You're on fire Solar. WRs raising their hands is a great one. They're open too much for Moore to miss. So part of this will be Moore's ability to determine which side of the field to key on based on alignment. When a QB only has two seconds, he needs to read the correct side of the field. Throwing WRs open would help (for those unfamiliar with that term, it means throwing the ball to a specific area BEFORE the WR makes his cut. It also includes making the LBs and Secondary pay for always looking at the damn QB-by looking away from that designated area). I hope Stein uses RPO tactics to figure out how Iowa will attack the running game. Pass first and determine the blocking schemes to counter their strategy. I happen to believe Stein is reacting quicker to what defenses are throwing at him. I also believe Lanning was certain we could have lit up Wisconsin throwing the ball, but decided to show teams we will stuff it down their throats at will. I think Lanning is playing the long game-that he will start introducing this weekend. OBD will have to shred pass defenses in order to win the title. And I mean shred. Stein showed me lots in the Indiana game. He cracked their code, but QB Moore went into a shell. You were spot on Solar about Moore bearing the burden. I think he reads zone defenses fine, but he is gun shy. Moore will need to come out of his shell. He has decided to return next year (a very wise move since he is still learning on the job and the extra 12-16 games will make him NFL ready). My thoughts on him are he needs to pull the trigger like Val Kilmer did in Tombstone. He has to make quicker decisions, with unbridled confidence. That hopefully has started in practice the past two weeks. This team will ride the fortunes of Dante Moore. By the way, I also believe the offensive line starts blocking with fury when the freshman are in the game. They truly start plowing once they're in regularly. To me, that means Whittington should be used for passing situations far more often. I don't even care if opponents figure it out. They still will have to stop them, and I don't believe anybody can. Including Ohio State. Those are my thoughts on the matter. Slowly unfolding an offense that will rip you to sheds because they can is what I hope happens. I even hope the coaches simply tell the players it's on them, and that they have complete faith in their ability to pull it off. It's all about confidence, and let the process develop that confidence. Put the best players in position to kill it, and let em play. Do you think Stein will start pulling out the kinds of plays he did against Montana State?

Believe it or not, this is the first week Indiana would be favored against OBD according to Massey. Massey considers Ohio State, Indiana and OBD the 1,2, and 3 most powerful teams. Strangely, Ohio State has the 4th most powerful offense according to Massey, with Indiana 2nd and OBD 3rd. How about that for power rankings? Massey considers Iowa our biggest remaining challenge with the 10th best defense, and the 45th best offense (USC is 29th and 9th, UW is 23rd and 21st). A stout defense in conditions similar to the Wisconsin game will be a challenge for certain. Though Stein likes to establish the running game early and often, will he against Iowa? Iowa has a good blitz package, so QB Moore will need to shine under duress. What will Stein pull out of his sleeve this weekend? How will Moore handle pressure from Iowa's stout DL and LBs? I am not so concerned about the OL run blocking. I wonder what Stein will do to protect Moore. One thing I feel good about is how much I am starting to trust both Stein and Lupoi. I think this is on the players. This is a young team. Surprisingly, they have handled conference road games better than conference home games. I look forward to the next four weekends.

This is exactly why I favor Play In Games. It will clear the air for all P4 teams. At present, I would prefer 4 significant blowouts. That would shut everyone up. There wouldn't be an argument that OBD aren't qualified. I also hope OBD avoid the CCG this year. No need for the possibility of what might as well be a year off. I would prefer two weeks off than close to an entire month. The season needs to be compressed. One tradition I am all for is ending the season on New Year's Day. One bye week for the top seeds and everyone else plays the week the seedings are announced. Enough of this layoff nonsense. I believe this all comes down to how well Dante Moore plays. I've reviewed the tapes. Stein has been killing it (after further review- the call I made about Stein being too conservative has been reversed). Moore missed two TD passes in the 3rd Quarter alone. OBD should have defeated Indiana, and it had two score margin of victory possibilities. But that is what is wrong with shoulda, coulda, woulda. I am even getting to the point where I believe Lupoi is in the same boat (but he has talent gap challenges Stein does not have). It is time the players bring considerably more effort-physically and mentally. I currently believe DL and staff have done everything to get the team over the hump. It is now on the players. I won't be ticked off if they don't play to the best of their abilities, because I still am proud at what they have done to date. Let's hope they put it all together the next two and a half months. That's all we can do. It is out of our hands.

"Is it just me, or do we seem to have more player issues this year this early on?" I think it is the level of talent. The players you mentioned are probably better than almost anyone in the new upcoming pac12. They don't see a path to playing time, so they have already mentally and emotionally checked out. If you don't get to play, then practice is just a bunch of work.

When Theinemen was interviewed they asked him about Gronowski. With the 'delta' alignment that we have seen this year, it makes sense that he will be that spy for the Iowa QB. It is doubtful that Theinemen will be needed much to prevent them from taking the top off the DBs, who should be able to play a lot of man coverage. Stopping Gronowski on the ground will be the key to stopping the offense. Limiting his taking off with the ball, gashing the D, will be the priority in this game.

