Whew! Destruction of Houthis Radar and Missile Platforms...and New Weapons Unveiled

Recommended Posts

It is a very slow off-season, and for those who enjoy the military and recent developments--you might enjoy this video. Quite a bit of weapons tactics and technology is explained, along with a new weapon in our "Growlers" that saw action for the first time--very successfully.  The bombing strategy was a surprise as well to me.

With over 170 attacks against our Navy and world shipping, trade of all nations was impeded in that region by these pirates--it was interesting to see our response.  (This is NOT a political post, so let's keep it off that)

The F 35, which is a stealth fighter, combined with the Growlers, whose main mission is to disrupt and destroy air defense systems, is a formidable combination.

A “measured response” to a known threat.

As a country in whole, we have some really scary things that have been mothballed up. More than a few Marines have jokingly said the "Chair Force" is the sleeping Lion of the military. We're already seeing the effects of drone technology.

"Off we go go into the wild...." I won't finish the song. I had to "sing" the credo a couple times in front a crowd. I could've made a killing by selling them ear plugs before my performance.

I forgot to mention that if you read the comments below the video--you will learn more, and see a bunch of Marines offer more information.  I am a military history buff, but I do find some of the new weapon updates quite interesting.  I do not bring in an article like this very often, but it was a slow time, and that was an extremely well-done video.

Fascinating video. I was surprised at how modern and powerful the Houthis' systems are.

I was also surprised  by how much info on the US capabilities it puts out there. I guess none of it is "secret" anymore.

I do not see how anyone could even remotely consider this political. Are we recruiting in Houthi territory?

Somebody made that complaint, and I deleted it.  If someone wanted to make it political, there are a ton of things that anyone could have stated in the post.  (But I didn't) Regardless of when it is done...a military operation is just that regardless of who is in charge.

I posted military videos on occasion in the past during the slow times when other people were in office, so neither time are the posts meant to be a political statement.  I am just a military history buff, and when new stuff comes out...and it is a slow time--I know there are some who are amused with it.

If anyone finds it objectionable--please ignore it as you would any other article link posted that you pass on.  The bigger question is--will more people jump in and create posts for discussion?  If so...I am not reverting to an occasional military video.

Agreed. These "pirates" have been well-supplied, and were well entrenched.  Not at all what I pictured, and thus why they are such a problem.

A sidebar regarding Growlers and their pilot training.

Living on the North Olympic Penunsula, I see or hear (depending on cloud cover) Growlers almost daily. That’s because the Olympic Mts are a primary training site. ‘Targets’ are placed and repositioned daily on remote logging roads to test and challenge pilot aptitude locating and ‘destroying’ ground installations.

To simulate carrier take-offs and landings, the Navy base on Whidbey Island (roughly 50 miles east of where I live) near Coupville has a runway that approximates any aircraft carrier length they may have to use.

While I’m certainly no authority on military aircraft, my minuscule grasp of jet propulsion suggests carrier craft require a more direct thrust system in order to achieve downforce ratings capable of fully-loaded carrier based take-offs. Similar to the open-header system of a race car, this creates a whole lot of noise; hence, the name Growler.

While we certainly know when Growler squadrons are on their way to and from targets, they’re at flight elevation; and, excepting the exceptionally sensitive, don’t bother us much.

That’s not the case for home owners on flight paths around Coupville. It’s loud. But, most understand it’s what comes with the territory: the price one pays for the best military in the world. A small handful raise a big stink online and in the local media, but they’re written off as retiree out-of-towners who didn’t do their homework before buying. Always some of those.

I believe the kids refer to the Houthi's predicament as:

FAFO

I did not know what that acronym was, and had to find out right here, and get a laugh.  Accurate and true!
