  2. I agree with you. Perhaps if he was in the box--he would see receivers downfield being missed. His reliance on the "check-downs" has become excessive, at least for this game, IMHO. Although an experienced QB would make him look better on the sidelines!
  3. The cost to replace Franklin right now is $56 Million Dollars. After the season is over it would be $48 Million. That's a load of scratch to fundraise in order to dump a guy. I would imagine that the PSU fans who want him gone are hoping/wishing/praying that he finds another gig on his own --- which seems like a long shot to me.
  4. Another name added to the list. Oregon State is fascinating to watch... Just like a train wreck.
  5. I became a Duck fan the day I was born (my dad was an UO graduate) and that will NEVER change because of on field performance. Win or lose, I love my Ducks (and I expect to experience a lot more winning than losing this season and beyond).
  6. Lanning's buyout is super high. I saw it around 50mil. In the case of Penn State they just paid Franklin 50 mil to go away... They probably don't have another 50 mil to buy out Lanning and then turnaround and pay him bigger than Oregon. Also I think Lanning has something built into his contract that if another program just wants Lanning to pick up the phone that is going to cost them. Beyond that Lanning isn't picking up the phone.
  7. Just remember the same people who laud you and give you the flowers first are the same ones who'll be the first to throw stones. Just look at Alabama. Look at Texas or Oklahoma. Heck look at Notre Dame and Ohio State last year. You know, the two teams that won three and four straight playoff games respectively.
  8. I think we are safe with Will Stein as well!
  9. He outright lost the lockeroom after the Oregon game. The team has absolutely given up on him and he on his team. They were basically at the point of giving up on the season and looking to next year. And they are doing that now but with an added coaching search. But who are they going to get that's better than Franklin? Seriously, he had a top 10 problem but until Oregon broke him he did beat all the non ranked teams and even the ranked ones he was supposed to.
  10. Good. One fewer game and a likely PO first-round home game, today AP-projected to be vs. Georgia. Indiana vs Ohio State in Indianapolis? Bring it on! Let two other B1G boys take a long nap.
  11. Penn State also lost their QB Drew Aller for the rest of the year.
  12. The performance of the offense was disappointing. The defense was not outstanding, but possibly good enough for a win against a fine Indiana team if the offense had played better. Indiana's staff and players deserve much credit for their plan and execution, but I agree with many others that Stein was not at his best. Specific problems: Oregon had some success running the ball, especially with Jordan Davison between the guards. These kinds of plays featured our best two linemen and exploited their advantage against lighter defensive linemen. Many recall that Stein did not stick with this approach, for no apparent reason. I remarked in the thread that OBD ran the ball into a seven-man box on first down early in the game, which predictably put us behind the chains. DL seemed to think this was a more frequent problem. I do not recall this being a persistent issue. Erik Skopil stated that most of the sacks happened not because of our linemen lost one on one matchups, but when OBD were beaten by schemes that were not foreseen or not countered effectively. This issue was not fixed, but grew worse in the second half. I have not coached or played one down of organized football, but I would think that the issues with the running game ought to have been apparent on the field. I would think it might be easier to see what the pass rushers are doing from the box. However, Stein may find it easier to coach Dante and Poncho on the field, and clearly some of that was needed. To their credit, DL accepted responsibility rather than blame his players (unlike some other prominent coaches we have heard from recently), and Dante accepted blame rather than cast it on his teammates. I respect them for that, and hold out some hope for improvement because of it.
  13. I sure hope that coach Cig stays at Indy. Not because of the possible PSU improvement, but because Indiana deserves it. Does PSU take a look at Fisch or Dilly?
  14. Franklin Fallout. ESPN.comPenn State fires James Franklin: Top candidates, transfer...After two shocking losses, Penn State is looking for a new coach. The job quickly becomes the best in this cycle.
  15. It's time for Franklin to become a college football commentator. It is extreme to fire this winning of a coach (heck, he's still .500 for the season!), with such a large buyout without having a plan in place. Tinfoil hat says they got a handshake from Cignetti's agent in a dark alley Sunday night, and I'm only half joking.
  16. I trust this coaching staff. Next week’s performance will be key. Get a solid win and they can build from there. Losing a top 10 matchup is much better now than during the playoffs.
  17. I will turn off some of the pundits after a loss... I don't need to hear the same things on repeat when they are mostly things I've already said. But just remember everything is still to play for and most teams need a loss to smack them in the face to improve. Right now I'm not so sure I'd want to be Rutgers as they're next up and set solidly in the get right game. Lanning should have this team fired up and realigned.
