Indiana is a good but not elite team.  I would put Oregon, Ohio St, Penn St, and Indiana in that order.

Oh absolutely.

 

Michigan revealed Indiana may have trouble with elite Defensive fronts.  Ohio State proved you could really pressure the Hoosiers.

 

Indiana also blinked when they got "hit in the mouth".  The talent gap ended up intimidating them.  

 

Ohio State does not have an elite defense.  Indiana missed an early deep Seam route that confirmed tOSU still can't cover elite WRs.  

 

The one elite offense the Buckeyes faced (OBD) left at least 12 points on the field.  I'd attack those CBs ruthlessly.  Now that they know they have to blitz to bring pressure, they are more vulnerable.  

 

That's what I saw.

It proves OSU is better than Indiana just like Oregon beating Oregon State last year 31-7 proved OBD was better than Beavis. Nothing more, nothing less.

The game proved to Klatt and Cowherd that Ohio State would definitely beat Oregon in the CCG. Of course they said that the day after Oregon beat tOU so their thoughts aren't based on anything that happened on the field. Very little, except what Mike said about the Buckeyes pass coverage, can be transferred from this game to the rematch with Oregon. 

 

As the expression goes, "If you take, blank. blank, blank & blank away, the game would have gone completely differently."

Colin Cowherd has never had one good thing to say about the ducks. Thinking about the ducks reminds him of how he grew up in lowly Aberdeen, WA.  I remember when he was on the radio in Portland, he was an ashhead even then.

Clearly, to this point in the season, OBD's and tOSU are the 2 best teams in college football.

 

However, The Dawgs and the Tide are really rounding into shape and IMHO, are on the heels of the BIG front runners.

 

The Buckeyes are hungry for the rematch with the Ducks. Once they dispatch the Wolverines the stage will be set for the 2nd match of what should be a 3rd rubbermatch game. 

 

It is inevitable somewhere along the path to the Natty.

 

Some on this forum may not agree with my next thoughts, however OBD's will not beat tOSU in the BIG CCG......especially if the offense plays like they did against Maryland and Wisconsin.

 

Field goals, penalties and red zone lapses will not get it done against the Buckeyes. Not to mention the offense virtually disappearing in the 3rd quarter.

 

No matter who the Ducks put on the field, that next man up must bring their A plus effort.

 

Personally, I feel the break, rest and recovery will do wonders for the entire team. And the Ducks should open a large can of whoop arse on the huskies.

 

Then carry that recharge and energy in the BIG CCG and into the CFP.....

If Indiana didn’t have the worse punt team in FBS, the game could have looked a bit different.

 

There were a few punts prior to the TD return where the gunners were nowhere near the returner making the catch. In this day and age, it’s rare that any returner has space to return a punt.

The punter went for distance rather than hang time, which is a big no-no if you're kicking it to an elite athlete like Caleb Downs. Also their entire punt coverage team looked like a mix of full anck and long snappers, not an ounce of athletic quickness among them. That's a pretty deadly combination.

 

Also I was not impressed with the in game coaching from Indiana with exception of the time he called a time out right before the end of the quarter to ice the momentum of OSU. I don't know why more coaches don't do that when momentum is swinging against them.

tOSU showed they are the second best team in the country. Indiana solid but definitely not close to a great team. Had some really brutal mistakes that ended up costing them. I mean that dropped snap on the punt.... golly.

 

Cignetti certainly got ahead of himself, but it was a nice story. Will Howard trolling him a bit post-game. I can't wait to see Matayo and Co. hit him again

 

Hoosiers were out-physicalled in the trenches. Dan will have the OBD OL, once again, prepared for Knowles' schemes up front.

Jim Knowles Buckeyes D was not the group that made the trip to Eugene. Yes, there are still holes, especially at cornerback, but how about this statistic?

 

SACKS vs. OBD - ZIP! SACKS SINCE THE OREGON GAME BEFORE SATURDAY, 17. SACKS AFTER A HOOSIERS HOSING, 22.

 

Ohio State played ferociously yesterday, including another rebuilt O line. The game looked like what it was, future NFL players versus G5 All-Stars. Indiana battled but the Hoosiers were outmanned and had to play a perfect game to win and did not do so. 

 

To defeat the Buckeyes in Indianapolis, Ohio State will defeat Michigan and be OBD's opponent, The Ducks D will have to play better than it did in Autzen and pressure QB Will Howard who despite his stats is still a weak link. And OBD's O-line better be ready to play its best game of the season.

 

Yesterday, The Ohio State University looked like a team on a national title mission and the fans who travel in droves to Indianapolis had the old shoe rocking.

 

BUT FIRST THINGS FIRST. Danno needs to get a mangy dog off of his back.

Continuing to play a B12 schedule in the SEC (insert Georgia for B12 Oklahoma) Texas took care of business vs. a mediocre (sorry, Greg) Kentucky team. The Horns best win? Could OSU beat Oregon. Of course. As much as I would love for the team to win the trophy, I think they would still only fall to #2 and grab the 5th seed in the playoff. For those who don’t know about the bracket, the 5th seed plays the 12th seed at home (likely the Big 12 champ) and then the 4th seed which is the worst of the other conference champs (likely Boise State). So, in short, losing the B1G championship game won’t be the end of the world.

What I saw was Indiana shut down the nuts, and then take the ball down and score on their first drive. The nuts have weaknesses, and it isn't just #1 on defense. I would say DG should know who lines up against him every down, punish him relentlessly.

 

Then I saw a bunch of 2 and 3 star players line up to punt the ball to a bunch of 4 and 5 star players. Any mistake in this situation was going to be tragic, and it was catastrophic, devastating.

 

What we should take from this is even with even talent, mistakes are going to be dire. Either way the mistakes in the matchup between the nuts and our Ducks will probably determine the outcome.

 

This will also include play calling, and execution. Not being able to punish the blitz's that will be coming will affect the outcome of the game. A punter who tries to pad his stats on distance may open up a long return. Every play caller, and every player needs to be at the top of their game.

 

The refs will undoubtedly screw up, and our Ducks need to just let it roll off our backs like water does. The pundits will marvel at the nuts, we just have to crush the nuts!

 

For now pound the pups, and send them back to seattle with their tales between their legs. Let's make sure they are 0 fer away from home and begin the reign of Lanning over the dawgs that will forever end the question of who owns the west coast! I have no doubt Lanning will be focused on this game, hopefully the players will be too!
