Chip Kelly is Happy Now, and I Like That
idontrollonshobbas replied to CountryProf's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think the transfer portal has really helped compensate for Chip's main weakness, recruiting. UCLA will be a stout rival as long as he is around. -
Whittingham is Belottiesque in his ability to do more with less.

UF’s starting DT goes 435lbs! And Utahs 275lb center just hip dozed him about 5 yards on that last run up the gut!

Flowe at Arizona: A Struggle to Play Under Control
idontrollonshobbas replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I know who was wrong....the recruiting services and their regional experts. Of course, those MENSA cases evaluate on "Sunday" talent, so maybe Flowe will be starting for the Packers in 3 years? -
I didn't read the article so my comment is sort of meta....but I don't see how Title IX can remain status quo when the it's Golden Goose (football) is undergoing a sea change that demands the value of the players is recognized and compensated at a market level. Title IX is a benefit for student athletes paid for by revenues generated by the efforts of football players, and to a lesser extent, men's basketball, in the main. If those players deserve to be compensated for their value, then more of those revenues will be needed to pay for the increased expenses. Chip Kelly has been hinting at this for 3 years.....

In this preseason article discussing the secondary, Tysheem Johnson references the complexity of Lanning's scheme compared to Ole Miss. "Like an NFL defense" with switches, checks and terminology that require deep playbook knowledge. This backs up what we discussed here on FishDuck last season when Lanning had to scrap much of that playbook given his first and shortened off season with OBD. Many have said that this offense will score and that the key to the season is getting off the field on 3rd downs for the defense. Aside from keeping Nix upright, that is the prime directive. Integrating Coach Hampton and the whole defensive playbook seems to have happened. Now, they just need the live results on the field. Oregon Ducks relying on transfer safeties Evan Williams, Tysheem Johnson to lead overhauled secondary WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM The transfers from Fresno State and Ole Miss have been working together throughout fall camp.

Flowe at Arizona: A Struggle to Play Under Control
idontrollonshobbas replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Reminds of Jason Williams, a WR the Ducks had in the early 2000's maybe? He was out of central casting for an All-Star WR....size, speed, routes, etc. But he was cursed with hands of stone. Flowe is a prototype LB but can't diagnose a play for the life of him....bad angles, easily faked, prone to spastic penalties. -
I have just read two separate threads, the main thrust of which, respectively, were: 1. Dwight Jaynes doesn't get the new Duck billboard campaign's ROI 2. Colin Cowherd is a ratings opportunist (cleaned this up a bit) Color me shocked.....these two have been pontificating and whiffing for over 3 decades. If Dwight Jaynes were the Ducks AD, we would be looking up the standings at George Fox

Realistic Recruiting? What Do YOU See?
idontrollonshobbas replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I get the felling that Baker is trying to convince himself to make his own path by going somewhere other than his brother’s alma mater. I am also confident in Oregons ability to exceed other schools value proposition. -
Is Coach Prime Stupid-As-Hell?

Wall Street Journal on Sabrina Ionesco
idontrollonshobbas replied to Santa Rosa Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
As a sports fan in the State of Oregon for 50+ years, I have seen my share of sports letdowns. Sabrina's NCAA COVID calamity was a tough pill to swallow. -
Big 12 Commish's Words to Kliavkoff
idontrollonshobbas replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Kliavkoff was handcuffed by the Presidents. The same group who are also responsible for his hire and Larry's original hire and later anointment. -
The amount of money that the UO gets from the legislature has been dropping as a percentage of revenue for decades. The last time a legislator tried to influence a UO policy of some sort it was Rep. Mitch Greenlick (I forget his particular beef) I want to say that it as less then 10% of the UO academic budget was state-funded. It is likely less today....a main reason why tuition and fees have gone up. Point is, if they try to racketeer some dough for the Beavs, I could see the school offering to reject the state funds and go private.

PAC-12 Presidents To Blame For The Collapse
idontrollonshobbas replied to QuackAttack's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Here's the confirmation: Multiple Pac-12 presidents pushed for unrealistic deal from ESPN in media rights negotiations WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM “Sometimes you need a reality check,” WSU’s Kirk Schulz says. -
B1G is FASCINATED With Oregon's Uniforms...
idontrollonshobbas replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Before Lennon & McCartney, there was Calvert and Crossland Maryland's flag bears the arms of the Calvert and Crossland families. Calvert was the family name of the Lords Baltimore who founded Maryland, and their colors of gold and black appear in the first and fourth quarters of the flag. Crossland was the family of the mother of George Calvert, first Lord Baltimore. The red and white Crossland colors, with a cross bottony, appear in the second and third quarters. This flag first was flown October 11, 1880, in Baltimore at a parade marking the 150th anniversary of the founding of Baltimore. It also was flown October 25, 1888, at Gettysburg Battlefield for ceremonies dedicating monuments to Maryland regiments of the Army of the Potomac. Officially, it was adopted as the State flag in 1904 (Chapter 48, Acts of 1904, effective March 9, 1904). -

Pac-12 Blow-Up: What was YOUR Biggest Surprise?
idontrollonshobbas replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm with Haywarduck on this.....the blame lies with the Presidents in the main. They made the decisions. Particularly, Crow at ASU seems to have been the most clueless. They didn't realize they were out of their element in the negotiations and overplayed their hand time and time again. -
B1G Conference Title Game to Vegas?

Modernize the Rose Bowl and play it there.....name the filed after Keith Jackson. -
One could get the impression that the Pac12 Presidents view athletics (outside of Stanford and Olympic sports) as a part of their job they least enjoy/value. Sort of like kissing your sister. Compare the management of athletics over the years in the Pac12/10/8 to the SEC and Big10 where the Athletic Departments are embraced, cultivated and invested in--as nearly autonomous assets--as entities for the greater health of the institution and its alumni and community connections. What the Conference of Champions achieved DESPITE the lack of comparative administrative support is a credit to the boosters, donors and student athletes of those institutions. Chickens came home and roosted.....sadly.
