February 11Feb 11 Moderator Interesting addition, as Canady maybe projects best to the Star, where Daylen Austin is a contender for the two deep. I wonder if Austin's legal issues are a concern for his potential availability in the fall.
February 11Feb 11 I’ve only found very limited videos but he seems like he’s good in coverage (albeit he’s listed at 5’10” on one site) and has good ball skills (former WR in high school?). It’ll be interesting to see how he fits in the rotation but seems like a good pickup and I love the pipeline.
February 11Feb 11 Moderator These are the kind of transfers that seemed necessary in the past but concern me now. Incoming three stars that are good enough to take away playing time from young four stars that just need some playing time to develop into four stars on the field. I feel they could risk losing a higher ceiling by opting for a higher floor. Lanning has put together much better teams than I have so I differ to his judgement on this one but it still concerns me. I think we have arrived at that time to take off the training wheels even if it means a possible crash or two before we're soon popping wheelies and cruising around town riding without hands.
February 11Feb 11 Moderator I'm viewing him as a good depth piece but leery of his size, 5'10" type DBs are where we got burned at times last season. I'd argue that he should rotate with Daylen Austin at nickel and see where the chips fall by mid-season regarding who starts full time going forward.
February 11Feb 11 Moderator Remember, Kam Alexander was supposed to come in and start last season and he ended up only playing in four blowouts. He had four tackles and one interception on the year. Nothing is guaranteed when transferring to Oregon.

I agreed with the concerns Kamikaze Kid raised and 5'10 is what I noticed first. I don't know if the Ducks need to be using the portal to bring in 5'10 DB's. 5'10 DB's are the image I'll never get out of my mind from the Rose Bowl.

This... 100% I dont get the point of bringing him in.

After looking at the timing of this and the lack of any lead-in hype, my bet is that there is real concern inside the program about the status of Austin. Was Canady on a short list of 'commit now and don't wait for the spring portal crapshoot' options for star/nickel as a depth piece for just this eventuality? For Austin's sake I am really hoping my read on this is wrong but it's the only thing that makes any sense.
