1-0 Iowa after one inning. Oregon's Jason Reitz did not have his usual control to start, and between a plinking of a batter, he steals second, a wild pitch to advance him to third...and a sacrifice grounder to score him...some adjustments to the weather needs to be made. Oregon batters blasted fly balls deep, as the wind is at 20 mph, but as Coach Waz stated in the pregame interview..."it's a cold day." Thus, like the Michigan State game...when it is cold--the ball won't travel, and we need to focus on base hits, IMHO.

One Loss to Tennessee and Bama Hammer Wants the Vols out of the SEC? Greg Sankey should kick the Tennessee Volunteers out of the SEC BAMAHAMMER.COM An SEC without the Tennessee Vols is exactly what college football needs. Greg Sankey should take bold and extreme action, that if the Tennessee program intends Being serious, this law passed by the Tennessee legislature is why CFB needs Federal assistance to fix what troubles CFB and Men's CBB in particular. What good is an NCAA settlement if state legislatures pass these kinds of laws? Why are the Power 4 and the Power 2 in particular still under the aegis of a failed NCAA? Why agree to the same direct payment salary cap as G6 conferences? Why agree to a limited settlement agreement that settles nothing; that does not limit future litigation against the NCAA, conferences, and teams?

Better for OBD - No. 1 Recruit or Three Experienced Players?
30Duck replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I agree, Jon. 3 >1. Cantwell could be All World, but the Ducks already have "World" at OT, along with Harkey and proven stud, Pregnon. I say go volume with NIL, how many Heisman's is Michigan's 10M QB going to win? -
In today's college football, when do you drop out of the bidding for untested recruits when similar NIL money can be used to pick up experienced players from the portal? Roster management in CFB today is a witch compared to the NFL. A GM in the NFL knows what players will be available in free agency the following season and all of the details on these players' respective compensation. NFL GMs also know with certainty what a player drafted out of college will earn. There is a Rookie Salary Cap tied to where a player is drafted. Veteran players in the NFL Union had no problem with capping rookie salaries and freeing up additional money for the vets. Other than what a player's agent is willing to disclose to a given team, roster builders in CFB are flying blind in a turbulent world where there is little or no control over transfers, and what transfer players and recruits can be paid. This season's No. 1-ranked recruit, OT Jackson Cantwell, signed with Miami at a rumored $2 million plus dollars in NIL deals. The Oregon Ducks landed, and the Georgia Dawgs stopped barking, short of $2 million. If the House settlement is approved, every NIL deal $600 and over will be disclosed. Until then, I'm a Ducks fan who is flying blind when I estimate the amount of the NIL deal money needed to bring three O-linemen in from the portal. How much is Oregon paying, via NIL, to the portal's No. 1-ranked OT Isiah World, and tied No. 11-ranked OT Alex Harkey? Same question regarding No. 5-ranked IOL, Emmanuel Pregnon? I have no inside knowledge, but I believe these three needed players signed on with OBD for a total less than or not a great deal more than $2 million? Yes, all three will be gone after one season with the Ducks. But all three are experienced players capable of starting in 2025. No matter how highly rated, very few O-linemen are prepared to start their true freshman season. 1st round draft pick Josh Conerly did not start for the Ducks his true freshman year. Maybe Cantwell is 'All That?' He will start and play well against Notre Dame and Florida, and against lesser competition in the ACC. But for my, er, Uncle Phil and friends' money, and if my estimate is in the ball park, I'll take three experienced players for the price of one rookie, especially with only one O-line starter back for OBD. Agree?

I'm relieved that Curt "I'm a Winner" Cignetti didn't make the cut, and the "longevity" issue for Lanning is bogus, 35-6 is more than enough to make an assessment on his coaching abilities. I still maintain that Day is a Coach who does a lot with a lot, but often not enough. In my criteria, at the top I'd just rank the coaches on if I'd want them to be my coach. Kirby is a lock at No.1, moving forward, who looks better than Lanning? We'll see if Swinney, who has bucked the system the last few years can get Clemson back on top, fortunately, Clemson is sitting pretty in a basketball conference.

Two Ducks, Dante Moore and Evan Stewart, Could Fly Up the Draftboards. Pair of Oregon Football players listed as potential 2026 NFL draft risers DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM A pair of Oregon Ducks have been listed as major potential risers in the 2026 NFL draft as we head into the offseason. If Dante comes through with the help of Moore and others, he could have one year starting and then head off to the NFL. I sure hope he has the option to go or stay! 2025-26 will have a stronger quarterback class than last season. This, and NIL, will factor into the decision. If he plays up to an early draft choice level, he'll be duly rewarded with a direct payment in the amount paid to top QBs, with NIL the cherry on top. NIL is not roundly loved in CFB, but the pros are happy that it retains good CFB players who need an extra season of development with no cost to the NFL. -

An analyst I listen to, Walt Deptula, predicts PSU v Clemson in the Natty. PSU is going to be tough this season and should be within the Top-5 in national rankings through season if they live up to the pre season hype. The Ducks have the talent to contend for the championship though they are somewhat young and need to gel quickly into a synchronized unit early in the season. The game against the Nittany Lions at Happy Valley looms large on the horizon. Can the Ducks avoid being shot down, and propel into the championship conversation by defeating Penn State? Every game counts, but Oregon at Penn State in 2025 will be huge.

