  1. Well, as an Oregon fan, I would rather be part of the rumor mill for transfers, or "6 teams I'm considering" for recruits, than the alternative. That being said, other programs are not just going to genuflect when Oregon, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, etc. are mentioned. They are going to keep recruiting right up to signing day with their own energy and showcasing their own staffs and assets. Aside, from perhaps Alabama, no program can tap a kid on the shoulder and be guaranteed getting him. Even Alabama has a kid flip from time to time. So, as fans, we need to recognize our favorite program is not going to get all the high profile guys mentioned. There IS competition out there. As a result, I try not to get either super high or low when results come in. Kids are kids. Different things motivate them in making final decisions from geography to coaches to uniforms to.... and even they follow the rumors of whom they might have to compete with for a starting role.
  2. A one and done? Caleb Williams 2022: 333 of 500, 4,537 yds, 42 TDs (11-3 team) 2023: 266 of 388, 3,333 yds, 30 TDs (7-5 team) Would any USC fan be unhappy if Williams had been one and done?
  3. LaMike, Barner and Dye were 3 great ones within a very short period of Duck history. Obviously J. Stew and Royce also, but those 3 based on size were fantastic RBs.
  4. FSU rep says put away the tin foil hat theories....both Orange Bowl head coaches found the media availability meeting on Thursday inconvenient due to recruiting. Probably makes sense based on the numerous photos that have been posted in the last day or so of Lanning making home visits. All these coaches are on the road to lockdown verbal commits and try to sway others.
  5. "Buy a package to go to the Fiesta Bowl or spring for football season tickets." Hmmm, the Gordian Knot. Something that a true Ducks fans should never be asked to encounter. Have you considered going to the Fiesta Bowl to meet a new spouse who would accompany you next Fall?
  6. Colorado had announced they were leaving. The day prior to "the Pac12 meeting" Arizona had a deal with the Big12 that was on "secret-hold" until they saw the Pac12 deal. The Big Ten found out about Arizona and re-engaged with UW and Oregon the night before the meeting. (I think they called UW first). Arizona jumped into bed with the Big12 after they saw the Pac12 "skinny" offer - it was like a speed dial call after UW/UO said they were going. UA knew they were getting more with the Big12 and Yormark than the Pac9 and didn't hesitate. ASU and Utah followed quickly after seeing the Pac offer, as well. That left Cal, Stanford, OSU and WSU. Yormark said "uh, no thank you."
  7. Oregon > Texas Tech > Louisville. Would love to see him get one injury free season to finish his career. Good kid.
  8. This year’s average home attendance 38,684 – Cal - biggest crowd USC 36,969 - OSU - biggest crowd UW 33,219 – Stanford - biggest crowd UA (other than Cal) 28,023 – WSU - biggest crowd Wisconsin Ducks: 55,895 UW: 68,814 Fannies in seats, and TV ratings, create value for those who exercised a choice. The reason OS and WSU had no choice is self-evident. "Plenty of money" is like using the terminology "pay your fair share." Fair and plenty mean something much different to those without choices, and shouldn't be used to drag down others.
  9. New Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby was his O-coordinator at UCF (2019-21), then at Oklahoma (2022-23). 2018 - Mililani High School, Hawaii 2019 - 13 games at UCF 2020 - 10 games at UCF - non-counting COVID season 2021 - 3 games at UCF - under 4 games season 2022 - 12 games at Oklahoma 2023 - 12 games at Oklahoma

  11. National ranking after Saturday's games: 526.6 yds/game – 2nd – Oregon 514.9 yds/game – 3rd – Liberty Rushing offense 302.9 yds/game – 1st – Liberty – 39 TDs 183.8 yds/game – 30th – Oregon – 32 TDs Passing offense 342.8 yds/game – 2nd – Oregon – 44 TDs 212.0 yds/game – 81st – Liberty – 31 TDs Scoring 44.2 – 2nd – Oregon 40.8 – 5th – Liberty I don't care who your opponents are, if you have put up those numbers consistently during the season, you deserve respect of the defense that will face you.
  12. This was from last night before this morning's announcement, one of the betting sites regarding potential FSU matchups: Alabama -11 Texas -9 Michigan -11 Washington -7
  13. I really do have sympathy for FSU's situation, but Vegas had them as an underdog to each of the four teams that were selected. Probably not if they still had their starting QB, but the Committee probably made the right decision. Playing Iowa's defense always seems like being pulled through a sloppy pig pen, but Michigan looked vulnerable to me. Washington has played a lot of close close games. Will karma catch up? Can Alabama just over power any opponent and win a close one? Maybe Texas is the best? And, true irony Sark will play his old team.
  14. Tulane is/was about 500 miles from Dallas, playing USC Liberty is about 2100 miles from Glendale. Tulane lost their conference championship to SMU or would be in back-to-back instead of Liberty.