  18. I'm still in the room for Dante Moore leading this team, but I have 1 foot out the door. Why did UCLA Moore show up again? Was this the first time he's seen the same scenarios that he failed with at UCLA? Receivers not wide open, zone coverage, less than 5 seconds to throw? What was it exactly? It's like good Bo, bad Bo, the Dante Moore version. The good news is the University of Oregon, it's fans and Stein were able to support Bo to be good Bo nearly all of the time, but the bad news is bad Bo still cost us a playoff spot against Washington in the Pac12 Champ game.. It's a fine line between success and failure. I stand by my comments that Dante was the primary reason we lost this game, but he's our starting QB and has shown some growth. I certainly have hope he can learn to play better under these adverse conditions we are guaranteed to see in the playoffs.
  19. As a self proclaimed Ducks bandwagon fan myself for this year, I can safely say I'm not leaving. My loyalties will always be Florida first, but I'm firmly behind Oregon winning it all this year. Let those other bandwagon jumpers start doubting. It was a ten point loss at home to a top ten team. It broke an 18 game home winning streak and the first ever B1G conference loss(Rose Bowl was a playoff game).
  20. Ducks are still a playoff team with some time to work on the problem areas. If it weren’t for the expanded playoffs I might be in full meltdown lol

  22. An obscure insight into the obvious - Losses by one SEC team to the other do not matter. One loss UW, with its sole loss against No. 1 Ohio State, is not in the top 25? Why is No. 25 Nebraska, with its one loss being at home to Michigan, ranked above UW? Ditto all of the one-loss teams with losses to the team not ranked No. 1? 1 loss USC at No. 20? With the loss on the road by three points at No. 26 Illinois. SC is ranked behind a one-loss OK team; SC just blew out a Michigan team that was in the game at one-loss OK into the 4th quarter. The Trojans are behind one-loss Missouri, Vandy, UVA, and USF! USF defeated Boise and Florida. This equals a ranking above SC. Why? Tony Petitti - Do not back off the PO AQ format.
  23. I think they called Cig not Lanning. Or maybe they are going to save a buck by hiring away the UCLA staff mid season.
  24. I've thought it odd for a coordinator to call plays from the field. I kind of get it with Tish, since it's kind of a 2 man show with Lanning. But Stein runs his own show, and I just don't understand how you can properly get a feel for the X's and O's at the field level to properly adjust to what the defense is doing. And seeing that historically Stein's been bad at adjusting in game when the offense is struggling. I'm sure he has eyes in the box for him, but I think he needs to see for himself what is going on and have someone at field level getting dudes on the phone instead. I'm sure there are reasons and preferences, but aren't coordinators typically up in the box? IU's coordinators were. Curious on others thoughts on this.
  25. Sixteen days ago he was leading a team ranked in the top four. Heck this was meant to be his get well time before he got his second chance this year to be at a top ten team, potentially two. Times are changing friends. Ten years ago there is no way this many September/October firings. Mike Gundy and James Franklin were longstanding institutions with high levels of success. But investors are now involved in everyday activities now. They see a bad stock and they sell it right away, they'll take the initial big loss because they feel like a bad stock could ruin the rest of their portfolio. There's no sentiment involved. I thought Penn State being compared to last years Ohio State or that Michigan squad two years ago was inaccurate. Who did they beat? What did they prove last year? They still would've been shut out of the playoffs if it hadn't expanded. They played the two lowest rated participants. When they finally faced a fellow big boy, they came close but lost. Same old story. James Franklin has a 55 million dollar payout. Will he take a year off or will he coach again? Who is Penn State going to go after? I can see Oklahoma State or Arkansas looking at Franklin. I don't think Franklin would take either of those gigs. He's going to wait for a program on the level of Penn State. Penn State will likely look at the usual big names to see if they're interested. Guys like Curt Cignetti,Bob Stoops, Jon Gruden, Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Matt Campbell, Matt Rhule ,maybe Chip Kelly. They may look at Vanderbilt again. It's going to be interesting, they are the biggest shark out there looking. I think Penn State is actually going to be more dangerous now. They are super talented and have great coaches still on staff. I wouldn't be shocked if they put a scare into Indiana or Ohio State.
  26. On the outside looking in for the BIG CShip game. Run the table and maybe get a bye and no CShip game, or a home first round game. Win Win. As long as we win x's 6.
  27. Us grey beards have been hit with dysentery on the Oregon Trail many times, but it hasn't killed us yet. Now, we get to come back for Moore squared.
