Here's ESPN's Review of that Power 2 Conference Down South
Know Thy Enemy - Sun Tzu The guy in the Bama cap is (De)Bo(e)ring. 😁Another 4-loss season could see Kalen boring his way back to South Dakota. Bill Connelly's SP+ rankings closed with a whimper after last season's bowl games. Bama, after a loss to 5-loss Michigan, was ranked 4th. Ole Miss, with a first-round draft choice at QB, defeated a Duke team without its starting QB. This lifted Ole Miss to a 10-3 record and SP+ 2nd place. Texas, which I thought lost to Ohio State last season, finished No. 1 in the ESP+N rankings. So, take the below with more than a single grain of salt. 😜 ESPN.comSEC preview: Alabama, Georgia, Texas, LSU ... this confer...The SEC never lacks for talent or storylines -- and there's no reason to think 2025 will be any different.

Holy Crap! NIL Might Become the Subject of a Presidential Executive Order?
So let’s beat this dead horse some more. How is paying a kid $2M for his name, likeness and image, when less than a million people know his name, never see his image, or anything of his likeness? Everyone knows who Shedeur Sanders is. Even people who don’t follow football. How is some no name kid making more money than Sanders for NIL if he’s a no name ? I think this should all start with the proper definition ( legal?) definition of what NIL actually is. Perhaps the Supreme Court should decide. Whatever this is, I sure don’t see multi million dollar payouts as using a kid’s name, likeness or image.

Holy Crap! NIL Might Become the Subject of a Presidential Executive Order?
Though I believe the lawsuit will come officially from the players, as they are the injured party with standing as they are the ones losing the right to sell their NIL, I also fully believe that NIL collaboratives will be happy to pony up the money for the lawyers. Many of these collaboratives do love having an influence on their programs of choice. Are there some problems at play? Absolutely... But oddly enough I think the biggest counter to all this isn't just trying to sweep away NIL, but it is what becomes of the court base between Wisconsin and Miami. That case concerns revenue sharing and contracts that bind players to universities. Those contracts that players enter into as revenue sharing I should be the key to combating some of the transfer mania. If players break those agreements they should have to pay up on a major way, not unlike coaches who leave for another school. NIL needs oversight and limitations. Abolishing it entirely without something to replace it is going to be messy. Too many people and parties have NIL money mixed up and on the line.

When football players have more college stops than Madonna has husbands, you may have an issue. The Material girl has nothing on these youngsters today. Imagine getting two million dollars to sit and get a free education. Now imagine thinking that's not enough .

The Delusional SEC Mindset.....
That just chaps away at many SEC fans. It's a signal that the B1G doesn't have to bow down to kiss the ring. Pettiti isn't feeling pressure to settle because he's afraid of the ACC or Big 12 getting mad at him. He isn't afraid of losing millions, he serves the interest of the B1G. If the conference members are telling him to not back off this line, he isn't going to back off the line.

The Delusional SEC Mindset.....
I'm not sure, but Pawl feeds into the delusion because it's his core fanbase. He knows television isn't about reporting facts. It's about views. Love him or hate him, people have a feeling about him. Jo Bob and Delilah down at the Piggly Wiggly just buy into whatever they hear. I'm pretty sure they still think professional wrestling is a real sport. RIP to Hulk Hogan btw.

Canzano Annoyed at How B1G Commish is Fighting for HIS Conference
Thanks for the post, Charles. It's simple: the ACC and the SEC play nine conference games, and the football committee is structured like the basketball committee, using publicly disclosed metrics and adhering to the metrics for selection and seeding, and the B1G will back a 5-11 format. An inconvenient fact for the folks backing the populist 5-11 format and calling the B1G greedy for backing a format with automatic qualifiers is that B12 commissioner, Brett Yormark, has also conditioned the B12's approval of the 5-11 format on all Power 4 conferences playing nine conference games. As noted by Charles, like every other conference commissioner Tony Petitti is looking out first and foremost for his conference. Greg Sankey is not backing the 5-11 format for the good of the game. Wanting to have the same folks competing for the same prize playing the same number of conference games is far from 'radical.' This is the norm across every sport with postseason competition for championships. Having a conference schedule that gives half of the conference teams one fewer loss is not equitable, especially in a sport that subjectively decides the teams that will compete in the postseason. Meanwhile, Petitti holds the financial high ground, and Sankey and others' breast-beating will not change the B1G's bottom-line lead.

