  1. This whole situation is sickening. There seems to be no good solution. Now the Pac will break up and leave all these resentments. A conference that has stood since 1908 through wars, a depression and many other difficulties is going to end because of mismanagement and greed. A lot of this can be laid at the feet of Larry Scott because of his ego and desire to maintain the Pac-12 channel, which has always been an inferior product. Regardless of how bad the situation is, we should all realize that we are all Oregonians and will have to live with the fallout from this for a long time. Traditions like the civil war game, which is one of the oldest rivalries in the country, may also cease to exist. Please keep in mind that many of us will be grieving this change and at this time, may not want to hear about how wonderful the BIG is or how lacking the Beavers are. I have always rooted for the Beavers second after the Ducks and will continue to do so.
  2. It used to be that businesses were connected to their communities and customers and some still are but these big mega-corporations only care about their bottom line. It's amazing how callous they can be. They believe that fans will still watch because they want to see their teams. How does the Pac navigate around this, hopefully they will find a way.
  3. I agree with the point about ESPN and FOX wanting to give to teams leaving the Pac but less to keep the Pac together. It's hard to negotiate when ESPN/FOX are actively trying to break the PAC apart. I think the important thing right now is to survive and wait to see how USC/UCLA survive the change. I feel that travel is too brutal to the basketball teams who already have a tough schedule.
  4. I am a new poster but have followed the discussion for a few years. The PAC has a long history and I am dismayed that we have reached this point. I am very much in the camp that says the PAC needs to hang together as long as they can. I wanted to make two points. First, leaving the PAC would be disloyal to the other members of PAC especially OSU and WSU that are not as desirable to the other conferences. Leaving OSU particularly would cause many bitter feelings within the state between family and friends. To do so just to join one of the "cool" conferences, in my opinion, would only be taken as a last resort. Second, breaking apart the PAC would take a tremendous toll on the other sports who would have to travel to the Midwest or farther. I love basketball and here's what I have observed. By the time the teams get into February, the teams are exhausted. Most of the longer trips are taken at the start of the season when the teams are still fresh, conference games are always later. The PAC has even moved games before Christmas to spread the season out so it isn't as exhausting. Travel in the winter can be compounded by weather especially in the Midwest. Travel also takes a huge toll on players who are recuperating from injuries. It makes me wonder by Arizona which as has excellent men's and women's teams would want to join a conference that would involve so much travel. I believe that the PAC would benefit a lot from watching what happens with USC and UCLA with regard to travel, especially with the basketball teams. Football plays fewer games and only once a week. Travel isn't easy but is less of a burden. Even though football is the money sport, the other teams need to also have a voice.
