  1. Poor move to allow the drop of P5 opponents. I would add, the B1G is quickly strengthening their top tier teams. Of course its UGA and Alabama and everyone else in the SEC. I'm going out on a limb here and say that the SEC is NOT head and shoulders above the B1G. tOSU gave UGA all they could handle 4 months ago. Michigan? They beat tOSU. One could argue that putting the top 6 teams from both the SEC and B1G would be an equal matchup. Who's #3 and 4 from both conferences? PSU and Wisconson against who? LSU or UT? Illinois was a surprise last year. I would put that defense against the middling teams of the SEC. They held UM to like 17 points. No, I don't think the SEC is as good as everyone thinks they are. Its the top 3 of UT, UGA and Alabama. All other schools are storied but paper tigers I would add that USC is coming like a freight train. The top 4 teams in the B1G are definitely better than the SEC. And if Oregon comes to the B1G, well the top 5 teams would have a better record than the top 5 SEC teams hands down.
  2. $50 million would be a double from old contract. It's also sounding like the $40 million minimum is losing steam for a new contract. But, if we get 35 million then we have to look at how the stadium gets filled as well. Raising ticket prices will be difficult against ASU. But Sparty? Bucky, and the Ole Nittany Lion? Who wouldn't drop some coin to watch that every other year?
  3. Before we get our Duck feathers all ruffled, I'm saying 'growing' not conformed. It sure looks like fans are starting to talk of realignment with a potential splintered PAC-12 conference. I for one have been on the verge of v'urping each time I think of Oregon going to the B1G. But, I have been putting my Mallard Shades down and looking at this through a more objective lens. For this argument, I'm not going to take sides. Simply put, Oregon going to the B1G makes enormous sense financially. Not only would Oregon get a payday at near double in quick succession, but they would fill the seats at MKA and Autzen and for a premium dollar. Oregon Ohio Stat every 4 years for football and at least every other year for BBall would fill the seats and then some. Premium pricing? Yep. Just think of the 'Pod'. Oregon would play UW, UCLA, USC, every year. That leaves 4 other conference games. Every 3-4 years you would play Ohio St., Michigan, Penn St, Wisconsin, and the like. You could schedule one of the top tier teams each year and 3 from the lower tiers. Always having a Marquis game would fill the stadium. I guess it all comes down to how many conference games the B1G wants each year. 9? Then its play the 'Pod' and 6 other conference opponents. That would most Likely lock in 2 top caliber opponents outside of the 'Pod'. Now, tell me, how much attention, and money, would a home game with Michigan garner? tOSU? PSU? Now think of Bball. It's just reality IMO, that seats would jump in price and Autzen would be sold out. MKA would have sold out games as well. And, you better believe ticket prices will have an extra 'Value' added component with all these storied programs playing in the same conference. $60-$70 million for an entry to the B1G isn't the half of it. Ticket sales along with merchandise sales will elevate sizably as well. It could be an additional $50-$60 million overall. $40-$50 million for the conference paycheck and another $10- $20 million overall for everything else? Sure, there isadded co, but its not that much to stop that truck from filling the Coffers....and the seats.
  4. Wow! That girl is a piece of work. Sad that this has all come from the death of the alleged father. It's really quite simple. The Web family needs to get a lawyer that the mom agrees to and then the Webb family pays for the DNA test. Because the relationship was only about 1 week olaong, it's reasonable to get a paternity test. Isn't this the same girl that 'Streaked' at the SuperBowl? Stable? I think not.
  5. Why is this shameful? Every single kid is offered a scholarship as a minor. Maybe another way to look at it would be if a 6 year old had a set of pipes and he wanted to sing, why couldn't he? Michael Jackson? 10 years old, Marie Osmond? Tanya Tucker? 14 years old. Tell me, if because of your talent, someone offered you an opportunity to cash in on that talent, would you walk away? Sure, a kid needs to be a kid. With that I wholeheartedly agree. However, if I had talent that was flirting with potential professional level compensation, you better believe I would want to cash in on that opportunity. 2 nucleus family members playing in the NFL sounds like its not a pipe dream. If you can play, you get a shot. I'm reminded of when I was a teenager that my Grandfather wanted to pay me based on my age and not on my accomplishment. I worked just as hard and produced just as much as full grown men and I was only 15. My uncle chimed in and said, 'If he works like a man you should pay him like a man'. He gave in to paying me piece work. That inspired me even more and I showed up earlier and worked even harder. So, I'm in the camp of if you prove it then you get the reward. No free rides without proof. If you're good enough you get the reward regardless of age. There's no shame in that.
