But all of the USuC fans said he left because of Oregon’s culture problem and that he was coming home to be a Trojan.

Lanning Thinks our OL is Better This Year!
It's not how you start, but an entire body of work. A body of work where OBD went 13-0, the only P4 team to do so, and captured a B1G title. Both OTs were drafted, Conerly in the 1st round and Cornelius in the 6th. The O-line was a finalist for the Joe Moore, best college O-line, award. The QB the line blocked for was a Heisman Trophy finalist. Give me this, please, season after season. The Rose Bowl loss stings, but that was a perfect storm team effort from Dan Lanning down to the student managers, coupled with a since-eradicated horse bleep PO format.

Ryan Pellum lands at Deleware State. I had forgotten DeSean Jackson taking over as HC there.

New Group to Buy Trail Blazers!
One thing I can say about Tom Dundon is he’s not afraid to pay for high priced talent. The Canes have been to the doorstep of the Stanley Cup finals for a few years now.

Raleigh is ripe for a NBA team. It’s one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country and is a hot bed for sports. They would also draw many fans from nearby Durham and Chapel Hill. Also, the Lenovo Center is already decked out in red and black because it houses Canes hockey and Wolfpack basketball. My thought is Dundan will give it a couple of years in Portland and see how the revenue does. By then the parking garages will be finished at the Lenovo Center and making the move would be a bit more palatable. If a new arena starts going up in The Triangle then we will see the writing on the wall.

Didn't mean for it to sound like it was suddenly fixed vs BSU. But the effectiveness of the offensive line vs BSU in the second half was much improved over the first half.... Improved not good. They figured out who should be in the lineup. It took another week for that line to start to truly gel as they looked decent to good against OSU and then two weeks later against UCLA it looked good. It's a credit to the coaching staff that they could apply a bandaid like they did in the early season (and then later in the season with injuries) to make the line as effective as it was. 13-0 is super difficult and they managed to do it without having the strongest pieces of their offensive line available.

Preseason rankings won't even get you a coffee at Dunkins! No rankings should be allowed until at least after week 5. But, it is what it is. Starting in the top 10 is nice. It reflects DL's recruiting prowess. But this year's success will be determined mostly by how successful the QB position plays. We look solid on D and the O-line. The RB room is very deep. But we are very unproven at WR and QB. This will be a season where coach Stein earns his salary. Can he design game plans to let our qb's and wr's shine? That's my big question.

Jurrion Dickey Suspension?
Hard to avoid the conclusion that DL used the Q&A session to send a very clear message to Dickey: join the team or join another team. I’d say he’s not the first, and most likely not the last 5-star high school kid from a troubled upbringing to confuse the difficulty of adjusting and growing into a no-stars team member with a feeling of personal resentment and disrespect.

We had 350 yards of total offense, averaged 3.0 ypc, had 9 penalties, and were 33% on 3rd down against BSU. That does not scream out good offensive line play imo. Just sayin.

Well Idaho was pre-band aid where they flipped some players around. BSU they figured out the line rotation in the second half... But there were SOOOO many unforced errors that put that game in jeopardy. The Herbert fumble followed by the Gabriel fumble (on the recovery of a bad handoff) was 14 points right there that kept the game close. Neither were offensive line problems.

Lanning obviously thinks this Oline is twice as good. 2 really's for this year, just one really for last year. Seriously though in listening to each of the coaches interviewed the past few days, I have really (just 1) gotten the impression that they love the entire team, offense and defense. I did not always get that impression last year. Then again I always get excited about the team every year at this point in preseason practice.

And yet, have put together a MLB package.

Lanning Thinks our OL is Better This Year!
Didn’t need elite matchups to get exposed, struggled mightily against Idaho and probably should have lost to Boise. OBD patched it together, to go 13-0…but what does this say about the average B1G team last year? Personally I have little doubt this oline will be better.

And, buildings are being fire-sold which puts a damper on property taxes. Finding investment dollars in this budget climate will not be easy. If they don't, the team could end up moving after all.

I would say this group is stronger than last years. I think they did a fantastic job applying bandaids to last year's group. But the reality is that last year's group had some fundamental weaknesses that were exposed against elite defensive lines that could reliably get pressure on Gabriel.

Unfortunately, I don’t see Portland investing much of anything into the Moda center/Rose Garden anytime soon. Businesses have left the downtown core area, and vacancy rates in commercial spaces are at an all time high. The city “leaders” are faced with a $100 million budget shortfall. Replacing businesses that have relocated, or simply closed their doors will not be that easy. Good news for local NBA fans. The team is young and their potential looks better than it has for several years.

Oregon Ducks Practice Reports Updates, Etc. “2025” (6)
"Lopa has one of the best blends of size and range of any back-end defender in the country, and the Ducks have production voids to fill at safety," ESPN's Billy Tucker writes. "The No. 13 safety in the 2024 ESPN 300 had limited reps last season, but in the Big Ten championship game against Penn State, he was in third-down packages matching up with All-America tight end Tyler Warren. Lopa is 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, but covers ground fast with his long stride. He will come up inside the box and tackles soundly as well. In high school he played both sides of the ball, tallying four interceptions and 16 receiving touchdowns. Lopa will need to develop as the season progresses with his reads and recognition, but we project he will begin to reach his potential this fall." Oregon Ducks' Kingston Lopa named among top breakout candidates in 2025

I feel like Pancho is the key to this O-line due to Pickard being his backup. One injury to him and we get considerably softer up the middle.

My biggest hope is somewhat confirmed by Coach Lanning during the post practice Q&A: Q: How has the offensive lines pre-snap recognition improved over the past two seasons?Lanning: "I mean, we had a really strong group a year ago, and I have a really, really strong group now."
