Don't Go by What You Read; Go by What You See on the Field
Like everyone else I was disappointed at how this season ended. We knew our offense needed a perfect game to win, and one play into the game that was out the window. I donate generously to the athletic fund, and school each year. However, as a realist, without Phil Knight’s generosity, Oregon is not on the national stage in football. I will attend games until traffic gets so bad on the freeway that it absurd to attend games from Portland…and that appears to be getting closer than a National Championship. As a fan i stand on the shoulders of other donors, coaches, past and current players, that really have put Oregon where it is today. Want and need are two different things. I want to see Oregon win a Championship in football, and am happy to see seasons where winning 13 games is disappointing.

Does Dante Moore Need Another Year in College?
He definitely hurt his NFL stock last night. In fact, I hope it doesn't kill his confidence even as a Ducks QB. He will need time to boune back, so playing against softer D in college may be the answer. However, college O lines also are not as good as pro, so who knows - if he managed to drop his stock enough, he may not end up with the Raiders and actually get better protection in NFL to make his throws. On the other hand, NFL is not dumb enough to miss his inability to scan the field and make good decisions. Would be interesting to see what transpires in the next few days...

GameDay Thread No. 3 of Oregon vs. Indiana
Smitty, you know I love you, my Forum Friend, but Nostradamus, assisted by Tom Brady, could have been calling the plays last night, and it would not have mattered. Cig put OBD in a blender and hit the Ice Crush button. We witnessed a Rose Bowl sequel in the Peach Bowl. "Blue Chips? We don't need no stinkin' Blue Chips!" Like Dan and like Dilly, Will and Tosh are heading to greener pastures. There is a tide taken at the flood ... Dillingham went home to ASU. Tosh is heading home to Cal. Will is returning to his home state, where he played his college ball. If there is fault here, the fault lies with the FUBAR CFB calendar. A calendar that had Will, Tosh, and Dan in the midst of a PO run, working to protect and add to their rosters. Curt Cignetti has had the same top drawer OC and DC at his side for eight-plus seasons. Curt and his assistants were coaching in the Little League. Cignetti's assistant coaches have both been given big (B1G) raises, but his coaches will inevitably leave for the opportunity to be a head coach, just like Curt took a huge pay cut and left Saint Nick and Bama so he could be a HC. Losing S-U-C-K-S. But OBD made one more PO step forward than it did last season. Danny and Ducks are on the PO title path, competing in what is arguably the best football conference in the USA. With an NFL PO reseed, Indiana should have played Miami in the semis, and Oregon should have played Ole Miss., hosting the games in Bloomington and Eugene. So it goes. Wait 'Till Next Year, when the champ game will be played in Vegas and the champagne will flow!😍

Want a Laugh? CBS Article Laying 18 Teams That Could Win a Title
Cig just changed the CFB game by his coaching alone. It's no longer about star ratings. Anyone with me when I say this - when he coaches in game and looks like staring, he is actually mind-controlling his players. That's how IU is so freaking good 😡

hahaha, I see what you did there. Mine says it too - but I did pick IU to win yesterday, by half of the points though ☹️ Agree with your 97% comment as well. We had been closer to the Natty twice before this year, so we still need to get back to at least that final game. As succucessful as OBD has been, it's just frustrating that we can't seem to get there. Being frustrated and disheartened doesn't make me less of a Duck fan. But having been a Duck fan for nearly 40 years does make me a sarcastic realist sometimes... We will heal and hope OBD and Lanning will sooner. Go Ducks!

Oregon Coordinators: Replace?
It was a good call that was poorly executed. If DM continues his progressions he sees a wide open JMac for a TD. I watched the video and the safety on the right side flew up to the line of scrimmage to stop what he thought was a pass to the RB. He blew his coverage and left JMac wide open. The safety on the other side had the deep half on Benson’s side. That’s why #5 jumped the route and picked it off.

Does Dante Moore Need Another Year in College?
I would put him right next to Herbert in arm strength. Their passing styles (college) are similar. Lots of zip and not a lot of touch. I would also compare SM with Darron Thomas or Akili Smith when it comes to reading defenses.

GameDay Thread No. 3 of Oregon vs. Indiana
That was a clinic put on by a coaching guru who schooled Kalen DeBoer and Dan Lanning back-to-back. One of the most amazing turnaround stories in the history of sport, let alone college football, will be realized on the night we celebrate the birthday of the great MLK, Jr., in the Heisman winner's hometown. Indiana is odds-on to be the first team without a Blue Chip Roster to win a BCS or Playoff title. This comes at the hands of a 64-year-old coaching genius whose light was hidden under a bushel at IUP, Elon, and JMU. Hats off to Hoosier AD Scott Dolson, Mark Cuban, and friend$, for making this surreal turnaround happen. Hats off to Indiana alums, Indiana has more living alumni than any school in the USA, who no longer have to ask, 'Has basketball season started?' Last night was an Indiana home game deep in the heart of Dixie. Indiana fans will flock to Miami, and I will not be surprised to see Hard Rock Stadium with more Hoosiers than U fans. Ticket prices are going for $3000 plus for the cheap seats. Over $10,000 for premium seating. One thing that I am certain of is that the better head coach will be on the Indiana sideline. Miami commits 11 penalties, many of them drive killers against the Hoosiers, and best of luck. Indiana will not beat itself. So far in the PO, Mendoza is bringing an on-time and on-target laser-like passing game. You can go home again, Mr. HeisMen-doza, and win the battle of Cubanos. Miami does have a Blue Chip Roster, but so does Alabama, which lost the Rose Bowl game by 35 points. Blue Chip Roster: Oregon only lost by 34 points. Kalen DeBoer and Dan Lanning did not fall off the last pumpkin wagon that came through town. Both men are, and will continue to be, quality CFB coaches. Another thing of which I am certain, Danno's teams cannot, other than for the test drive, finish drives in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. 😁 Come on, Hoosiers, break that CFB champion glass ceiling. Pundits and pollsters are coming around to the idea that the Big Ten may be a pretty good conference. A third championship in a row won by a third Big Ten Team will help with a B1G wake-up call. Year five for Danno is upcoming. Last night was part of the PO title process for coaches not named Curt Cignetti. OBD is just fine and will continue to win at the highest level under Dan and friends. Mario has his team in contention to win it all, but no way would I trade Dan for Mario. I found this loss far easier to take than watching Camden Lewis whiff on the chance to tie the game in Seattle. 🤬 If bandwagon fans fall off the OBD wagon, who gives a whip? Come on Cigs! Come out smokin', Mash Mario, and Crush the Canes!

