Five-star passer Jared Curtis, the No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 class, announced his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs over the Oregon Ducks Monday night, closing a fierce recruiting battle that...

A good sign I think. I read a blurb the other day that a player had committed to 3 different schools before landing finally, perhaps at Ole Miss. Commits are always good, but in the environment now, mean far less than they ever did.

Oregon recruiting, in both football and men's basketball, is in a serious downward spiral over the past few months.  Hopefully, they can reverse course here very soon.

As soon as Curtis verbaled for GA Oregon got a prediction to pick up Ryder Lyons.

This was a "good-or-good" scenario to me, in that I think that when it comes to the QB position--an experienced one through the portal might be the best way for Oregon...

I'm slightly disappointed to not get him, but man, it's such a crapshoot. Like 1 out of all the playoff teams had a QB they signed from HS.

It's more disconcerting to be struggling with recruiting this year with USC stepping so much, you do wonder how much USC is really affecting talent available to us.

Like the players we used to steal from USC aren't available to take anymore so we are more reliant on stealing from non-west coast locations where we have a lower hit rate. How big of an impact is that?

It's non-zero, but we won't really know until signing day.

In the end I think his parents influenced his decision due to the distance.

I think if OBD can get him, Ryder Lyons is a better fit in WS’s offense since he’s much more of a dual threat type of QB. His size and talent remind me of Bo Nix, plus the 1 year mission he’s taking leaves some extra time for the already talented QB room to spread out a bit.

Yes, it's been very brutal. I wonder if we are trying to play the nice guy a bit too much and are allowing players to make decisions for the love of the game and our program. It's not enough- we need to pay a lot more if we keep losing out like this. Plus the defections? Just pay more. It's not my or your money.

Anyone else beyond tired of recruits playing into the click bait tease game that seems to be the only reason for most (OBD not included) sports sites to exist so they can offer nothing but last weeks news?

I’ve nothing but admiration for those athletes who announce their schools of interest and then shut up.

See you in December, see you when it's Signing Day. Before Signing Day, a 'Commitment' is Nihil, Latin for 'Nothing.'

And unless the Portal is reined in, many of the players you don't sign today will be there on the rebound.

This kid could have stayed with his original 'commitment' and saved the Dawgs and the Ducks time and money. Like Ty Thompson, he plays in a lower-level high school football conference.

Leading recruiting rankings today is as meaningless as a lead at halftime. 😁

I’m missing something I think. Outside of Stanford I can’t think of a a franchise QB coming out of Georgia. Bobo was a good college QB ( I think ), as was Bennet ( I guess ). Hines Ward turned into a feared wide receiver for Pittsburgh but only took a few snaps at QB.

Oregon however has a QB list far outweighing the Bulldogs which couldn’t hang onto to Beck. Curtis should start right away and will be successful because of the cast of studs around him. If he goes to the Ducks I see him sitting for maybe 3 years.

Judging from the spring game we are in excellent shape at qb.

 Worry Not my friends.

Akili Smith Jr. Reminds me of a young Jaden Daniels. We're likely set for the next 3 years at QB with who we have on our roster right now, let alone transfer portal options that will exist.

Oregon could focus all of its attention on five-star Ryder Lyons after losing out on Jared Curtis.