Let's Hear It for the Duck!
Montana has some potential. They could own all categories if they just opened up a cage and let a wild grizzly loose on the field during pregame (think Ralphie, but with a huge bear). They could also increase their home field advantage by keeping a live grizzly on a leash on the sidelines (think UGA, but with a huge bear). The opposing team would definitely be less focused on the game.

Canzano is the humor gift that just keeps giving and giving! Just when you think he can't be any more ridiculous, he proves he can be. Imagine a conference president that actually wants his own conference to succeed! Hey JC, stick with the Pac 2 and leave big boy reporting to others more capable.

Holy Crap! NIL Might Become the Subject of a Presidential Executive Order?
The Yahoo Sports site's take on the Executive Order is very much the same as David Marsh's succinct, spot-on post. The Order is a good attempt at trying to fix what ails college sports, but will it have any real effect? The SCORE Act has made it out of committee. If passed, which is doubtful, it would have the full force of law behind it. https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/breaking-news/article/president-trumps-executive-order-on-college-sports-heres-what-it-actually-means-001007183.html

Canzano Annoyed at How B1G Commish is Fighting for HIS Conference
I cannot copy the whole article, but John Canzano interviewed Big-10 Commissioner Tony Petitti at the B1G Media Days and I learned two things; Canzano is against what we want in the B1G, and is folding in "put-downs" of Petitti and the B1G in his article very skillfully. This was not a factual interview, it was an Opinion-Editorial piece by John. The other item? Commish Petitti is fighting for his conference...to grow the viewership and attendance--to benefit the conference members. Below are some of his quotes... He mentioned the scheduling disparity (with the SEC) on Tuesday, noting, “We have more losses in our conference because we play more conference games.” Said Petitti: “We’ve got 18 teams now. We need more teams in the playoff.” Petitti argued on Tuesday that having four guaranteed CFP spots would cause his schools, particularly those with a 6-3 record late in the season, to feel like they had a path to the CFP. That would increase fan interest in the Big Ten regular season, he said, and boost television viewership. “More teams feeling like they have a chance,” he said, “means more interest in our games.” Big-10 Commissioner Tony Petitti I agree with his statements, and would take it further; if we get four in the Playoff for certain, then B1G and SEC teams would be more apt to schedule high-profile, high-payout non-conference games with each other. It would create a juicier season, more interest in all the games, and it would grow the conference viewership and payouts to conference members.

North Carolina Football: Hey, Whatever You Do, Don't Look Over There. Just Don't
North Carolina football is practically an oxymoron. It's as blue as bluebloods get when it comes to basketball. Now they hire Bill Belichick, and he comes with a son, and a friend. But it's nothing, they just want to play football. UNC players -- Bill Belichick-Jordon Hudson pairing a nonissue - ESPN

Holy Crap! NIL Might Become the Subject of a Presidential Executive Order?
My understanding is that it applies with the force of law until the next President writes one to dissolve it. This was common as Biden wrote 160 Executive Orders, and Obama wrote 277 Executive Orders. Biden revoked 72 Executive Orders from Trump's first term, which again--is common. (Trump has written 171 Executive Orders in his second term) It does not solve everything, but I view it as a next step?

Holy Crap! NIL Might Become the Subject of a Presidential Executive Order?
Not getting political but as a high school government teacher here are the problems I see with this executive order. Executive orders are NOT laws thought they can be administered like a law. 1a. Who is going to administer this order? The NCAA? 1b. What realistic power of enforcement will they have? This is not a law, so how will it interact with existing State laws that do allow for NIL payments. Oregon, Washington, and California I know for a fact all have State laws that allow for NIL payments. I believe Tennessee passed a law last year to allow for even more freedom in NIL payments. Though not 3rd party payments, there is still the House Settlement that will complicate player payments. A lawsuit is certainly coming, most likely from players (probably with some support from NIL backers) because this would be a massive rule change for them. There are probably more questions that will crop up about this executive order but these are my initial thoughts.
