Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted January 3 We have a flurry of people registering to post for the first time on this forum, and it creates more work for me as I have to manually approve everyone. A Spammer from Russia tried to register using AI to help write his Oregon "story," and at this time I can filter those out. But we also have some who want to register, and then start out with bitter complaints about Oregon and their game performance. My attitude is, if he/she is not here for discussion at other times, then you do not have permission to start out with your bitter-bile. Not welcome. We also have had some obvious Trolls try to get in, and I blocked them. We have had some very rational Buckeye fans apply, and after chatting with them could see that they are reasonable people who are also great fans of their school. I welcome such fans, as their perspectives about the conference could be very helpful for us as a community. They have posted already, and confirmed my good vibes from them. I spoke to a new member this morning, an Oregon fan who between he and a family member--were stunned at "the rational discussion in spite of the loss." They were attracted to the civility of the forum, and I certainly welcome new forum members who appreciate our GREEN REFUGE. Do you know of other Duck fans or B1G fans who should know about us, and join? We welcome "UNIQUE" fans! 2 3 2 Mr. FishDuck
The Kamikaze Kid Moderator No. 2 Share Posted January 4 Great work Charles I enjoy reading the perspectives of other fan bases without the usual bile spewed back and forth. Even the Florida and UGA fans have been civil and I know that must not be easy! 2
30Duck Moderator No. 3 Share Posted January 4 SEC, new Ohio State fans, would love to have a Penn State, Michigan fan find their way over here. We aren't going to see a Husky athletic supporter. 1 1 2
Nevada Dawg No. 4 Share Posted January 4 I actually take mild offense to the statement that it is hard for UGA fans to be civil. I am trying to be right civil at this here moment and most UGA fans I know have absolutely no problem with civility at all. Just my opinion and I'll comment no further on the above statement. 2 5

Certainly judging by all of your posts that I've read, I believe the UGA fans to be most civil. 1 2
jrw Moderator No. 6 Share Posted January 4 Kudos to you, Charles, for the concept of the site, and for the effort involved in keeping it a civil place. Every fan base is mostly nice, rational people; there are always exceptions, in the Ducks' case too, obviously. 1 1

Nevada Dawg, you have always seemed civil to me on this site and a welcome contributor. It's great when we can have fans from lots of different programs giving different perspectives. Thanks for your contributions. 1 1 4

Mr. Dawg, do you know that feller we all see hollerin' on ESPN about the SEC, Pawl Finebomb. Do you reckon he'd drop by?

Finebaum is a pundit not a blog participant. If he wasn't controversial and was totally inoffensive to everyone, his paid position would disappear or he'd be replaced. It is the sports media world in which we reside. 3
The Kamikaze Kid Moderator No. 10 Share Posted January 5 Maybe I should clarify my statement a bit. I meant that it's impressive that members of rival fan bases can stay civil with each other while interacting on this board. I have no idea how I'd behave on an UGA board interacting with a fuskie fan!
GatOrlando No. 11 Share Posted January 5 I think the majority of fans are rational and it's the lunatic fringe that is at most eight to ten percent that ruin it for everyone else. Just like most parts of everyday life. We generally agree it's much easier to be ourselves and be kind. Take away the logo, color scheme and whatever else we think that separates us in our fan hood and we're just people. I've been to several different states and a few different countries. Get past the superficial things like language, theological ideas or skin pigmentation and I've found most to share quite a bit in common with me. Amazing isn't it? I will say that the level of back and forth is mostly attributed to our competitive attitudes. Coke or Pepsi. Ford or Chevrolet. McDonalds vs Burger King. Nike vs Reebok.SEC vs B1G. It's fun as long as we don't take it past playful jibes. 2

Mary Ann vs Ginger may be one of the sneakiest mismatches in history. On the surface it's the girl next door (Dorothy) vs sultry movie star (Marilyn Monroe). The reality is a beauty pageant winner (Miss Nevada) and Miss America contestant vs a regular actress. In football terms Mary Ann vs Ginger would be like Boise St vs Oklahoma. Poor Ginger never had a chance! 2

I watched that game with an older English friend/business partner. He wanted to experience all of the craziness surrounding college football in the states. I watched it with him, his wife and daughter and they all fell in love with college football that night! It was absolutely one of the most entertaining games I’ve ever watched. 1

I was also tongue-in-cheek poking a little fun at the Kamikaze whom I hoped would see what I was doing with the subsequent dialect that followed and whose comment I never considered at all hostile. I also certainly hope and was reasonably confident that he didn't think I had a serious beef here. 3
