  2. As the calendar rolls over into October, the Heisman Trophy race is starting to heat up. The race for college football's most prestigious individual award has undergone another notable shakeup going into Week 6 of the season — including a new favorite to win the award on Saturday, Dec. 13, in New York City. Who are Heisman Trophy front runners after Week 5? Oregon's Dante Moore new leader
  3. One of the things I got from the video was the team breaking down the thousand cuts mantra by position group. DBs calling each incomplete pass a cut, offense calling each first down a cut. We saw how he prepared the entire team to focus on winning the small battles throughout the game one well executed assignment at a time. He knew PSU was too good to be taken down at home by a few big plays. The game was tied 3-3 at half and yet OBD was clearly winning the individual battles throughout the half. Lanning kept his players focused on their own responsibilities and kept them from being distracted by 111.000 screaming fans. Before the game, the national consensus was that PSU was going to win but they were wrong. I feel the video gave us a peak behind the curtain as to why and that's good enough for me.

  5. Thank you for that explanation Jon. So private equity will own a percentage of the brands merchandising? They'll have say so over which brand plays on a certain platform or timeslots? If Ohio State is deemed more valuable than Northwestern, does that mean Ohio State will be moved into more primetime matchups while Northwestern plays a MAC school? Seems like a slippery slope. What happens if the investors start interjecting and forcing Oregon, Ohio State, and Michigan into bigger matchups while Purdue, Wisconsin, and Minnesota get easier opponents?
  6. Put down that winter lawn fertilizer? Complete that final outdoor home improvement project before the weather changes? Costco it up? Take your dog on that hike you have been promising? Finally, unplug the toilet in that pesky half-bath add-on? Locate your old Groucho Marx disguise in the attic so you can “discreetly” purchase hemorrhoid cream? Or, just lounge around watching ... 7. A $40 billion valuation. $2 billion for 5% which reverts to the conference in 2047. The conference retains management of its own affairs. How does a 5% owner of a to-be-formed Big Ten Enterprises have the power to run and ruin the conference now or in the future? It doesn't. The goal is to keep the conference together and not have to look at partnerships with teams from other conferences to raise the operating cash to compete for championships. To have the money on hand to avoid draconian cuts to athletic departments and non-revenue sports. I, too, have worked with private equity businesses. I'm certain Tony Petitti has worked with private equity. They have their valuation experts, and so does the Big Ten. This has been a protracted negotiation. Petitti and his advisers did not fall off the last pumpkin wagon coming through town. They are not going to give control and the future of the conference away. How else do the critics of the proposed transaction plan on raising additional operating funds? The choice is the same choice every business enterprise in growth mode faces: incur debt or sell a slice of equity. The sports inventory has already been leveraged, and the Big Ten has secured the best return of all the competing conferences. The predicate, as Mike West noted above, that many people refuse to recognize: college athletics is big business. The B1G is the biggest in the industry. IMO, selling a small slice of equity for a fixed time is much more favorable than incurring long-term debt, and the goal of holding the conference together is worthwhile. A goal a conference commissioner should see as Job One.
  8. You are right. I have been overly critical. Maybe they will put together some more footage for a post-season documentary if we win it all.
  9. You never know what parameters are handed down to the editors of these videos. If we have to play these guys again we don’t need to hand them fuel, and matches, to light a fire. Personally, I thought it was solid content. It provides an inside look at the prep for the game. Most fans do not have access to practice, or meetings. DL stated in meeting, we will outrush this team when showing last years stats…great content. Standing in tunnel…Crowd…WE ARE…DL responds…we are about to get our butt kicked is what they are about to say…love DL. Intro music could have been better, but no additional theatrics really needed. They showed the pure raw emotions from players, and coaches after a hard fought battle. That is the main reason football is such a great game to play, and watch.
  10. I strongly disagree. I think they should either put in a good product or no product at all. I expect shows, productions, and teams to improve each year. That Team Out West, narrated by Tyrell Burrell, was pretty solid, and I think our weekly editions should meet that standard. At the very least. Like I said, it was just highlights. The target audience has already watched the highlights five times. There was little to no exclusive behind the scenes footage. I would not give any Emmys to this year's edition.

  22. I have to admit that I loved it. But then again I have loved everything I have watched this week, and I loved them all even the second or third time I watched. I have been a Duck fan going way back through all the bad years, and I can feel nothing but enjoyment for how everything has changed.

  24. 5 Oregon quarterbacks starting Sunday in either the NFL or the CFL . Nix, Herbert, Mariota, Gabriel in the NFL, and Adams , in the CFL. With Masoli only one play away from playing.
  25. At USC Bear was thrown to the wolves because he was really all they had. Add the hamstring injury to that pressure, and a transfer was all but a given. At Oregon, our well stocked DL room has given him the time and room to establish himself and find his footing, and boy, has he ever!
  26. I am reminded of a short story I read in high school some 71 plus years ago about a fellow who sold his soul to the devil. Didn't turn out too great for him. This deal is being promoted by people who will make a commission off the sale. I'm reasonably positive that the best interests of Duck fans are not at the top of their list of goals. Right now, college football and college athletics in general are in a constant state of change. Not a time to put your feet in concrete for the next 20 years.
