QUACK: Oregon Lands Iowa LB Transfer Jestin Jacobs

Oregon has picked up a commitment from Iowa linebacker transfer Jestin Jacobs. The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder

is one of the top transfer on the market and has tremendous upside.

Jacobs was being discussed as an NFL prospect prior to an injury that cut his season short in the second game.

He was offered by Ohio State out of HS, and was pursued by the Buckeyes for this transfer as well.  He was a high Rivals 4-Star out of high school.

Well done Coach Lanning and D staff. This young man knows how to play linebacker. One great season at Oregon and onto the NFL.

Keep them coming Coach. A better than average Duck D will help win alot of games in 2023.

Oregon scores a commitment from Alabama transfer Traeshon Holden

The Oregon Ducks' hot run on the recruiting trail continues as they've added yet another big addition to its roster. Alabama

wide receiver Traeshon Holden has announced his commitment to the Ducks after taking an official visit over the weekend.

The 6-foot-3 wide receiver spent three seasons at Alabama and spent the last two within the primary wide receiver rotation.

Holden caught 25 passes for 331 yards and six touchdowns this season.

He finished his career catching 46 passes for 570 yards and seven touchdowns. He will arrive at Oregon with two years of eligibility remaining,

plus a redshirt if needed. Holden will be draft eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft, should he have a good enough year to leave Oregon early.

Wow. Right out of the gate with two big transfer pick ups. Welcome to Eugene Holden and Jacobs!

Will Jacobs replace Sewell, if he decides to enter the draft, or does he play outside?

Oregon is an attractive destination for transfers given our track record, the chance to compete for a conference and national championship and our coach’s tireless effort and recruiting ability.

Now if we can only close the deal with Hicks!!!!

Football World Reacts To Alabama's Big Transfer Loss

Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide typically don't lose too many key players to the transfer portal.

But the Crimson Tide have lost one on Sunday night.

Alabama wide receiver Traeshon Holden, who caught six touchdown passes this season, announced his

transfer decision on Sunday evening. The former four-star recruit is heading to Oregon.

"This Is HUGE. Lanning bringing them SEC boys to Oregon," one fan wrote.

Just watched some Jestin Jacobs highlights. He looks extremely athletic, and is a “wiry” 6-4 225 lbs. JJ could probably play inside or outside linebacker and I could see him coming  off the edge on the blitz given his quickness and athleticism, just like Lanning drew up at Georgia.

Looks to be a very exciting pickup for the Oregon D!

Traeshon Holden looks like the prototypical Alabama wide receiver. Very athletic, ability to make the tough catch and get RAC yards. I saw him lineup both outside and in the slot.

Great pick up. Wonder if this is another indication that Nix is coming back next year?

So a portal LB to replace Flowe leaving, and a receiver to replace Cota--a portal WR transfer last year.  Seems like we are winning the portal battle so far!

I have to laugh at this Headline Hyperbole.  "Football World Reacts" and then some "writer" quotes three random, unnamed fans expressing surprise at the transfer.  Yep, seems like the whole football world is reacting in shock.  🙄

Gotta love the Internet...

Dare I say.... Jacobs highlights at Iowa look better than the 5 star that is leaving? Awesome pick up.

Also, though it is an hiliarious over-write to suggest that an Alabama WR transfer shocks the internet, it is weird as they usually straight to the NFL and not to the West Coast. Huge pick up. Literally!

To me the fact that Jacobs was planned to be a central piece of the Hawkeyes defense says EVERYTHING we need to know about him.  The Hawkeyes play undeniably great "D" and they do it via player development.

Holden's resume speaks for itself... the WRs next year are going to be phenomenal.

We still have needs though, we need pass rush up front and that's a tough get.  We also need a really smart and skilled safety to general the whole defense...

I agree with you about the immediacy needs on defensive line. Hopefully we get some blue chip high school talent to sign (e.g., Hicks) and can find some transfers in the portal. The type of D-line players that Lanning had at Georgia are not easy to find/get, as every team is looking for those game changers.

If we can find secondary help or if the young CBs on the roster continue to develop, I wonder if Bridges could move to safety. He knows the defense and is a really good open field tackler but may not have the top end speed to play the outside corner spot at an elite level.

Transfer Profile: 5 things to know about Ducks' new LB Jestin Jacobs

Former Iowa linebacker Jestin Jacobs announced he was leaving the Hawkeyes

program and four days later, he was committing to Oregon.

It’s good timing for the Ducks as the linebacker position might be a question going into the 2023 season. Justin Flowe is

transferring out and there’s a good possibility Noah Sewell might declare for the NFL whether he plays in the Holiday Bowl or not.

Here are five things Oregon football fans might want to know about the newest Duck.

Biggest need on D is still at the edge, IMO. There is a reason why elite DL/Edge players are drafted so high. They harass QBs and make life miserable for OCs and easier for their DBs. Oregon's secondary woes this year were exacerbated by an inconsistent pass rush that put those DBs on islands all too often.

Think how KT altered games and facilitated Holland, Lenoir, Graham, VMIII, Breeze, et all to improve coverage and be ball hawks. Unfortunately there are few great edge players in the portal and only a couple in the 2023 recruiting class that would be instant impact players. Oregon needs to land one.

Watching Jacobs' tape reminds me of another fast and rangy LB that led the Duck defense not all that long ago. If he is nearly as good as big brother Dye, he will be a linchpin for DL and crew.

I really like the idea Bridges at safety, he's just not fluid enough to be a CB. His top end speed is fine, it's his transitions that are slow and put him behind quick WRs. In zone he sees the feild and can react but gets beat in man a lot.

We could definitely use a game changing safety like we've had for do many years prior to this year

That makes getting Matayo Uiagalelei a crucial get for 2023.
