Are We Seeing What Cristobal DREAMED Of?
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think he's going to make the playoff for Miami... Unlikely to be this year... But he'll put together some winning seasons. I don't anticipate him winning the championship or getting deep into the playoffs because he will be out coached. But he would have gotten the Ducks into the playoff a couple of times with a 12 team field. He'll win but there is a difference between good teams, great teams and national title winners. Also... I don't think Miami will have the cash to get rid of him if he makes the playoffs every few years. His contract is expensive. And I'm glad they gave Oregon about 8 mil in the process. -

I think Cristobal will be there for a while... Remember the man crushes the off season. Cristobal Has Spoiled Fans By Winning the Off-Season | FishDuck FISHDUCK.COM Mario Cristobal will be Oregon’s head coach in 2022. The only way this doesn’t happen is if he opts to leave... He recruits well, hires well (he may not allow them to do their jobs but he hires well), and he gives hope for the next year. -
Are We Seeing What Cristobal DREAMED Of?
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yes and no... Lanning is brining a modern tale on physicality to Oregon. Oregon Football is The Embodiment of Modern Physicality | FishDuck FISHDUCK.COM As Oregon fans, we heard all about physicality from former HC Mario Cristobal over the last four years... One that is just as much about brute force as it is about outsmarting the opponent. Last season I felt I was highly critical of when Oregon went against their more physical. Play... What Happened to Oregon’s Jumbo Formation? | FishDuck FISHDUCK.COM Last year we saw Oregon use its jumbo formation, referred to as 14-J, which meant one running back with... And I think when Lanning and Stein embraced it and brought it back to the forefront it brought some real power with it. Is the Jumbo Formation Back for the Ducks? | FishDuck FISHDUCK.COM Did the coaches read my article last week after Oregon’s loss to Washington asking where the Ducks’... And they did the the week after I criticized them for not using it as much. So I like to think the read the article but I highly doubt it. The first article I posted in this post is one of the articles I am most proud of. I do feel that Oregon will not only fit in with the B1G but dominate it. Cristobal was wrong. It wasn't about more power and more muscle. Power is about brawn and brains... Because making them opponent make a mental mistake can take them out of a play more than physically pushing them off the line... Just let them move themselves out of the way for you and give them a helping push. While you score a touchdown that is. -
To be honest I hate the argument for college sports being they don't do this at the pro level. That's one of the things that makes college football unique and fun. However, I think there should be some limitations on those ooc games and a standardization of conference games. SEC teams shouldn't be allowed to schedule two FCS opponts and certainly not have one game placed at the end of their season. Getting rid of these games would really hurt a lot of FCS and G5 programs as they need these games as a part of their revenue stream. So if the desire is to allow those programs to survive then other means of funding will need to be found.
-
And I'm sure there will be a lawsuit following the ACC demise. I think the ACC will survive like the Big 12 has been permitted to survive as a G5+ conference. I think the left behind teams will make a lawsuit accusing ESPN and Fox colluding in the destruction of their conference to enable them to gain more control over the sport. They did it with the Pac-12 already.

Dan Lanning Not Done Yet With the Portal?
David Marsh replied to kirklandduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
That would make sense... he was out effectively the whole year including camps. I can see why the coaches wanted to get him from the portal but it didn't pan out. Wish him the best no matter what. Football is hard on bodies and sometimes it's best to get out before doing more damage. -
I love it ... But I'd never do something like that because it would still mean I have that purple and that W on my vehicle.

They'll be fine in baseball... Just don't let them know about their other sports. -
Dan Lanning Not Done Yet With the Portal?

You're thinking of Junior Angilau. Cornelius was from Rhode Island and has started at right tackle since he arrived. Angilau has been injured. We'll see if he is able to make an impact. -
Dan Lanning Not Done Yet With the Portal?
David Marsh replied to kirklandduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Helf and the staff opted to not put in Jake Hanson and burn his redshirt all for a second half of a bowl game. Thankfully they've changed the rules on redshirts so they can play in bowl games for free and they get 4 games to play before brining the shirt. Hanson was the clear No. 2 for the majority of the season... Just not with 30 mins left on the clock until the season ends. -

Well they could also be a preferred walk on... And there could be an NIL deal that pays for school and housing. Just saying... Roster limits aren't what they used to be. -
SERIOUSLY? Dan Lanning Needs to 'Get Out of Oregon?'
David Marsh replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The other big thing that I think Lanning is really motivated by at Oregon is being the first to bring a national championship to the school. If he becomes Bama's head coach he has to follow the all time greatest coach in Saban but at Oregon he gets to forge his own legacy and do something that the program has not done before. To date the best season in Duck history is still 2014. Heisman, Rose Bowl victory and National Championship appearance. Need to get that national championship and Lanning is forever the man who brought Oregon it's first football national championship home. -

