted - Last Call in Jersey and Happy Hour in LA.

JabbaNoBargain No. 7 Share Posted August 21 (edited) Pete is 72 currently and the college game has completely changed from 20 years ago. Feel free to go down a rabbit hole USC, I encourage it Edited August 21 by JabbaNoBargain
jrw Moderator No. 8 Share Posted August 21 "Pete, who?" I'm speaking without authorization for the youth of America, and maybe even for some of their parents. The Pete Carroll era at USC was from a dim, dark, distant past that not a lot of people under -say - 40 much remember anymore. And, at 72? No Way.

David Marsh No. 12 Share Posted August 22 He's still a good coach... but I seriously doubt he wants to recruit in this day and age... Especially now that everyone can pay players legally. 1

Duckley Palace No. 16 Share Posted August 26 There was some chatter about Miami hiring Butch Davis a few years ago, same with Florida with Steve Spurrier and Oregon with Chip Kelly. The truth is that the game has changed too much for guys of a certain age. It's much easier and less stressful at the NFL level. The Not For Long League. Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden, Barry Switzer, Lou Holtz, Bo, Woody, Bear, and all the old time legends wouldn't last ten years in this day and age. Nick Saban learned how to lengthen his career by hiring ex head coaches as advisors to lessen his load. Dabo Sweeney is already complaining about the portal and NIL. You need young hungry guys like Dan Lanning, Lincoln Riley and Ryan Day. You can only hope they will learn how to close the deal like Kirby Smart did after failing near the finish line for a few years before breaking through in 2021.