He certainly needs more time. Time will tell if his processing capabilities have the potential to greatly improve in reducing time for recognition.

Does Dante Moore Need Another Year in College?
A sure fire top five pick or clearly not ready for the pros seems like a bizarrely wide gap. Personally, I like Dante and want him to succeed but I’ve never understood the hype. Where would you rank him with Nix, Herbert, Mariota, Dixon, Harrington , Akili Smith, Musgrave or Miller? Where would he rank with Musgrave Graziani, O Noel, Clemens, Masoli, Thomas, Vernon Adam’s or Gabriel. How would the Ducks have looked last night with any of those other options? Again I like Dante but I just don’t understand the hype.

My username says it all. Seriously though. I always thought this was something of a rebuilding year. The team outperformed my expectations by getting into the playoffs. I happy we made it this far. Doubly true considering the coordinators were preoccupied with their new teams and the long list of injuries. That doesn't mean there aren't questions to be asked and improvements to be made. What would it take for OBD to stay healthy through a playoff run? OBD has lost to two games in two years where they seemed out of their league vs Ohio State and Indiana. What are the commonalities there? Do people perceive DL as Penn St. did James Franklin --a great coach who can't quite win the big games? Why are we constantly lead by portal quarterbacks? What happens to the high schoolers we draft, do we improve our own? Do the transfers continue to improve once they arrive? Are the other teams more motivated (I vote yes to this one)? It looks to me like Oregon is 97% of the way there, but that last 3% is the toughest.

Oregon Coordinators: Replace?
Geoff Schwartz "My biggest wish for the offense under Mehringer is an expanded passing game. It's difficult to be built via the OL/run game while also having an extensive passing game. Normally have to pick one lane to major in but the passing game just needs new concepts and formations. It needs to have answers for the better defenses that we face. I am curious if there's another add to the offensive staff now that there's time to make those additions. " My add...I would just say that sometimes the limitations of your passing game is based on the limitations of the recognition and mental processing speed of your QB. If it is limited, or your O-line is limited, the play calls gravitate to short throws. And, against better defenses with good DBs that can stick with the WRs, that takes longer for the WRs to get open, and for the QB to avoid the rush and find them. more Schwartz: https://x.com/geoffschwartz/status/2010015034600980990

Doctor, Doctor, Mr. MD, what did I see that you don't see? T-H-A-T was a clinic. It couldn't have started worse, but hope abounded with Oregon's first impressive drive that tied the game. Then ... Curt Gignetti must have found a wormhole to the city Kandor on planet Krypton, visited Jor-El, and brought back a bottle of Superman Sauce to Bloomington, Indiana. A bunch of 3* players just blew out Blue Chip Roster Bama by 35 points and OBD by 34 points, and is on the way to breaking the BCR championship glass ceiling. After coming up Roses, Curt and Fernando topped it off with Peaches and Cream in a 'home' game played in a stadium that is Dan Lanning's Kryptonite. D-A-N do not go A-T-L again, please. In the Rose Bowl, Fernando had more TDs than incompletions. Last night, it looked like he had a laser in his hand. OBD's coverage was not terrible. Fernando's throws were on time and spot on. Kalen DeBoer and Dan Lanning did not fall off the last pumpkin wagon through town. The Duck defense schooled a Texas Tech team that was averaging 40 points a game. Last night? If Mario can defeat these guys with every advantage going his way, hats off. I watched Miami lose in Hard Rock Stadium to an average Louisville team. I saw Miami doing everything it could Thursday night to give the game away to an Ole Miss team with far less talent on both LOS than Indiana. Against a disciplined Indiana team, Miami will not overcome drive killing penalties. I won't be surprised if Indiana has an equal number or more fans in the stadium on January 19th. I know for certain that Indiana will have the better coach on the sideline and a QB better than Carson Beck at his best. I think the Hoosiers cover the 7.5. And you may hate teams wearing a Glass Slipper, but this game is Big for the B1G, and the Big Ten's reputation, a reputation that pundits and pollsters across the country are waking up to. Three in a row by three different B1G teams will halp seal the deal. Mendoza comes home, plays the team with the campus Fernando walked by on his way to school, and schools Mario and The U.

I have a hunch that Lanning will at least be looking into the portal for a QB whether Dante stays or goes.