SERIOUSLY? Dan Lanning Needs to 'Get Out of Oregon?'
David Marsh replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Umm... How did ALL the coaches who left Oregon do in their post-Oregon careers? Brooks was unremarkable.... Kelly was fired from Philly and San Fran and left UCLA in a tenure that generated about a 50% win rate. Now he's an OC. Helfrich was fired and spent a year as an OC in the NFL and was fired... But that felt like a scapegoat firing but he hasn't dipped his toe into coaching since. Taggart... Taggart who? Cristobal... Doing the same thing in Miami he did here but with less success. As you said this is a hit piece. Oregon is a destination and the coaches who left all left for a dream job. Kelly for the NFL, Taggart for FSU and Cristobal for his alma mater of Miami. Lanning is building his program and building his loyalty to the institution. -
Beavers to Play at 9:00 AM PST This Fall, Ducks Next?
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
That was 2017... The year of Taggart and he left like 2 weeks before this bowl. Cristobal and Co were scrambling to retain what they could of the recruiting class as the early signing day was the same week as the bowl game. The Ducks were grossly under prepared for that one. Also quite a few players sat out of the game, I know Royce Freeman was one of them. -
Beavers to Play at 9:00 AM PST This Fall, Ducks Next?
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Interestingly enough I watched part of an interview with the head of Fox's sports broadcasting and how they went about game selection. The way game selection works is basically just a draft. Fox gets the best picks and the most.picks because they have the biggest stake in the B1G. So they get the first 3 picks. Fox wants their big game of the day to be noon for their big noon kickoff. The first pick is always Ohio State v Michigan because it has the highest viewership. I forgot the second pick they discussed. Then they were stuck with a problem for the 3rd pick. They wanted Oregon v Ohio State but they believed they couldn't broadcast it for their noon slot (eastern time) because that's a 9am kickoff in Autzen which they felt was a no go. So they opted to trade their pick to NBC who will play that game in their prime time slot which is much later in the day for the west coast. I don't think we'll see too many 9am kick offs for the Ducks if any at Autzen. Now if we are playing at Penn State or Ohio State... Maybe. We did play Ohio State in 2021 in the big noon slot so that was a 9am slot for the west coast. But Oregon State is being thrown into a garbage time slot because of their situation. Oregon State v BSU is not a prime time game. And the only network that has a 9am (PST) slot is Fox and that game won't be on Fox. -
Dillon Gabriel: "Lost a Bit of Zip on His Throws" ???
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I took would have liked to see more deep shots. But could that also have something to do with our wide receiver corp? It felt like Franklin was really our only deep threat. I love Tez but he's more of a short to medium range target who will get the ball and go get more. Could Stewart be the true deep threat we've needed? With Nix it never felt like his deep balls were placed badly but always a bit too long. Looking forward to seeing how this receiver corp develops as well. -
Big Ten Coaches Talk Anonymously About Conference Foes for 2024

For either track or football. I feel he may be a kid who will be forced to decide one over the other. Right now he'd be buried in Oregon's WR room by the look of it.

Oregon's Opposing Quarterback Rankings Next Year
David Marsh replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
McCarthy looked serviceable but never a game breaker. I don't quite get the hype all around him. But what gives me confyfor the ducks next year is that we have fantastic lines and our defense should be better next year. Our defense last year struggled with air raid styles of offense. Not a lot of those in the B1G. And Oregon has the best QB room in the conference with stellar play makers. They are going to put up points and challenge the opposing offense to score. Only problem with that is Oregon's defense isn't going to let them. The pac-12 was a though conference in so many ways and it was in part through its diversity of play. -
Oregon's Opposing Quarterback Rankings Next Year
David Marsh replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Tyler Van Dyke I think is a better quarterback than he was the past year or two at Miami. As we all know Cristobal handicaps his quarterbacks. But Wisconsin isn't loaded with top end wideouts to support him. -
This is DucksWire's list of opposing quarterback the Ducks will face next year. Oregon Football’s top quarterbacks to face in the 2024 college season DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Who is the best QB that Oregon football will face in 2024? Who is the worst? Here are our rankings. For the most part I tend to agree. I think Ohio State's Will Howard is in an interesting spot, if he does secure the starting job. He will certainly have the best supporting cast of anyone (other than Dillon Gabriel) in the conference. But my big take away is that this isn't a terribly threatening list. The Pac-12 in the past couple of years had far more talent at quarterback by a long shot. This may prove to be a great opportunity for Oregon's defense to feast! Thoughts?
