Is the 'Cig' ALL SMOKE?
I think Cig is much like Kelly back in the day. He's created lightning in a bottle, has a system that works, his kids believe in him and is getting results. Lanning's team resembles tOSU or UGA in that he has 4-5 star players doing 4-5 star things. I expect Indy to be better than we think, the score to be closer than we think but in the end OBD's relentless drive to seal the deal will be too much. I also expect some Autzen shock to have an effect.

Canzano Compares Noise in Happy Valley vs. Autzen...
Indiana fans are on their boards down playing the noise level of such a small stadium. The BIG will find out one fan base at a time I guess.

Is the 'Cig' ALL SMOKE?
Below is from another site, and gives us pause. Have we been fooled by Hoosier success, or is the 'Cig' that good of a coach to outperform? For those worried about Indiana snapping the nation's longest home winning streak, here are a couple of stats for you: The collective record of the teams Indiana has beaten in the last two years is 45-63. Of their ten wins against FBS teams in the last two seasons, only 3 have come against teams that finished the regular season last year with a winning record or currently have a winning record this year. Those include 7-5 Michigan and 3-2 Iowa. Indiana's talent composite this year is No. 72 in the country. Thats lower than Ok State and Oregon State. Obviously they are echelons better than those teams, but still. Dan Lanning has lost 6 games in 4 years. Those losses came against the No. 3, No. 25 (x2), No. 2, No. 20 and No. 54 teams in talent composite. The one outlier there is 2022 Oregon State. (Three years ago...) Against teams not in the top 25 of talent composite Dan is 32-1. Not saying Indiana can’t win or that they aren’t a good team, but if they do win, it would be bucking every single trend we’ve seen in Dan Lanning and Curt Cignettis tenures. Sucking that lemon is sour? Wait until you get to Autzen...

Canzano Compares Noise in Happy Valley vs. Autzen...
"...move the concrete perimeter wall further back?" My recollection is the stadium wall hasn't changed. However, there use to be concrete traffic barriers behind the end zones when there was more freedom of movement of fans using the field for ingress/egress. Those were removed when it became apparent, they caused potential for injury for players running into them on pass reception plays.

Oregon just teased the Ducks vs Them for the PSU game. DL's quote says it all (and sorry about the profanity).

Canzano Compares Noise in Happy Valley vs. Autzen...
I know I bring ear plugs with me to every game I attend in Autzen, and a set for any guest I bring. It is still plenty loud, but my ears are no longer ringing all the way home and well into the night!

Canzano Compares Noise in Happy Valley vs. Autzen...
Aaron Fentress also said on his podcast that he thought Autzen was louder and George Wrightster said that he talked to 5 members of the current team, after the game, and they all concurred. Everyone admits that it was a very impressive environment.

What Were You Surprised By? What NEEDS to be Improved vs. Indiana?
Agreed. However, if you add in the five 4th down conversions it means that out of eighteen 3rd downs, we ended up with 11 conversions overall. Not that I'd advocate needing to do that, but field position and yards to go is part of the equation especially if you are in marginal FG range. Also, if the D is playing lights out, sometimes you are playing with house money.

Canzano Compares Noise in Happy Valley vs. Autzen...
Yes, now that you mention it. As I recall, route running often required accounting for those closer walls, and there were some injuries.

What Were You Surprised By? What NEEDS to be Improved vs. Indiana?
As Jake Butt noted on B1G Today, Poncho keeping the O line in synch in front of that crowd was amazing. OBD's 1 returning starter on O came through! And how good is it to see 4* and 5* recruits showing up and balling out? As good as the pass D was, it will be going against a better QB and receivers than this Saturday. Man Handle Mendoza! Put that Cig Out! Dead Out!

Canzano Compares Noise in Happy Valley vs. Autzen...
Didn't they also move the concrete perimeter wall further back? It seems to me that it used to be darn close to the players.

What Were You Surprised By? What NEEDS to be Improved vs. Indiana?
Needs: While going 5-7 on 4th downs was very impressive, hopefully, going forward, we won't need to do that. It's also not good for my blood pressure. We were 6-18 on 3rd down conversions -- 33%. I realize these numbers are only from one game, but we need to improve on our third down conversion % from last week.

Oregon - Penn St. Post-Game Reports, Interviews, Etc.
Oregon is the talk of college football following their 30-24 win over Penn State in Week 5. The game was littered with great performances as quarterback Dante Moore led the Ducks to their first signature win with him leading the offense. Talk continues to get louder nationally that this could be his only season as Oregon’s starter. Head coach Dan Lanning learned a lot about his team, as they went into one of the most hostile environments that college football has to offer, and came away with the biggest road win of his tenure. The Penn State win will be compared to Oregon’s win over Ohio State last year, but it’s really not the same, because that game was at home. Canzano Compares Noise in Happy Valley vs. Autzen...
Here's what I know for sure... Autzen is just damn loud, and it truly is likely the loudest stadium in the nation. But I cannot imagine that when they broke ground on this place six decades ago, that they had any idea what they were doing in regard to noise. I had to look up the architects which is a company out of Chicago named Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, and they are still going at it all over the world. The design could not have been more basic and cost-effective. It would be fun if the architect was still around to get his take on this. The land that Autzen sits on used to be a landfill. They basically dug a hole into the ground, and poured in a massive amount of concrete and created a huge block and called it Autzen Stadium. Other than Autzen, there really wasn't much to the place for three decades. It was a solid, reliable, concrete stadium... that amazingly reverberated sound in a way I've never heard in any other stadium in my life. And, at that time, besides Autzen, there was nothing else out there but a massive gravel parking lot and much of it pretty much turned into a lake during the rainy season... and it seemed like there were thousands of seagulls around as well. And then, 30 years later -- and thanks in large part to Ed and Elaine Moshofsky, came the first college indoor practice facility on the west coast in 1998. And then, in came Phil & Penny Knight. And as they say, the rest is history.