  15. Vegas had Florida State as an underdog by at least 7 points to each of the 4 teams that were selected today.
  16. I understand why college players have opted out of bowl games in the past. I wonder if NIL will result in more guys playing? And, does potential opponent motivate some guys to want to play?
  17. The 8 Playoff contenders How they fared against teams currently in AP Top 25 What might the Playoff Committee do? Georgia W’s: (9) Mizzou, (11) Ole Miss Next: (8) Alabama Michigan W’s: (6) Ohio St, (10) Penn St Next: (18) Iowa Washington W’s: (5) Oregon, (14) Arizona, (21) OSU Next: (5) Oregon Florida St W’s: (13) LSU Next: (15) Louisville Oregon W’s: (21) OSU L: at (3) Washington Next: (3) Washington Ohio St W’s: (10) Penn St, (16) Notre Dame L: at (2) Michigan Next: done Texas: W’s: (8) Alabama L: (12) Oklahoma Next: (19) Okie State Alabama W’s: (11) Ole Miss, (13) LSU L: (7) Texas Next: (1) Georgia
  18. Priorities: Reach Selection Sunday with one or fewer losses (100% of Playoff teams have done this). Beat at least three teams in the committee’s Final Selection Sunday top 25 Win at least six games, preferably more, against FBS teams that have .500-plus records on Selection Sunday Win a Power 5 conference Everything starts from scratch each week, which confuses a lot of fans. The committee doesn’t care where your opponent used to be ranked. The committee considers groups of six teams at a time for discussion, so obviously 4, 5, 6 are very important. But 1, 2, 3 also impacts opponent assignment. 7-12 will impact NY6 participation. My add...I do think the Final Top 25 approach could be a flaw. For example, what if Cam Rising had played for Utah this season but missed the last 2-3 games due to injury and Utah fell out of the top 25? Wins against Utah earlier would be discounted due to Utah's final ranking. What if you play in a very competitive conference, but your team's win caused strong 6-6 teams to become 5-7, thus affecting wins over .500? What if another conference has every team play a Softcup U the next to last weekend, and only 8 conference games, which results in your conference with several teams at 6-6 or 7-5 that you beat?
  19. An interesting season in Oregon - OSU history. The Beavs will be the underdog from a betting odds standpoint for the first time this season. They are 8-3, and 7-4 vs "the spread." The Ducks were an underdog in Seattle. They are 10-1, and 8-2-1 vs "the spread." Wonder how long it has been, if ever, that Ducks and Beavs were favored 21 of 22 games entering the Civil War?
  20. On the subject of positioning oneself, I will point to two nuggets in history, and the folks who share their opinions here could probably post dozens more to back up your assertions Charles. 1) Oregon AD Bill Byrne who imagined an Oregon that most fans thought would be impossible. Then, he acted on it. And, the Oregon donor base grew exponentially even before Knight started frosting the cake. 2) A series of poor coaching choices by Oregon State: Jim Anderson for too long, Eddie Payne, Ritchie McKay, Jay John...squandering what was a strong, deep, Beavers fans support for one of the two revenue generators for OSU. OSU basically owned Portland and they squandered it. Craig Fertig, Joe Avezzano, Dave Kragthorpe, Jerry Pettibone...then when they got it right with Erickson and Riley, they hired Andersen. The decisions of an OSU AD over the years have cost OSU dearly. These are self-inflicted deep wounds that were bandaged with conference money flowing into Corvallis from the association with USC, UCLA, UW and later UO. OSU should take pride in what it is to be a Beaver fan. The blueprint was available from schools across the nation if they had paid attention...not just fellow Pac8/10/12 schools. But, some self-reflection instead of pride is needed. The baseball program has also been a blueprint and for some reason widely ignored within the AD offices in Corvallis.
  21. Georgia, Ohio St/Michigan Wins against currently USA Today Coaches top 25 ranked teams 4-Florida St – (14) LSU 5-UW – (6) Oregon, (15) Osewe, (16) Arizona 6-Oregon – none 7-Texas – (8) Alabama, (20) Kansas St 8-Alabama – (12) Ole Miss, (14) LSU, (23) Tennessee 9-Louisville – (17) Notre Dame, (24) NC State As a Ducks fan even I can't fathom Florida State in front of UW.
  22. "I do not understand the rules...." A tie is created if both teams have the same conference record, such as 7-2. The rules then involve conference action before any overall W-L record is considered. For example, in this case, if UO and UA were tied, and since they didn't play each other, the first tiebreaker is their W-L against the next team in the standings. In this case, UA has beaten OSU, and the Ducks (if in a tie) would have lost. UA would get the nod. That is why Ducks need to beat OS, or UA needs to lose to ASU. If there were a different scenario where that doesn't resolve it, there are other rules about W-L against all common opponents, strength of schedule in conference games, before it ever gets to consideration of non-conference record.
