Now keep in mind...this is at this moment. If all who are supposed to sign don't, or another school gets a dandy recruit--this could change. But damn! David Marsh No. 9 Share Posted December 4 On 12/4/2024 at 1:53 PM, jrw said: I guess Scott Frost was wrong? Frost was right... in the old model of recruiting it was difficult to recruit to Oregon. Oregon was built on diamonds in the rough and a rare scattering of 5 stars. Those coaches, players and teams all built the Oregon brand. But they just couldn't regularly land high level recruits. Just think of the difference in time, ten years ago (yes 2014 was ten years ago) Oregon was still a rather new flashy brand and Eugene was considered a backwater in the college football world. Fast forward to today, those kids we are recruiting now all remember those Chip Kelly teams when they were kids. To them Oregon has always been a major brand and a major school. Oregon is now a destination in more ways than it was even just a decade ago. Scott Frost WAS right... but he is NOW wrong. Cristobal outworked the opposition in his recruiting classes. Lanning has outworked everyone and has one of the best NIL collectives supporting him, though it is important to note that Division Street doesn't use as much money as other programs but they have plenty to be competitive and that's all that matters. Scott Frost Was Absolutely Right About Recruiting to Oregon | FishDuck FISHDUCK.COM Oregon is hot on the recruiting trail right now. Just last week, Oregon landed 2022 recruit Andre Dollar over Scott Frost and... And also... Helfrich completely recruited inside the Oregon norm. Oregon has higher standards and more resources than ever before. And when it comes to NIL, Oregon is absolutely one of the biggest benefactors of NIL. Lanning is the best recruiter in the country, I said it last season and I think it is playing out today as well. kirklandduck Moderator No. 11 Share Posted December 4 It's unlikely they'll stay at #1 but the fact that DL is even in the ballpark with such relatively few commits is absolutely amazing. Charles Fischer Author Administrator No. 12 Share Posted December 4 Dan killed it even bigger in the Portal last year, and the whispers from pay-sites is that Oregon has been contacted by some big names who intend to move into the portal after this season with the Ducks at the top of their list to transfer to. Again...it is rumor, but considering things right now...it is quite plausible. 1 1 Mr. FishDuck
EagleScoutJim No. 13 Share Posted December 4 It will be interesting to watch who hits the transfer portal to and from Oregon. I am hopeful that DL and staff have been transparent enough with these players that they realize few will start day one, and that it might be a year and a day before they see the field. I think a lot of the current transfer portal traffic is due to feeding the unreal expectations that some of these kids have going into a program, any program. Most have dreams of the bright lights of the NFL. Out of the 133 Division I teams, in any year there are only a maximum of 224 players drafted. Out of those, how many actually sign and play on Sundays? I would hope the selling point would be, we’ll Coach you up, and get you on the field when you’re ready. In the mean time, take advantage of the free education and enjoy the college life.

The reality is that in order to compete at the highest levels you just need to bring in a top 5 class rather consistently. Even if Oregon drops a place or two we are still in that zone. Beyond that our class rating in terms of individual player rankings is super high and that's the most important stat. Bring in the quality players.

Oregon has had the most success with the portal of any team in the country, meaning they've brought it great players and successfully integrated them into the team and brought out their best, vs. a team like FSU that is loaded with transfers and collectively they all fell on their face.

30Duck Moderator No. 20 Share Posted December 5 This is going to sound smug. But unlike the UW fans, it's based in reality. I was watching the B1G Signing Day Show, and they led off with the No.1 class the Ducks were assembling and then went on with the coaches of the other schools, like Fickell, and Locksley and Fisch, etc, etc, etc, and they'd talk, and the host would congratulate them on their 20th, 30th something class...how are they going to compete?
