Things We Can Learn - Concerns About the 4th Quarter Performance...
In tight games, the 4th quarter can tip on adrenaline. Against Penn State, it was their panic-driven urgency that put them back in contention. In the last ten minutes against Indiana, we couldn’t match their closing energy surge, perhaps because of the price we paid being in back to back top ten games. Not trying to make excuses. Just see this as part of the learning curve for our young leader.

If they really want to show their disdain they must refer to Oregon as the team down south. They took the first step in getting Adidas, but that's a minor step imo. I would've tried Puma or some rugged outdoor company. Adidas is for European Futbol.

Can Penn State Still Affect the B1G Playoff Picture?
Any redemption arc for Penn State is dependent on a functional QB. Unlike UCLA they don't have a 5 star talent they've kept bridled. We'll have to see how good Allar's backup is, before seeing what their new ceiling is.

Cignetti Signs New 8 Year Contract at 11.6 Million per Year...With Indiana
I forgot about Bray and Oregon State. They should hire coach Klein and see if the Waterboy has any availability yet. So it's three coaches fired, two Beavers conquered, and one coach getting the money tree.

Sometimes Losing Is Winning
Last time I recall a team that looked let down was when we lost the offensive coordinator to ASU...Think players became aware of some news?

Things We Can Learn - Concerns About the 4th Quarter Performance...
This. "Complimentary Football" is a 2 way street. Half the reason I thought our defense did so well against Indiana despite their 30 points was because of how many possessions they had that they didn't score either. I believe we kept them to a really respectable points per possession metric, especially for them being Indian that can run up the score at will against most teams.

Duck Podcasts (12)
The No. 8 Oregon Ducks (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten) head east for a Saturday matchup against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-3, 0-3 Big Ten) this week. The Ducks are looking to bounce back after losing to Indiana 30-20 at home in Eugene. Last week’s loss was just the seventh under head coach Dan Lanning and the second at home since 2022. Oregon’s offense put up a season-low 267 total yards and ran for just 81 yards. The defense played a respectable game and did enough to keep the Ducks in that game. Rutgers on the other hand is back at home after a West Coast road trip of their own to Seattle, where the Scarlet Knights fell 38-19 to the Washington Huskies. The schedule doesn’t get much easier for them this weekend with a matchup against the Ducks. They’ll also face Ohio State, Maryland and Penn State this season after hosting Oregon on Saturday. The Ducks are the current betting favorites at -17 on BetMGM. This weekend’s game will be the first ever meeting between Oregon and Rutgers after the Ducks joined the Big Ten last season. ScoopDuckOn3’s Max Torres and Richie O’Leary of the Knight report preview and predict this weekend’s matchup on the latest episode of the Ducks Dish Podcast PODCAST: Previewing and Predicting Oregon vs. Rutgers With Richie O'Leary

Things We Can Learn - Concerns About the 4th Quarter Performance...
I think the problem is largely Stein being very predictable, he doesn't adjust very quickly, he gets stubborn in his philosophy, he doesn't set up plays very well for later, a great example of this is the lack of fake screens to open up the go route on the outside, we were excellent at this during the Kelly and Helfrich years.

Things We Can Learn - Concerns About the 4th Quarter Performance...
Against the only two 'real' teams we have played -- IU & PSU, our 3rd down conversion rate has been atrocious. Against these two schools, we only converted on third down 28% of the time. And although our fourth down conversion rate is an impressive 73% (8/11), it's just a dangerous way of living and typically not sustainable. We seem to be getting ourselves in a hole on first down way too often. Hopefully, this changes starting tomorrow.

Cignetti Signs New 8 Year Contract at 11.6 Million per Year...With Indiana
From 1995-2023, IU had 3 barely winning seasons. Since Cig in 2024, he will have them in the CFP two straight years in a row. $93 million over 8 years is a lot of dough, but not if he can keep them winning. And although history does not guarantee future results (we longtime Duck fans can attest to this), given their program history, along with the fact that I don't think they have a Phil Knight in their back pocket... Along with the fact that IU is on the hook for the full balance of his contract if they fire him without cause (and losing is not 'cause')... This seems risky to me... but everything has a degree of risk. Bottom line for me is if I was in IU's situation, I would have made the same offer. IMHO, prior to the new contract, Cig was just too damn poachable to not lock down.
