I didn’t see a thread to discuss the Big 12 Championship Game between BYU and Texas Tech

It’s early but I’d prefer to play Texas Tech over any of the other currently ranked top 4 teams. They are a good team but nothing special, IMO.

Their QB may be the worst of any of the playoff teams (ranks #29 in QBR) and Texas Tech’s SOS is ranked 59. They may be a paper tiger.

BYU 7, Texas Tech 0

BYU’s defense got a stop and their offense marched right down the field.

It's odd:

Texas Tech's reward for winning would be likely playing a warmed up Oregon after being off themselves for a few weeks.

BYU gets a playoff spot if they win and are left out if they lose, so they have everything to play for.

The TTU head coach is probably wondering how he can lose this game without getting punished too bad for it.

If he pulls the starters after halftime nobody knows how the committee would handle that.

I agree that BYU has more to play for and I’m looking at the players, schemes and potential matchups.

Texas Tech has some good players but no one that has wowed me. Their QB is mediocre.

Well the official and the network worked very hard to ignore an obvious push off by the WR on the touchdown throw.

After NTU/Tulane last night I'm highly sus there are some big thumbs on the scale for these playoff play-in games.

It really bothers me that wide receiver push offs are mostly ignored. Offenses have all the advantages in today’s game. No reason to give them another.

This BYU OL is completely in over their head. Now they are playing desperate football because of it. This could get out of hand fast.

They are having some success running right at them right now. Not so much on pass pro.

Texas Tech’s second level defenders look fast but a bit undersized. If you can find a way to neutralize Texas Tech’s d-line, you’d have to like the matchups.

If I was on the committee and TTU pulled their starters at halftime and lost. I would vote to have them eliminated from the playoffs. I would not reward such behavior and that would send a message to coaches in future years.

I really hope this doesn’t happen but…What would happen if there were a season ending injury to a key player in the B1G or SEC Championship Games?

Would that conference finally move to end the conference championship game?

Tech looks to be the better team, up at the half 13-7. BYU qb is gimpy on a bad ankle and TT's front seven is handling BYU's O-line. Their LB Rodriguez is a load and their best defensive player.

Tech's qb is a bit undersized but evasive, like UW's Williams. Given a clean pocket he is fairly accurate but gets sloppy when rushed or pressured without an easy scramble out. He has thrown two balls that could/should have been picked off.

They have two good and tall WRs (#1 and #7) and the BYU DBs are a bit over-matched. The RB (#8) is solid but he coughed up a fumble that should have been a TO and instead bounced right to a Tech WR that got 10 more yards on the FG drive before the half.

Interesting that three of TT's drives on BYU's side of the 50 stalled out and resulted in 3 FG attempts with 6 total points.

Oregon will match up much better than BYU both on the D-line and in the back end. I'm pulling for a TT win so they stay at #4, OBD stays at #5 and they meet up in the quarters. I think Oregon wins that contest.

I’m rooting for Tech. I don’t want a bye given the extended layoff.

The most favorable match I see vs. Texas Tech is the OBD coaching staff vs. TT staff.

At 21-7,

TT, this game is effectively over.

This is an easy fix. Don't punish the number 4 seed for being the four seed. Give them a reasons to play to win, such a home field advantage.

Everybody in the stadium and watching on TV knew where the BYU QB was going to throw that pass that was intercepted.

OC for BYU is playing right into TT game plan. After the first 2 series the Duck opponents have no clue what play is coming out of their basic formations. OBD's have truly become well balanced and lethal since the IU game.

Like many teams in the potential CFP, TT will not be an easy out. OBDF members do not underestimate this team.

As a school and program they are playing loose with nothing to lose. House money for sure.

This is a team that the Duck O can power down the field on. On the D side, their is NO defense in the BIG 12 at OBD's. None!

The sad part about a potential BYU loss is it would open the door wide for ND or the canes. Any playoff without them is better.

Go Ducks........

Like everything else, it depends on how much money they are given to do so!

If TT wins , I see them moving up to #3 and Indiana or OSU with a loss falling to #4. I can easily see the committee ranking the 3 conference championship game winners 1, 2 & 3 and the loser of the BIG10 game at #4.

BYU has a sieve for an O-line and minimal downfield passing attack. TT just has too much talent and speed on both sides of the ball.
