NCAA Men's Tourney, Round 2, Oregon Blows Lead, Eliminated by Arizona 87-83

I like your analysis and hope it is right as I was (am) expecting a close game that could go either way while admittedly knowing nothing about Arizona. Go Ducks!!

You knew it was coming, but I truly think Oregon will win this game. The Big Ten season has prepared the Ducks for games like this, and I think the Ducks have matchup advantages over the Wildcats 1–5.

What are the match-up advantages for the Ducks?

Would help if the refs called even one over the back on Zona, basically allowing them to go kamikaze into our big men, we need to be stronger though.

Time to bench Barthelemy, he's given us absolutely nothing right now.

19 point turnaround for Arizona, from a 15 point lead early for the Ducks, to the 42-38 Arizona lead at halftime. the comeback was fueled by Oregon turnovers and offensive rebounds and second chance points for Arizona, they had 4 OR's resulting in 2 points once

AZ is better at every position on the floor right now, except maybe PG.  Shelstad came to play.  Too bad everyone else looks over matched.

Well .... I'm 80 years old and I can hit 50% of my FTs.  And .... I suspect that if you glued me to the floor somewhere near the key, I'd get a defensive rebound or two.  Good grief but this game is going to make me tear out my remaining hair.

Maybe I should take up golf.  🤪

8-17 from the free throw line 🤮

Good fight, but pathetic at the line

Caleb Love of course decides to have his best game of the year.

Is it illegal for any Altman team to know how to inbound?

One heck of a game but Arizona played good enough and deserved the win IMHO.

Well shuckeyDarn!

AZ made their free throw Oregon did not, end of story.

Good game.  I think AZ the better team (more depth), but maybe not. No patience for a team that misses half its free throws in a game like this.  Doubt either can beat Duke.  Ducks play hard and compete.  On to next year!

Free throws:

Ariz:  17 of 24

Ore:  12 of 22

That's 5 points in a 4 point game.

Field goals:

Ore:  32 of 68, with 7 of 20 on 3's

Ariz:  30 of 66, with 10 of 20 on 3's

Points:

Ore:  25x2, 7x3, 12

Ariz:  20x2, 10x3, 17

Indeed on the free throws. Very entertaining game that makes me realize how much I miss the old PAC. Different level of being into it against these guys. We had to make the move to the B1G, but now that we’ve completed a season of hoops and football, I’m not a fan of it at all.

Okay season in hoops, nothing wrong with making the tourney and winning a game.

Not every Pac basketball game was against Arizona or UCLA.

I like the Big Ten schedule in both sports.

That was a fun game to watch. Poor free throw shooting and too many offensive rebounds doomed the Ducks.

They didn't lay down, though. Fought hard to the end. 25 wins is nothing to cry about!

Ah inbounding. The Ducks are good a defending when they need a TO, but as for their own prowess!! What were some of those lazy lobs to nowhere (except perhaps to waiting Arizona Wildcats)? Just askin.

2024 season record against Sweet 16 teams from Big Ten:

W - Maryland

L - Purdue

L - Michigan

Lx2 - Michigan State

against former Pac 12 teams in Sweet 16:

L - Arizona

against non-Pac in Sweet 16:

W - Alabama

At the start of the game, I thought how bad I'd be feeling if the Ducks were down 19-4? I wasn't thinking they'd have the lead 10 minutes later.

Losing from the line was also the case with the Badgers loss to BYU. Wisky missed six one + one front end shots.

10 seed Arkansas is the only team lower than a No. 6 seed to make the Sweet Sixteen.

APNEWS.COM

Years of bracket chaos have given way to the year of the power conference. Cinderella is staying home this time.

Conference consolidation at the 'Power' level and transfer portal free agency have resulted in the first All-Power-Conference Sweet 16. (Although, it took a great shot by Maryland freshman Queen, for the Terps to defeat CO. ST. and advance.)

If the football playoff committee used the strength-of-schedule metric it pays for and not the eye test, and with no guaranteed spot for a G6 team, the 14 or 16-team PO field in 2026-27 would consist of all Power 4 teams with the B1G and the SEC dominating the field.

Four-seeds each for the B1G and the SEC in the football PO field accurately reflect the state of today's game. The B12 in particular should be happy about two seeds being guaranteed.