  6. I find it interesting that 'The Letter' was focused on getting a coach that understood Oregon. That was the begin all of the topic of 'The Letter'. Winning is the begin all. If you aren't winning then the coaches head is going to roll. Understanding Oregon culture isn't primary. See CK. Oregon put up with CK because he was dominating all of College Football sans a RB down but not down play. We all groused how CK wasn't a people person and didn't shmooze the right healed Donor's. But CK never left because he was pushed out. He left of his own accord. And the Oregon faithful put up and even embrased it because we were PAC Champs and Bowl opponent beaters. Oregon faithful are desirous of a 'Winning Culture' first. It's a fair observation. Wilcox wouldn't bring a winning culture IMO. Before anyone says anything about CAL, I'm thinking Tedford. He had the Bears ranked #2 under the same support system. Now, we have DL and he is the total package. He IS a people person for all the groups that are Oregon. And it's only a matter of time. Oregon is going to play in the Natty and take one home. I believe Oregon hit the Jackpot with Lanning.
  7. This is a very touchy subject. We think of the kids first and thats the lense we look through. The flip side is that these are Young Men getting a scholarship for their service. If their service isn't needed then.... It sounds cold but I would refer our thinking to that of any business. Do you keep employees on the payroll if you don't need them? Do you keep kids on the roster that will most likely not see the field? It's a business. These kids asked if not begged for NIL. This is the drawback of it all. The more you make this a business the more it will look and feel like one. Everybody's job is on the line.
  8. You're not going to like my response to this posting. The Universities have $0 obligation to provide excessive athletic scholarships that are in the red. Title IX? Yes. But, back up a bit. Let's ask ourselves why the Universities want CFB in the first place. Money pure and simple. Prestige? Maybe. Oregon should drop every program that doesn't make money. Reassess all of them and then add back what makes us Title IX compliant. Mens BBall and CFB. Woman's BBall and woman's....(insert choice here). Get creative. Dump the bloat. If you need more female athletes then so be it. Match what you need and enough already with all the other sports. Nobody said we have to have an athletic department as large as we do. Time to trim the fat and lean it up. Rip off the band aide and make the hard decision effective for 2024 school year.
  9. If I'm reading between the lines correctly, this kid was overwhelmed by the process and just wanted it done. I'm guessing he loved all three schools but turned in his LOI. When it came back as unfilled out it created mental stress and that created doubt. He is a teenager after all. How he plays in 2023 will factor in portal option for 2024. Oregon is sitting pretty. It's the nature of NIL now. Recruit for the entire college experience not just out of HS.
  10. Now let's see if Oregon and Washington are still in the PAC for 2024.
  11. And yet Georgia will have a new QB as well. OSU was impressive against Georgia and should have won.
  12. By all accounts, U$C should be a better team this coming year. That Tulane meltdown was pure mental IMO. I'm not saying their defense was good, but they should have won easily. The mental toughness should continue to mature along with physically maturing as well. U$C is tough to predict this year. But, I agree with the conclusion that it's U$C and UO for the slip into the playoffs. The health of the roster will be the factor IMO. I foresee pretty comparable teams for 2023. And don't count out UW, OSU, and UU. UCLA might even be a sleeper. This conference is the best top to bottom. I would rate it a close 3rd with the top 2. 3-PAC-UO U$C 1-B1G-OSU UM 2-SEC-UG Ala Yep, the B1G dethrones the SEC in 2023.
  13. 2023 won't be a down year. Far from it. We lost our games due to poor defense. Utah was an anomoly as Risen wasn't playing top shelf, and yet we still won. We crushed the Beavs but let them come back from a monstrous deficit. Again, Defense. We had no problem with our offense last year and I surmise we will have a wonderful offense again this year. Our defensive personnel has been upgraded remarkably, especially on the line. The entire defense is going to be better due to TP. But, the recruits will help it develop even further. Oregon goes 13-0 and makes the playoffs. After that it's anyones guess.
  14. Our offense is not the problem. It will be fine if not even better. It's the defense. Top 4 teams do not have defenses outside of the top 25. Yes, there is outliers, but it's not the norm. All the championship caliber teams have prolific offenses. You gotta slow them down and push them to create a hiccup. That takes a defense. It's all about the defense in 2023
  15. Is it just me or Did the PAC just pick up 2 of the top WR and 3 of the top 10 QB's? I know we are early, but I foresee the PAC, -U$C and UCLA, AA making a large jump in 2024 recruiting. Top to bottom, the PAC will be the best conference for 2023 season including bowls.
  16. I see David Hicks and Peyton Bowen at Oregon in 24 months. You heard it here first!! When the kid wants to go to a specific school and that's what's in his heart, it's not just going to wither away. Of course, girlfriends and the like will have an impact. But, in this day and age, an NIL deal provides enough cash to support a girlfriend transfer as well. Bowen clearly wanted to go to Oregon. But that look on his mom's face when he mentioned Oregon told the whole story. Putting my Duck glasses down for a second, parents who push their kids towards the parent's dream, and not the kids, are planting the seeds of regret by the parents and animosity by the kid. I realize that having a child be this good and having Nationwide options is a dream come true for the entire family. How often does this happen? Definitely a point to ponder. Do you want to live vicariously through your children and overshadow their dreams, or do you prefer that they live out their dreams and you become a part their journey? At some point, when you move out of your bedroom and under the direction of your parents, you will realize that you are growing into an adult and need to make decisions that benefit your life. After all, these kids must live with the consequences of their actions. It's only fair that they should get the final say of how it's lived without the guilt trip from one's parents. I don't care what school we are talking or what course in life we are talking. IMO, guide your children with the values you have adopted. Hope that they see the wisdom with which you have guided. Communicate well even if you have to go back and apologize. Be their advocate, and then let them make their own decision and support them as the final say, even if you don't agree. It's OK to voice it but let them know you support their decision anyway. I know this is in the weeds a bit. I just look a little deeper than NLI day. These are real kids trying to make everyone happy. Hearts are involved. Hopefully, unnecessary family division is avoided.
