Posted June 27Jun 27 Administrator I am trying to figure out which is worse....adding Texas State to a conference, or calling the conference they are creating as the, "New Look Pac-12." This label has popped up in several references by writers in the last two weeks, with John Canzano being one of the primary promoters of the label. (Of course) I mean....how DO you portray the revised conference that is clearly much, much worse than the original....and everyone knows it? Are you really trying to pretend it is something better than it is? Mr. FishDuck
June 27Jun 27 They badly need to rebrand their logo as it is no longer even representative of the geographical locations for most of the schools! two total schools in the new conference can be considered as "mountain" schools (Colorado State, Utah State), yet it is one of the predominate features in the current PAC-12 logo. The new logo needs to be as boring as possible in order to properly highlight the generic, no-name places in each state that their respective schools call home! And a name change to the Left Behind Land Grant State Schools Conference should be legally required!
June 27Jun 27 I am looking forward to seeing the football attendance for oac when a home slate includes Utah State and Texas State. The only conference draws may be Boise and Fresno. I predict a very New Mexico-like** late season attendance number of sub 20K for turds like TSU and USU. CSU not much better. **I admit I have a grad degree from UNM and attended a few sub 10K games while there. I do not see the reasoning for not joining the MWC. It would have been a much stronger conference than the Pac-Steight or the current MW. Beavernation needs a B-2 flyover and a bunkerbuster shot to the athletic department. Of course Beaverbob will do a press conference and claim that there is nothing to see there.

I could see them getting 12 million if they embrace that 7pm time slot and play hardball with it. I could see ESPN and Fox being ok with that kind of payout if they get that time slot filled regularly. But I DOUBT the Scrap-12 will consider embracing the 7pm time slot and they will probably all see themselves worth 20mil and prime time slots. They are still pushing this notion that they are a Power Conference but they are G6. If they were smart they'd leverage their west coast time slot to their advantage. But if they were smart they would have used that Pac-12 war-chest they stole and bought their way into the Big 12.

In which attendance might be good because winning is still fun. And if they're winning they can dream of making the playoff... only to be outraged when they're snubbed.

Because then the Pac-12 would have been dissolved with assets distributed equally among the 12 former members, and the Pig-2 couldn't have stolen 300 million from the other 10 former Pac-12 schools. They had to retain the name... Mr. FishDuck
June 27Jun 27 Author Administrator Omigosh. A little humor about the Pac-12 trying to add schools--from a writer at The Athletic... ---------------------------------------- A comprehensive case for the Pac-12 ensuring all of its football members continue to have "State" in their names: "The obvious next choice for Pac-12 expansion is Florida State. "1. Adds the Florida footprint to the premier West Coast conference. "2. A built-in rivalry with Fresno State. Who’s the REAL FSU?? "3. In their filing against the ACC, Florida State said they would have preferred adding Oregon State instead of Cal and Stanford. Now’s your chance, Noles. "The answer is too obvious for it to ever happen, but as we have seen, the simplest solution is always the most elusive in college football." Tallahassee is very near the west coast of a coastal state, after all. Mr. FishDuck
June 27Jun 27 There’s a reason they haven’t shared the details of the TV deal. Some unknowns include if they paid extra to entice BSU and SDSU. Don’t forget to throw in Gonzaga getting a full share without a football team. The number I keep hearing is around $65M. Whatever number for a TV deal is finally released is not going to be as clean as dividing by 8. Edited June 27Jun 27 by JabbaNoBargain
June 27Jun 27 Charles is correct. The whole thing with retaining "Pac12" is money related. For example, the Rose Bowl contract is with the Pac12. As a result, OSU/WSU will receive $50M for the 2025 game, and another $50M for the 2026 game. Then, the existing Rose Bowl contract expires. That would have been money split 12 ways. I doubt there is any plan to split that 2026 game money with the new members of the Pac. There is no way OSU/WSU were going to walk away from that by merging with the Mt. West or renaming the conference. There is also some residual value in retaining the logo, web page, office signs, etc. etc. that don't have to be replaced.

June 29Jun 29 The clowns should've just joined the Mountain West but did it in a way where they changed the name to PAC West. Now I gotta hear how Texas State, San Jose State, and Buckee Beaver State are all the next UCF or Boise State. Mount Union and Wisconsin Whitewater have more name value than whatever the new Pac Who is adding.
July 1Jul 1 Moderator 😴 🙃🤬 It's All a Huge Mis-State 🤪 Pac-12 officially announces Texas State as new member of conference - On3 WWW.ON3.COM . Gould blew through the purloined Pac-12 Gold for this? 🤑 🤮
July 1Jul 1 It has been a full year since OSU/WSU were left because of the football business decisions they made. They are making the best of their "now" situation. They are not stealing anything from any school, since every other PAC 12 team left of their own free will. I remember when the Ducks hadn't yet left for the B1G about discussions leaving USC and UCLA out of PAC 12 payments. The PAC 12 is still a brand name and OSU/WSU are using that. Not that 30 million per school is a little amount, but Oregon will make up the 30 mil in 1 or 2 years? However, OSU and WSU have to deal with being an afterthought probably forever. The bullying of OSU and WSU is kicking a dead horse at this point. Oregon is in a much better financial place, to be angry at OSU/WSU for trying to make lemonade out of lemons........

Respectfully, I would say that the PIG-2 entering a scheduling agreement in bad faith with the MWC, and then turning around and strategically poaching MWC members, and then legally fighting poaching fees they agreed to is calling out their hypocrisy, not bullying. IMO the PIG-2 are classic bullies. Can’t compete with someone supposedly in your weight class? Go kick some sand in the face of someone you think can take. Gonna be hilarious watching them fail in a watered down “PAC”. Edited July 1Jul 1 by JabbaNoBargain

Friday at 05:25 PM1 day I can't knock it. The conference needed another team to meet the requirements and every conference needs a bottom team. They were not going to find a contender this year. By joining, Texas State will improve their recruiting chops, though not this season. We all knew the membership was not going to rival what blew up for several years at the minimum. Clearly there is a lot of room to improve before the PAC?? is relevant again. Strength of schedule for the champ is not going to be favorable but there are at least a couple of teams who could get a natty shot.
Friday at 07:44 PM1 day Moderator I find this continuing humiliation of land-grant institutions like Beavis to be very unstatesmanlike; nothing but an overstatement about bank statements that is devastating to their self-esteem. They deserve an interstate relationship as much as any other, allowing them to gestate into a reinstated conference. This whole conversation gives me nothing but a pain in the prostate!
