  2. Straight line speed is for more important for CBs and Stars than for safeties. There are several safeties in the NFL who run 4.7-4.8 but have the instincts and ball skills to make up for it. Plus, I suspect that after a year of strength and conditioning Woodyard will be running in the mid to low 4.6s. I trust Georgia's and Saban's Alabama evals of Woodyard and will stand on my earlier comment. I think you'll be glad you have him.
  3. I still recall my first post on the OBD forum about how you would come to love Dan Lanning. Your comments tonight make me realize how I hadn't really stuck my neck out at all. I am overjoyed that Lanning has far exceeded my initial expectations, and the best part is that he is just getting started. Yes, indeed, you've hit the jackpot!
  4. I'd love Oregon to do a yellow out. Highlighter yellow at night! You know that would be epic and we all know it. It would also give us a little B1G flare.
  5. Not a starting group but biggest position of need? Back-ups on the OL. Extremely good fortune with the injury bug on the OL and really a pretty tight rotation the whole season. Strother came to the UO with a lot of snaps under his belt but never gained much traction, playing 55 snaps last year, almost half of them in the ASU game. I think he might be the first call at either guard position (but didn't hear much buzz tied to Nishad this spring). I guess the backups at LT and RT are Kawika Rogers who played 96 snaps at RT and George Silva 51 snaps at LT. Charlie Pickard probably is one the two deep at center with 68 snaps and 53 at center (the only other non-starting OL name I can really recalling hearing this spring other than Pickard was Lipe Moala). With 14 games (and at least 7 that were pretty comfortable) that's not a lot of guys getting snaps. Stay healthy guys. It will be interesting to see if anyone breaks into the OL rotation. Gonna be a big portal priority next year as it isn't outside the possibility Poncho is the only returning OL starter. Maybe not the time to think about such things really; but, this will be be a pretty veteran team. It's not entirely crazy to suggest Oregon might return the fewest amount of starters in 2025 I can recall in 30+ years (especially if a couple guys like Stewart and James break out and Conerly decides to test the NFL waters). Maybe something as small as 4 or 5 and even possibly as few as 2 or 3. WR: senior WR: senior WR: junior (but could possibly declare) TE: senior QB: senior RB: junior (but could possibly declare) OL: senior OL: senior OL: sophomore OL: senior OL: junior (but very possibly could declare) DE: senior DT: senior NT: senior EG: sophomore LB: senior LB: senior CB: senior CB: senior* FS: senior SS: senior NB: senior (* Not counting Florence as it sounds like he may not be recovered until into the season)
  6. David, That's great! OBD owe Penn State a really good "game" as a return memorial gift from the '94 Rose Bowl. We should be ready to weather a "white out" (all their fans wear white and bring white pom-poms) at their home in Happy Valley (or whatever the town is) in West Central PA. VR, KCDuck1
  7. As with most lists, entirely subjective. DL has only 2 years to look at. 5 losses, 3 to the same team. All but 1 by 4 pts or fewer. In a couple years it will become obvious even to the B1G pundits that we have the best coach. In the meantime, let them underestimate us. Coach Lanning is building a dynasty.
  8. Even the top 4 seeds with a 1st round bye will play two games before making it to the champ game. The title game would be the third game. The champ game for the 2024-25 season will be played in Atlanta on January 20, 2025. For the teams seeded five through twelve, the champ game would be the 4th playoff game. For a team seeded 5 through 12 which played a conference champ game and lost, the game for the championship would be the 17th game of the season.
  9. The longer Coach Lanning and his family stay in Eugene and establish deep roots in the community, the more likely he’s going to stay long term. Similar to Coach Bellotti who reportedly turned down some blue bloods (e.g., USC, tOSU) to stay in Eugene because he didn’t want to uproot his family.
  10. I agree that the conference champ games should be eliminated. One negative about the expanded playoff is that it can add two additional games to players' seasons. College football is a real grind and players' bodies take a tremendous pounding which accumulates throughout the season. Conference champs get a first round bye, but the losers of the champ game just get another game, and more bruises and injuries. One could argue that finishing third in the B1G and making the playoff but missing the B1G champ game gives a team a better chance to get to the national championship game. I haven't really thought this out and maybe getting a higher seed is more is worth playing an extra game. Of course winning the championship is winning the championship -- everyone will undoubtedly want a shot to get a ring.

  15. Most years, the regular-season finale between Ohio State and Michigan is in the mix. The annual rivalry dubbed The Game for its elite potential, the Buckeyes and Wolverines traditionally face off for the highest of stakes. This time around, the Big Ten is poised to produce another game of the year for college football, but the annual rivalry showdown could take a backseat to one matchup. 17. Big Ten post-spring power rankings: Ohio State over Oregon for No. 1, USC lands in top five - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Here's how teams in the Big Ten stack up now that spring practice is in the rearview mirror We are Avis. We try harder. No surprise to see the Oregon O behind the Ohio State O. This is the case in every ranking I have seen to date. Puddles will have a 'Show Me' chance on October 12, 2024. SC at No. 5 is my dark horse B1G champion contender and this ranking does not surprise me. With Penn State playing SC in LA and the turnover on offense at Michigan, I think SC could have been No. 3 on the list. I know that many OBD members understandably, disagree with my opinion of SC.