  17. The whole Defensive side of the ball. A 5* D lineman recruit, a 5* D lineman transfer, a heralded 4* Defensive back, a heralded Defensive backer transfer. Yeah...the Defense, this what I'm looking most forward to.
  18. Competition Competition Competition!! Nobody gets a free pass and nobody's position is sacred. In 2-3 years Oregon will have the roster that DL wants and is efforting towards. The by product will be a carrousel of Juniors heading to the NFL. This in turn means we will perpetually be younger.
  19. Have you seen ASU's recruiting numbers? Staggering! 20 HS recruits and 25 transfers!! A total of 45 kids in this cycle. Whoa!! Good for Dilly. I sure like the guy. Hope they lose every match up with us but love the guy no less.
  20. Eugene Garbage????!!!! I'm biased, I know. I live within site of the lights of Autzen. But, this is a traditional college town with the Nike link and a pretty good academic university. U$C is world renowned for its academics and athletics. However, it's back yard is pretty slummy. That's fact. Gangs roam the streets, and that's scary. Kid's probably don't care, but to trash the town or the school? Best look in your backyard first. U$C is getting theirs. It will improve IMO. Oregon just brought in the NC DC from the SEC. That....means....something. Typical whining about who is better. Best to NOT go 4-8 the previous year and open ones mouth. One year with a garbage defense doesn't mean your back. Oregon can't chirp either till we get to limiting opponents to the 20 point range on average and making late quarter meltdowns a thing of the past. Duck On!!!!!
  21. This hurts.....because having 2, count them, 2-5* WR for Bo would have been dizzying to say the least. However, Cozart and Dickey and possibly Sadiq is no slouch in the receiver room. Pleasants speed is breathtaking. Not bummed about Harbor but that would have been mesmerizing to have him come here. This recruiting class is mind numbing. 20-4*+ kids signing NLI 5-4* transfers. 25 kids 4*+ coming in with 2 of those 5*. Are you stinking kidding me???!!!!!!!!! Utah and U$C is the only other teams in the top 25 for recruiting and its not close.
  22. This story is getting ugly for Larry Scott. To be fair, we truly don't know who knew and who sat on this info. But, it sure looks like Larry Scott was informed. I can just imagine how this line of reasoning went: LS: You mean to tell me that we were overpaid? S.W.D: According to the self imposed audit LS: Does Comcast know about this? Have they spoken to us on this matter? S.W.D: No. LS: How do we know we were overpaid since we can't see the numbers that Comcast holds close to the vest? S.W.D: We don't, but we are pretty sure. LS: Well then, it's an internal audit by numbers we can't verify. For all we know, we could still be getting underpaid. Comcast knows the numbers and Comcast is cutting the checks. Nuf' said. Now please stop interupting my meeting with Harvard Alums in my Las Vegas Pent House Suite! The Cavierre is getting warm! 5 years later.... GK: Oh good grief! I feel like a Janitor. Always cleaning up after the last guy! Media: You want a fat and juicy contract? We want answers and reassurances! GK: You got it! I'll fire the only people left from this embarrassment. .....S.W? Your FIRED!! GK: Will that work? Media: Great start! We'll talk
  23. This is some very shady business dealings to say the least. How in the world can the PAC be paid by Comcast based on Comcasts secret numbers? What???!! Then, how do you 'Kow' you are being overpaid or underpaid? Only comcast should know with any accuracy. That leads me to my next question. How can anyone truly know they have been overpaid? If Comcast wants some clawbacks, then they need to open the books via a court order. This is a bunch of garbage. Also, why fire the 2 execs? For what? Not telling Comcast that the PAC doesn't truly know the payout? Whaaaaatt??!!!
  24. U$C's whining has no limits. They whine with a tough schedule. They whine with last years cream puff schedule. They didn't have to play 2 of the 4 top 15 teams in conference play. They lost twice to one of those ranked teams and squeaked by on another by only 3 points. Easy schedule.......and they whine. Hard schedule.......and they whine. They will use this as an 'Us against the World' mantra. Whatever whiners
  25. "You've Got to Make Your Free Throws' "Bingo Bango Bongo!!!" "Mercy Mercy Jerome Kersey!!' I would lay in bed as a kid and listen to the Schonz tell me my bed time story. My beloved Blazers play by play announcer was a good friend.
