Chip is Available
In 2007 Bellotti grabbed him from obscurity in New Hampshire, and Oregon agreed to pay him $150,000 to join the staff. Imagine the $$$ that has gone through his bank account, including severance payments, from the Eagles, 49ers, and now Raiders. His coordinator salary at Ohio State was $2million, and his salary in Las Vegas was $6 million. He let UCLA off the severance hook by resigning but grabbed a nice salary. I don't really feel sorry for him that "things haven't worked out." Every night he should be making an intercessory prayer in behalf of Bellotti. At some point his guru cachet has to wear out?

Chip is Available
I actually thought Chip looked a little stale this year from the beginning, although in all fairness, he didn't have a tremendous stable of offensive talent to work with.

Wowsa. Pro Football Focus, (PFF) Said Some Wild Things about Our Beloved Ducks....
We had THREE subs out for five offensive linemen, and it was 3rd and two....where is Stein going to run the ball for two yards? We had inexperienced players on both sides and in the middle? So they call a gutsy pass that threaded the needle between the safety and another on a seam route? Wow. (Does anybody give Stein credit for that? Nope...only grief when it doesn't work)

Heck, if Stein leaves, I'd take him. Doesn't have to recruit much since the rest of the staff is so good at it. Plus, Chip kinda recruits just by being Chip the offensive guru, hello Dante. Kids remember the unis and Chip's high-octane offenses plus a Natty in '24/25, not his recent failure at UCLA or the NFL.

And There Goes Another: Cal fires Wilcox
Wilcox could always come on board as a defensive analyst while he rehabs his career.

Second season in a row Pete Carroll fired an OC mid-season. Even with a good roster I dont know how that is conducive to creating any kind of consistent offense.

N(ot) F(or) L(ong). If Penn State hires TOSU OC Brian Hartline, will Chip go back to his Day job? With Geno Smith as your starting QB? Good luck to the next man up. Pete Carroll cannot be at fault, right? Joe Flacco is still playing and starting at QB. There are 32 NFL teams, and many do not have an A-list QB. In a rather weak QB class, Dante will be in demand.

And There Goes Another: Cal fires Wilcox
Yes, USC QB Maiava, his two top WRs, and TE are all draft eligible. Harsin bombed at Auburn, and many Cal players took off rather than play for him. He was a strange hire. Cal GM Rivera named former Wazzu coach Nick Rolovich to be the interim HC. Cal is bowl eligible.

Jimmy Sexton is Lane's agent; every ounce of pressure will be applied to all of the players involved in this drama, and a number that are not involved.

And There Goes Another: Cal fires Wilcox
"(Cal) would any of their players help Oregon next year?" Some replacement conjecture that Cal would promote Bryan Harsin in an attempt to hold on to the Cal freshman QB. If he "goes to market" expect USC to make a QB offer. I think USC's current QB is draft eligible. As for Lupoi, he knows his recruiting style requires resources. Loving your alma mater isn't a resource.

They covered a lot of ground in that session. None more important than recognizing Dante's recognizing the Trojans defensive alignment, calling an audible that isolated Sadiq one on one with a linebacker. Then making a perfect NFL throw for a touchdown to Sadiq. Dantes' growth in this area will make a hugh difference next week and in the CFP. The line protection has improved weekly! Give Dante enough protection to go thru his progressions and opposing defenses will be in trouble. Go Ducks! The next Natty opponent is Washington.

Depends on the objective. Maybe he didn't plan on leaving ole Miss and this is all about leverage. Maybe he doesn't care as much about the end money but wants more resources. Let's get real. The money all these coaches are getting paid is more than enough to live on and leave a substantial nest egg for multiple generations.

And There Goes Another: Cal fires Wilcox
Sad thing about today's College Football is that my first thought when I heard about Wilcox is would any of their players help Oregon next year? On that thought, are any of the USC players ready to move up to a better program?

Lots of talk about Lane Kiffin going to LSU for the biggest paycheck in college football. How does one negotiate a contract with LSU when they are trying to deny paying Brian Kelly his severance pay? I am not debating whether Kelly earned it or not. It seems that LSU is not honoring their agreement. If I am Lane Kiffen, I have to ask myself, will they honor my agreement?

And There Goes Another: Cal fires Wilcox
If they get less than 8 wins next season he's out. Otherwise.... 2 seasons. Let that recruiting class become sophomores. He is going to have to kill it in the portal. But with Lanning and Cignetti around.... Portal hunting is even harder.

Probably would not have happened if Ron Rivera wasn't calling the shots in Berkeley. Cal looked awful against Stanford. Perhaps Luck at Stanford and Rivera at Cal should look in the mirror for the next HC at their respective school. UCLA, Stanford, Oregon State, and Cal with job openings. One third of OBD's former conference members. And how much more rope will SC give Riley? Next season, SC plays Ohio State, OBD, UW, Indiana, Penn State, and perhaps Notre Dame. QB Jayden Maiava, TE Lake McRee, WRs Lemon and Lane, and outstanding safety Kamari Ramsey are all eligible for the 2026 draft. No matter how good the 2026 recruiting class is, these guys will not be easy to replace. SC is far from a PO lock next season. This just in! Even when the PO field expands to 16 teams, 88%, 120 out of 136 FBS teams, will not be in the PO field. It only took Indiana 136 seasons to find Cignetti. 😁 And FWIW, I will go on record: Under James Franklin, Virginia Tech will not win a national championship and may never make a PO appearance.

All comes down to ONE big question. Does Lupoi want to be a head coach? I don't think he does, if he wanted a HC gig he could have had one by now and probably one that would at least be equal if not greater than Cal. He might take it but I'd be absolutely shocked if he did.

No "ill will" someone said? His defenses when DC injured at least 3 of our qb's over the years on questionable hits. I don't forget or forgive that kind of culture. Yeah, maybe a perfect Beavis.

And There Goes Another: Cal fires Wilcox
My sentiments exactly... I actually think he would do better there than CAL. Plus he'd be able to have his linemen score an inside NIL deal on the Wilcox Family Farm!

I won't give you the whole transcript, but below are some pretty big bullet-points.... --Like so many analysts, pundits and TV hosts have stated, they told us a couple of times in the video that, "when Oregon gets healthy, they're going to be scary." --Dante Moore had an astounding "90" score? They asserted, "he's an NFL quarterback, and looked preposterous against that USC defense." --"If Dante declares for the NFL Draft, I would take him as the No. 1 QB in the draft ahead of Mendoza of Indiana, and Simpson of Alabama between talent and upside." --Poncho only played 12 snaps in the game? We did that rushing attack with Pickard at center? --The Oregon offensive line received an outstanding 84 pass-protection grade, as Dante Moore was only pressured five times the entire game. --"Oregon is THE best pass-blocking team in America." --Oregon's defensive line received a combined 79 score, compared to the USC score of 49. "Oregon was better in the trenches." "Oregon's run defense was phenomenal." --"Oregon's defensive line was the most dominant unit on the field." --"Oregon's secondary did a great job with covering the underneath routes, as there were very few yards after the catch." Thus the run game, and the short passing game was shut down by the Ducks. Throwing the 50/50 balls was their offense... --Only two missed tackles the entire game? Whew! "One of the best tackling teams in America." Some Great Stuff and about 11 minutes is all...