OBD may lose at Iowa on Saturday. Many higher-ranked teams have lost at Iowa. This means a 10-2 OBD should not be in the PO? I'm baffled by this negativity. A loss in Iowa City does not mean OBD will lose one or more of the next three games. Ohio State, 4th in the B1G last season, got into the field and earned redemption. At the end of the regular season, Ohio State was lower than whale feces on the ocean floor. Ryan Day? Dead coach walking. My undefeated Pats? Super Blown by a bunch of, except for one game, midget Giants. Google it, the G-Men won the Super Bowl. You never know. Just like you never would have thought the last third of OBD's schedule would see games versus three teams ranked by the committee and a bowl-eligible team. If you defeat me? If I have the opportunity, I'm getting off the mat and punching you in the mouth. The Playoff is a new season with new opportunities. A two-loss Ducks team with the right draw could make it to the title game and win it all. OBD plays in a conference that has the second-most teams ranked by the PO committee. As evidenced by last season's postseason record, which I believe will be repeated this season, the Big Ten does not suck! The push back this season, as evidenced by AP voters, in response to Petitti's PO plan, does suck. A two-loss OBD more than deserves a place in this season's PO. And an 11-1 finish will see OBD with a Bye or hosting a 12- to 10-seeded team. If Will Howard slides a second earlier last season, and Matayo doesn't intercept a pass late in the game in Madison, would a 10-2 Oregon have gone farther in the PO than 13-0 Oregon? Keep the baby, Faith!

"Most of the B1G conference schedule is a slog, and with the size of the conference and the way the schedule rotates, it would take 25 years before I had a chance of caring about Rutgers, etc." All it would take for me to care is one super fun and competitive game - like the Ohio St game in the regular season last year. In contrast to that, the recent Wisconsin game was kind of a lame-fest. The SEC has the best games. If the Big10 picks up some ACC teams, that could make it better. North Carolina, Clemson, Fla St come to mind. Oh and if they picked up Miami, that would be epic. Anyway, all I care about now is winning some playoff games and seeing how deep we can go.

We have built an offensive roster that is superior to theirs in the passing attack; with both teams loading the box, our difference can be through the passing attack, in particular with our veteran receivers, DAK, and Evan Stewart as a decoy at minimum. He will suck defensive attention to him to open up DAK, Bryant, Benson and the Beast. This is the game to establish and remind everyone that better recruiting counts. I think it's no turnovers on downs. Giving Iowa a short field is playing into their hands. Our punter is a stud. Let's give them a taste of their own medicine of a long field by punting on every fourth down outside of field goal range. Make them fight our defense the length of the field. We can't afford to hand the ball off to Whittington straight ahead on the first few drives for 2 yards a carry. Give him a wheel route, or other outlet routes if we think we can pass early. If we want to run straight ahead, it has to be Davidson or Harris. And don't keep doing it into a loaded box. If we find something that works early run it again and again until they stop it. I don't care if we are just getting 4 yards per bubble screen, keep doing it. Get them chasing our scheme instead of us running away from theirs. I'm so sick of us trying to challenge every blade of grass and seeing a defender beat us to it. I really want to see Stein and Moore evolve beyond their predictable weaknesses that defenses keep attacking. WRs need to learn how to maximize open space in zones and show their numbers, raise their arm to Dante so he is comfortable with making the throws then they truly are open. We're young and our weaknesses have been obvious. Let's hope we really took advantage of the bye week and come out with some answers to these tough defenses.

As I have stated in other threads, I believe both teams are going to try to shut down the run by loading the box, and challenge the other team to beat them through the air. I believe Oregon has a much greater skill set for doing that, even if Dante Moore makes some mistakes. Our receiver core is superior, and if you mix in rollouts and a variety of different passing plays, I believe that Oregon will prevail. There is NO WAY that if Iowa loads the box, and we load the box....that they will outscore Oregon. No way.

I think it has to be making them beat us through the air. Corners man up playing slight soft, with single high safety at most, and load the freaking box. Nothing wrong with 4 down linemen 3 LBs a nickel and Thienman peaking over the LBs shoulder attacking the run or spying Gronowski. Seriously, if B1G teams want to play low brow I'm gonna run it and your going to have to stop me then let's trust that is what they will do, and commit to stopping it. Death by 1000 cuts of 3.5 yards and a pile of mud is no way to die.

I actually liked Bamba more than most. He drove to the rim pretty well, and he was probably our best defender. Simpkins will score more than him, but he won't offer the same defense and he's also much smaller. Bamba could get a rebound as well. He's a very different player more of a combo guard than a wing. I would like Pryor a lot more if he had a shot, but he's a pretty poor shooter, but he'll provide defense and athleticism, he might be a very good cutter to the basket. Stewart is probably the wildcard, former 5 star, very highly regarded when he arrived at Duke, he showed a stretch in the game where he bullied his way too 3 straight baskets. Could be a very good player at the 4 could also play as a small ball 5.

Sure, they are known for that, but again--it makes sense with the weather and Dante being unproven that they will pack the box. Iowa lost to Indiana on a touchdown pass when it was 3rd and four and the Hawkeyes ran a "Cover-Zero" defense; no free safety, as he was covering the QB run. Thus when Seraat ran a slant and the corner slipped...he jogged in easy TD in because of no FS backing him up. So, they will run man-pass defense. On similar plays versus Oregon...I do not invision them dropping into eight man zones, when Dante has been rattled by Simulated Pressure-Blitzes recently.

Old news. This has been extensively discussed here already. He is ahead on the rehab since the June injury, and is available to play in the final four games, and the Playoff, but we do not know when he is officially returning. There have been hints on social media that it might be this game...if for only a few plays.

Oregon’s schedule this year did them no favors, nor did Penn State completely falling apart. I don’t think that we have to go 11-1 every year (although that would guarantee a playoff spot ever year, coming out of the power 2).

He could make millions and be a first round washout, like many before him. If he wants to be a successful NFL QB he needs another year (or two). If he can’t figure out pre-snap defensive disguises and zone blitzes/simulated pressures in college from the likes of Indiana (let alone Ohio State), how’s he going to handle NFL defenses. Dante has the talent but a lot to learn, which will only come with game experience.
