Barner and I dove into a whole lot in this one. We talked about Oregon’s true freshmen running backs Jordon Davison and Dierre Hill Jr.Davison has now scored 10 touchdowns on the year, the first Duck back to do that as a true freshman since CJ Verdell in 2018, and he’s chasing Royce Freeman’s record of 18 set in 2014. Hill has been electric with the ball in his hands and is average more than nine yards per carry. We also tried to dissect Oregon’s offensive inconsistency and how that’s hurt the team this season. What are the solutions? How can the Ducks get back on track? Lastly we addressed special teams, specifically the return game as we both agreed the Ducks could be getting more out of their punt and kick returns every game. I was also very excited to ask Barner about his transition to a career in broadcasting after he finish up his 10 seasons in the NFL. Not sure Oregon needs the fuel to kick the bricks off Iowa, as a second loss would cost Oregon a home playoff game. It would also take them out of B1G Title contention. But if you want a reason to dislike Iowa, because what's there to really dislike about them otherwise. They play hard, and have been pretty clean off the field. Their DC Phil Parker was asked about the strengths of the Ducks offense, and he threw out the "Well Funded" line that Mike Gundy seemed fixated on. Why you gonna do that Phil? The Ducks were probably going to sleepwalk on Saturday. But now after that ugly Wisconsin game, and now this. They are about to put your feet to the fire.

Grandpa, thanks for the post. If it all comes together, the Ducks can finish 11-1. It hasn't been easy to get 14 new starters to bring 'IT' to the field with the same attitude and cohesiveness every week. The defense's pick-six gave OBD a shot to win the Indiana game, but the defense was unable to prevent Mendoza from driving the Hoosiers 75 yards and a TD for the winning points. The defense also folded in the 4th quarter at Penn State. They are subs, but the subs on defense were duds in the 4th quarter of the Northwestern game. If the PO committee truly starts from scratch, which I doubt, three of the final four regular-season games should be against teams, Iowa, SC, and UW, all in the top 25 on Tuesday night. OBD needs this because heading into the bye, the best win on paper is against 5-3 Northwestern. OBD's QB is untested, especially compared to Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel. However, QBs with the same or less experience and lesser supporting casts are lighting it up across the country. I am not an Xs and Os guy, and more than welcome being corrected if I am off base, but last season's starters at tackle on offense are both in the NFL. 6th round draft choice Cornelius Ajani with the Cowboys, and Josh Conerly starting for the Commanders. Their replacements have not played at the same level, and the play-calling does not seem conducive to helping them out. D-tackles Caldwell and Harmon are also in the NFL, and both are contributing to their team's effort. Has not having these two guys on the field led to the disappearance of Maytayo U and Tuioti? Still, it's a one-loss team with a good chance of going 4-0 and being a high seed in the PO field, but three of the opponents today are playing better than many thought they might before the start of the season. (I'm not surprised that USC and UW are competitive, with only two losses, and both could be ranked when they play Oregon. I wasn't as certain about a two-loss Iowa team that has two 'good' losses.) Compared to the other Power-2 conference, and according to the Coaches and AP Polls, wins in the B1G just mean less, and the losses just mean more. Will the PO committee follow suit? Not arguing, but actuaries worth a nickel, could have explained to the Oregon state legislature that the old tier one PERS program, that they “enhanced” with unrealistic guarantees, was unsustainable long term. The matching is not restricted to what an employee deposits into the program. The matching is actuarily calculated each year for each participating employer in the state. It is based upon actuary tables that project payouts, and calculates investment value required to maintain those payouts. To keep a program within legal funding guidelines, in an economic downturn, employers can be forced to make deposits well in excess of employee contributions (that burden does impact tax payers). Which is what happened from around the dot.com bubble, until approximately 2012. The PERS program has undergone major changes to reduce some of these problems in the event of future economic downturns.

Yeah, I'm not sure Onio State is that far ahead of everyone else. They look really good, but so does Indiana. Something I haven't heard anyone mention at this point is the toughness of the Big 10 schedules. Oregon has 6 of the (at least present) top ten B1G teams on their schedule, Indiana 3 and Ohio State only 2. I think maybe the Buckeyes are still living off of their season opening win over then #1 Texas, that hasn't proved to be all that good as the season has gone on. All of the teams have some flaws.

Pitt is on a roll, winning four games in a row behind QB Heintschel for a 6-2 record, 4-1 in the ACC. And Coach Narduzzi's defense is once again salty, 27th in total defense. Like the offense, the defense is much improved over the last four outings. The schedule sets up perfectly for a Panthers PO push: Saturday at Stanford Then, after a buy on November 8th, Pitt has a chance to shake up the CFB playoff. November 15th vs. No. 12 Notre Dame - this looks to be the toughest remaining game on Notre Dame's schedule. November 22nd, at No. 8 Georgia Tech - Ready for a slobber knocker? November 29th vs. No. 10 Miami - The Canes were ahead of Syracuse last year before blowing a 21-point lead, dropping the final regular-season game to the Orange, and missing the PO. And the Syracuse game was played indoors. 😁 Thanksgiving weekend, you can count on Three Rivers Stadium being windy and cold. TCB vs. Stanford, which is decent at home, and win the final three games against top 25 opponents, and Pitt is PO-bound with the possibility of hosting a 1st round game. I don't think there are many Oregonians who feel former State employees shouldn't have a pension, if they became eligible while private industry had pensions. But, when private industry dropped pensions and went solely to 401K's that should have ended it. Likewise, private industry pensions for employees are based on a much more modest calculation of average of final wages. At the point the person retires, it is frozen. No increases in benefits after retirement date. When a PERS eligible retiree can have a pension that is over 100% of his final pay, while a similar tenured private employee remains frozen at 30-35% of his/her final salary, there is seriously something wrong. Especially when cities, counties, school districts, and the State have to keep allocating money from their budgets to fund it instead of city services, county law enforcement, education of kids, and public health. Similarly, the increase of "potential sources of investment" do not rise fast enough to offset the exorbitant benefit growth. So, taxpayers have to make up the difference via reduced public budgets for services or increased taxes/fees, or both. SAIF premiums could be used for other purposes than exorbitant retirement benefits.
