  1. As long as the PAC 12 doesn’t follow suite with a long term GOR like the ACC and Big 12…. Inside the Big 12's 'ironclad' grant of rights contract that helped keep the ACC together amid turbulence - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM How a seemingly unbreakable document has kept two leagues largely together during realignment
  2. Wonder if there is any truth to this? SW AIM SHOW@GSw aim · 9h BREAKING: Every school in the #Pac12 was made aware on Monday that their Final TV package will be roughly $20M per team, which is far below the #Big12 and $5M below the minimum number that most of the P12 teams wanted to stay. But WAIT...there's more. (1/2) SW AIM SHOW@GSw aim · 9h (2/2) The #B1G will take in the #Ducks and #UDub if any of the #Pac12 schools leave for the #Big12. I can neither confirm or deny that they'll take #Stanford and the #CalBears, but certainly checkibg.
  3. No matter what the B1G media rights deal is, USC and UCLA are not coming back to the PAC 12. 1. USC and UCLA joined the B1G *before* the media rights deal was finalized. 2. USC and UCLA signed away their media rights to the B1G for the duration of the next B1G media rights contract. There would be litigation if either school tried to back out. But why would they even think of backing out? They are in the promised land that we can only hope to be in soon. They don't have to worry about not being part of the national conversation because no one is watching their games. Outside of sports, the academic and research benefits of the B1G go without saying.
  4. If you look at what isn’t finalized, it’s nitty gritty things. No reason it wouldn’t be finalized by July 1. A lot of it is silly things - going against no night games in November. I saw where that issue was resolved. Not sure why it was such a big deal as high schools in the Midwest play night games in November. It was reported back in 2020 that the B1G would have to pay back money for weeks the B1G did not play during the 2020 Covid shortened season. The B1G played more games that season than the PAC 12 did, so I’m wondering how much the PAC owes its media partners for not playing a full season that year? Has it been paid back yet? Then you have butt-hurt basketball coaches having some basketball games only available via streaming. If you are a top performing basketball program, I’m sure the game will be on linear tv. Now what is a serious mistake was Warren promising a B1G Championship Game to NBC that FOX already had rights to. It will be interesting to see how that is worked out, but I’m sure it will be. Having said all that, now we have a broader understanding as to the animosity B1G leaders had toward Kevin Warren. He went against the unspoken B1G rule of gathering consensus before acting. His style seems to be the “what I say goes” style and the B1G is a traditionally collaborative and consensus building conference.
  5. I don't think having a different AD in place would have changed the outcome of USC to the B1G. College athletic powers are consolidating. This is bigger than any one person. IMO USC would be smart to have a former B1G person as their next AD. Someone who can help bridge the Trojans into the conference, similar to what UCLA has with Martin Jarmond and his roots at Ohio State. Creep or not, Bohn did have a significant impact on the Trojan athletic department in his short tenure.

  10. Neither the B1G or SEC have ever added more than 2 schools at a time. The B1G may not destroy the PAC 12 out of a fear of a lawsuit. Take USC and UCLA now and then let the conference stabilize. Take Washington and Oregon later and then let the conference stabilize once more. Yes, it destroys the PAC 12 in terms of value, but it gives the conference a chance to stay alive and add lesser members. If the B1G added Oregon and Washington right now, the PAC 12 would be totally destabilized. Would there be a fear of a collusion lawsuit if they were added right now? I see this playing out…USC and UCLA are integrated into the conference. Near the end of the new media rights agreements at the end of the decade, the B1G adds Oregon and Washington. After they are integrated into the B1G, the ACC GOR is near its end and it’s time for the B1G and SEC to poach the ACC. Meanwhile, the PAC will add SDSU and SMU now. After stabilization, when Oregon and Washington leave, Tulane Rice, Fresno State, Boise State, UNLV and Colorado State all set their sights on a PAC 12 invite. The wildcards are Stanford and Cal. Does the B1G want them? Do they go independent? Do they stay in the PAC and keep the 4 Corner Schools in the PAC with them?
  11. The attractiveness of Miami for the B1G would be location. The B1G needs better representation in the top football recruiting hotbeds in the country. They just added California, the 4th top football recruiting state. The top 3 are: Texas, Florida, Georgia. The best Texas can offer is TCU and Baylor, so I don’t see any hope of the B1G going into Texas. But, Georgia Tech, Florida State and Miami are there for the picking. The SEC might be interested in FSU as well, but I doubt the SEC wants Georgia Tech and Miami. Both schools are in large media markets with fertile recruiting territory the B1G needs.
  12. Makes sense. In addition to Oregon, Washington, UNC, Duke and Georgia Tech, I think these seven schools have a shot at the B1G: Notre Dame, Stanford, Cal, Miami, Florida State, Clemson, Virginia. Not all of them will be added, but I think these are the only 12 schools that have any hope of inclusion into the B1G.
  13. I’m surprised they would drop cable tv cold turkey. This will cause them to lose viewers from the casual fan - the fan who watches a big game now and then, but would never actively seek out a paid subscription for the content. The reason why big games have big ratings is due to the number of casual fans watching. Even when the day comes that everything is online, we are not all purchasing the streaming services offered by everyone. At least with cable, it’s all bundled together for one monthly price. Losing that will mean the end of casual fan viewership.
  14. The top brands in the PAC and ACC will be in the B1G or SEC within the next decade. The schools remaining wouldn’t be viable enough to maintain a hypothetical Atlantic/Pacific conference.
  15. This is another reason why we need to join the B1G. When we inevitably have to pay student athletes, we need to be in a conference that provides the proper amount of revenue to do so. Otherwise, we will lose recruits to schools like Rutgers and Mississippi State because they can pay them more than we can.
  16. I don’t think any commissioner could have prevented USC and UCLA from jumping ship. That was out of GK’s control. What is under GK’s control is his reaction to the fallout and I have been disappointed in everything that has happened since. GK lost control of the messaging and made critical mistakes. How many of those mistakes were his vs. the conference presidents and athletic directors, that is up for debate. The PAC could have signed a media rights deal with ESPN equal to the Big 12 deal last fall and chose not to under the assumption the PAC was worth more. Now, we will be lucky to even end up with a deal equal or close to the Big 12. The PAC could have aggressively pursued expansion last fall. Instead, GK ranted about UCLA losing money (yeah right) in the B1G and hoped for an unrealistic outcome of the California BOR preventing UCLA from moving to the B1G. Several months were wasted on that. Not once did I think UCLA was staying in the PAC. Meanwhile a narrative formed nationwide regarding the PAC. Unprecedented negative media coverage. We are only 1.5 months from the one year anniversary of USC and UCLA announcing their move to the B1G. GK still has not gained control of the narrative.
  17. The only reason the PAC didn’t expand in 2021 is because the USC President shot it down as a non-starter. All the while knowing USC was headed to the B1G. Expansion would have required extending the GOR that was set to expire in 2024, the year USC was looking to make a jump to the B1G.
  18. Iowa defeated Kentucky 21-0 in the Music City Bowl. Georgia defeated Ohio State 42-41 in the Peach Bowl/CFP Semifinals LSU defeated Purdue 63-7 in the Citrus Bowl. Those were the only 3 games the SEC and B1G played each other. 1 dominate SEC win 1 dominate B1G win 1 SEC win that came down to the last play of the game
  19. I was able to read it without a subscription. If you can’t read it, it says the B1G is considering 3 scheduling models: 3 permanent rivals, two permanent rivals, and a flexible option where different teams would have different numbers of permanent rivals.