I think this matters most. At most you have a starting QB for three years. Nick Saban lost QBs, coordinators, and everybody else just about every two years. He was the cog, Alabama was the rehab stint for guys like Kiffin, Sarkasian and O'Brien. He was the launching point for Kirby, Locksley and MacElwain. Lanning is going to go through the same thing if he continues winning ten plus games every year and wins at least one big game a year. Who has come off a James Franklin coaching tree and been successfully? Joe Moorehead at Mississippi State? What big games has Franklin won in his tenure? 2016 when he beat Ohio State and Wisconsin to win the league. He didn't even finish that year off as he lost to Clay Helton in the Rose Bowl. Lanning had more big wins in one year and has as many conference titles as Franklin already.

Oregon Comes From Behind to Beat Iowa 9-6!
Charles Fischer replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Gritty Win, Ducks Rally To Set Up Big Ten Title Showdown IOWA CITY, Iowa — No. 5 Oregon rallied from a four-run deficit for a 9-6 win at Iowa on Friday setting up a battle for a Big Ten Conference championship on Saturday in Iowa City. Oregon (40-13) scored eight of its nine runs in the final five innings after falling behind 6-2 after five innings. Jacob Walsh led Oregon, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored, while four Ducks' relievers combined to throw 4.2 scoreless innings. With the win, Oregon pulled into a first-place tie with Iowa at 21-8 in the Big Ten Conference. UCLA also picked up a win on Friday against Northwestern to move to 21-8. An Oregon win on Saturday would secure the top seed in next week's Big Ten Tournament, while a loss would leave the Ducks as the No. 2 or No. 3 seed depending on the result of the UCLA-Northwestern game on Saturday. How It Happened: For the second consecutive game Drew Smith got the Ducks on the board in the top of the first inning. After Jacob Walsh doubled with two outs, Smith singled to right field, scoring Walsh for a 1-0 lead. Iowa (32-19-1) scored three runs in the third and another in the fourth to take lead, before Walsh cut into the lead with a solo home run in the top of the fifth. The Hawkeyes built on the lead with a pair of solo home runs in their half of the fifth, then Anson Aroz answered with a solo shot of his own to make it a 6-3 game. Oregon rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead. Mason Neville led off the frame with a double into the left-field corner before Dominic Hellman reached on a hit-by-pitch, setting up a Walsh RBI double into right-center field. Smith picked up his second RBI of the game with an infield hit off the diving third baseman's glove. Chase Meggers walked to load the bases setting the table for Ryan Cooney who laced a two-out, two-run double down into the left-field corner to give the lead. The Ducks tacked on two insurance runs in the ninth. Aroz reached on a bunt single and came around to score on a Meggers bunt single. Maddox Moloney, who walked before Meggers' RBI, scored on a wild pitch later in the inning. Ian Umlandt (6-1) picked up the win, tossing two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. He gave way to Cole Stokes who fanned three in 1.1 innings of work. Santiago Garcia got the final out in the eighth and the first in the ninth, before Seth Mattox came on to retire the only two batters he faced for his seventh save. Box Score Notes: Oregon's two home runs gave the Ducks 102 for the season, setting a new program record … Walsh's two doubles were the 58th and 59th of his career, moving him into second all-time at Oregon passing Gabe Matthews (2017-21) … Neville scored one run to move into a tie for first in single-season runs scored … The win was Oregon's ninth consecutive victory. On Deck: The Ducks will look to finish off a series sweep and clinch the No. 1 seed in next week's Big Ten Tournament on Saturday (10:02 a.m. PT / Big Ten Network). -
Oregon Comes From Behind to Beat Iowa 9-6!
EastBayDuckDad replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great Duck win coming from behind with a combination of big bats and small ball to come back from 3 runs down. My only gripe was pulling Stokes in the 8th when he had the number of the Iowa hitters and was in the groove. Garcia was a bit wobbly at first, then knuckled down and with Mattox, finished it, including a nice put out at first. -
Both Oregon and Iowa are now tied in the B1G, and even if UCLA wins their remaining games....they will be tied with Oregon, who have the series win over the Bruins-- thus the Ducks will be B1G Champions of the regular season IF they win tomorrow morning. (On the B1G Network) Dan Lanning says that "pressure is a privilege," ...to get to be in that position! I noticed that Washington won their first two against Iowa, but got killed in the third game. Beavis did the same thing, and had to stop at 6-6 in the third game to catch a plane. So the Hawkeye pitcher for their third game each week is good. It is RIGHT THERE!

Was that fun, kids! Wow, Iowa was set on coming back from the run-rule in the 1st game, and those back to back home runs, had me feeling down, But not the Ducks! Long ball and small ball gets the win. Player of the Game: Jacob Walsh

Charles Fischer replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Ducks win 9-6 with an impressive comeback over Iowa. Anson Aroz does a perfect bunt to get to first, and then he steals second. A passed ball by the catcher puts him on third. Maddox Molony walks, and then Chase Meggers does a first-baseline sacrifice bunt, but beats the throw to be safe while Aroz scores! A Duck flies out to move the runner to third, and a wild pitch scores Molony! This is a powerful team that can also play great small-ball with bunts, steals and heads-up base-running! Garcia gets an out, and the Seth Mattox has some drama, but gets the last two outs! -
