Posted November 26, 20213 yr Administrator I've seen quite a few of these articles, and today had one in the Eugene R-G by Don Kahle, who usually writes a bunch of fluffy nonsense. But he proposed a bunch of new name candidates, and the vast majority matched the level of his typical missives, but a few caught my eye. I would love your thoughts and suggestions as well. The Oregon Classic (This is what it was known as prior to 1937, and should be considered a leading candidate?) The Platypus Bowl The Platypus Cup (This is my second favorite) War for the Willamette Willamette War (This is my favorite as it is short--has our violence embedded and has a bit a alliteration.) Willamette River Rivalry Oregon War The Oregon Bowl Boss of the Moss RainBowl The Reign in the Rain Turf War Slugfest Thoughts? Mr. FishDuck
November 26, 20213 yr Platypus Bowl or Platypus Cup are my favorite. The history is there and it makes biological sense. However, it does seem that a majority of the fan base is refusing to walk away from the previous moniker of "Civil War". Does this say something about the fan base? November 26, 20213 yr Moderator Although maybe most appropriate, the Platypus Bowl although appropriate, gives the rest of the country more fodder to criticize the schools. "No name game" game?
November 26, 20213 yr Of those listed, The Oregon Classic or Willamette Valley Rivalry. I but still like Valley Classic, proposed by someone previously on a different thread. (Sorry--I forget who!).
November 26, 20213 yr The Hazelnut Bowl? The Timber Bowl? The Rain Bowl? The Cranberry Bowl? The Blackberry Bowl? The Peppermint Bowl? The Rhubarb Bowl? The Grass Seed Bowl? Oregon is the #1 Producer in the US for these things, except rain. Edited November 26, 20213 yr by 1Ducker1

November 26, 20213 yr How about "The Damn Quacker Bowl". Trophy is a pond with a beaver moving a log to the side with a duck paddling around. I may have been drinking when I thought of this. . . just sayn, I'll be quiet now. Edited November 26, 20213 yr by EzDucksIt
November 27, 20213 yr Moderator Let's Ignore History Game? The good guys won. 100,000 black soldiers fought and died for the Union.
November 27, 20213 yr How about the Homey game, or the 'Winners Out Bowl, make it the only rivalry game where the winner gets to play at home. You win, you get to play at home until the opposing team wins. If people want to get rid of the traditional name, get rid of the traditional, tradition of playing every other at home. Make the loser earn it, put some zip into losing and zest into winning, 'The Winners Bowl!' The motto 'Oregon, Where Winning Matters!' Maybe we could make the same agreement with the dawgs?
November 27, 20213 yr Once you hear it, you're sold. Henceforth, it shall be known as the "Platypus Punch-Out." You're welcome.
