Charles Fischer Administrator No. 2 Share Posted October 13 Great article Jordan, and after watching all the reaction by the talking heads on TV...I received the impression that the traditional powers-that-be at the B1G welcome Oregon's brand and all the eyeballs to the conference, but I also got the impression that we, "need to know our place." And it sure as heck is not at the-head-of-the-table! But come December...it just might be! 2 1 1 Mr. FishDuck
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 3 Share Posted October 13 Jordan, thanks for a terrific take on a fantastic game.Thank You, Sir! Now, hit the afterburners Puddles, move into the Stratosphere on 12/7, and take a PO nap before hosting the Rose Bowl. HappyToBeADuck No. 4 Share Posted October 13 Jordan thank you for your great article. By 11 pm est the BIG Nation fans know that the Oregon Ducks are a force to be reckoned with. Any SEC fans watching have a pretty good idea, too. As a Duck fan, this is a great game for the Ducks to build on to begin building a dynasty. Not to throw any shade on this great sports moment for OBD's but we have to win the first BIG title and that first Natty to even then win a second straight to have a chance to be a dynasty. And i belirve with DL and his staff that this is possible. This win placed the Ducks in the pole position and now the race begins. One lap (game) at a time. Purdue is the next lap.... Michigan and tOSU are the bullies of the BIG. I believe those 2 schools have won all the BIG ritles since 2016. OBD's just beat one of those bullies. Coming into this game, Ryan Day was 42-3 in conference games. The 3 losses came against Michigan. The Ducks must now beat every other BIG team including Michigan. And yes they can achieve that type of domination with continued improvement in all 3 phases of the game. Remember the angst and frustration of 7 sacks allowed in the first 2 games of rhe 2024 season? Well the O Line didnt allow a sack against the Buckeyes. That's inprovement.... Half way thru the season the Ducks are 6-0. Now let's enjoy this big time win and take Purdue seriously and get to 7-0...... GO DUCKS............ 2 1
Mike West No. 5 Share Posted October 13 Excellent article Jordan! Reminds me of the awesome Sports Illustrated articles of decades past . If this were a magazine, you could have written another 500-800 words just like that, and I swear, it would have flowed just as artistically. You asked why OBD won. So much to cover, but you got the main points. And you hinted ever so slightly of the main reason: the coaches crafted a game plan to deal with Ohio State's advantages, and adjusted better than I've seen in Lanning's short history. There's much to go into that, but I observed more poise from the team, more decisiveness and confidence against a team that matches up evenly with OBD, and the knack to turn momentum their way throughout the game. OBD were clutch last night. They didn't blink in the face of constant flux, and the coahing staff had an answer for everything the Buckeyes gave them. The staff accepted some physical and strategic disadvantages, and exploited mismatches they scouted out very well. The team was far more consistent than I expected, and they played like they wanted to win. Mistakes and all, they showed more grit last night than I've ever seen from Lanning's players ( even better than the Seattle game last year ). That was the best display of winning the mental battle I've seen since Chip's Natty team. They demonstrated next level effort mentally last night. Even if they had lost, this team, like Ohio State is showing, they are absolutely top three caliber. We will see if Texas is on that level next week. Make no mistake, this team showed last night they have the right stuff to win a Natty. 1 1 1 1
30Duck Moderator No. 6 Share Posted October 13 Yes, UCLA and UW have moved into the B1G and taken their place, as Kaitlin Olsen said, "USC is just embarrassing themselves, while OBD is doing "The Jefferson's", "Movin on up, to the penthouse in the sky". There were several moments during the game that it was right there for Ohio State to take control. But they didn't. The announcers of course saw that as Ohio State missing a chance, not Oregon, stopping them. But that's too be expected. The Ducks definitely didn't finesse their way to the win. They won it in the trenches, in the air and on the sideline. 1 3
Haywarduck No. 7 Share Posted October 13 So the LA schools bucked the trend and lost to programs traveling two time zones. The school up north kept that trend going with a thorough thrashing by Iowa. The trend has been broken with BIG traveling teams going 2-2 this week. Let's hope Oregon can keep that going this coming weekend with a win. After a BIG win like that, and a long road trip it could be a tough game. The good news is the game is late, which means not so late for our Ducks, but late for the boilermakers! Seems like the seasons schedule is really setting up nicely. Soft at the start, and then more challenges as the season progresses. Let's hope our Ducks can keep rising to meet the challenges. So far Lanning has them moving up with plenty of room for growth at 5-0 and undoubtedly ranked #2. Life is good looking through my green colored glasses.

That was Kelce Super Bowl stuff. 3 late SC leads, 3Ls. Penn State was resilient. The Buckeyes game at PSU should be interesting.

Notalot No. 10 Share Posted October 13 The game was highlighted by “never give up” resilience by the Ducks, and the Buckeyes too. That OBD friends was a remarkable hard fought football game. The skill playmakers on both sides of the ball are uber talented. The men in the trenches are as good or better than any in the country. The players gave their all. Dillon Gabriel earned a game ball not only for his yards passing, TD run and scrambling escapes, but for his athleticism and athletic finesse fielding errant snaps and still making plays. Any of those bad snaps could have ended in disaster and even changed the win into a loss. A bad snap changes the timing of the play. It reverses the advantage a Quarterback has in knowing what comes next and puts him on his heels. It takes his eyes off the defense and downfield and requires him to adjust. Gabriel overcame the bad snaps and remarkably delivered plus yards on most of them. Dillon Gabriel is calm within the storm. His performance against the Buckeyes raised his stature as a Duck.
