  1. But there is only $20 million for each school in the PAC? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. Its all about eyeballs
  2. I'm going out on a huge limb right now!! Oregon needs to play a noncon in Asia. China, Japan, Australia, India, every year for the next 5 years!! Can you imagine the groundswell? Promote the Brand and Oregon will be the most valuable by far of ALL college teams in 5 years. Don't believe me? Baseball anyone? NFL across the pond? One would think in 5 years that Oregons value could very well reach $100 million with all those eyeballs. Opening game on a Thursday in week 0. They would own the World that week!!
  3. I've got this weird feeling that Oregon just might get more than 2 5* kids this year. The vibe with all these kids is incredible. I say 'weird' because this is uncharted territory. This highly graded, so early in the year, recruiting class, with a powerful lineup to finish even stronger than what we have on board right now!!! 91.20 average ranking is nothing to sneeze at. Its already a Blue chip laden class. Just Wow!!
  4. In the latest recruiting rankings, Oregon has risen to #5. But, looking closer, this ranking is skewed. In my opinion, looking at the individual player grade is more accurate. Having 39 recruits but all 3* is NOT better than having 25 players all 4/5*. Quantity is NOT better than quality. Oregon has vaulted in both categories and its been enjoyable to watch. If we are to grade Oregon on player grade outs, then Oregon sits at #9. It doesn't matter how many kids but the quality of kid coming in. Take the quantity number and throw it in the trash can when it comes to rankings in the recruiting wars. For example: U$C sits at 91.59 but that's an average between having 2-4* and 1-3*. Or in other words 2-1 ratio. But, U$C only has 3 recruits. Not tearing up the recruiting season are they. The underlying current tells a below the surface story for Oregon though. Oregon, in no way possible, should be sitting with 14 commits and ranked with a 91.20 average player score...in MAY!!!! Yeah!! MAY!!! What is this telling me? IMO, Oregon is about to close on 2-4 5*players and finish the 2024 recruiting season with the rest being 4*'s. Sure, a 3* player or two may come in this year as well, but Oregon sure looks like a team that is going to grade out higher than 91.20 for the year. 14 now with 10 or so to go. Get 2 - 5*, 15 - 4*, and 4 - 3*, and this looks like an average 'Bama year in recruiting. Just sayin' I predict somewhere around 93 grade for the finish of the 2024 recruiting season.
  5. It just keeps rolling!! On a different note. How about a uniform that looks like the player is exploding through a barrier of glass? Like huge shards at the center of the Jersey blowing apart and getting smaller towards the edge of the Uniform. I'm thinking for Husky week its a Pic of a Dawg getting shattered!!!! Booyah Husky Boiiiiiiiiii..!!!!!!!
  6. I believe you have too much emotion in your assessment. Ty hasn't left the program and more importantly, Oregon hasn't asked him to leave.. You know, 'son you will never play here because you can't cut it. We are putting you in at 4th string regardless. We suggest you hit the Portal.' WS seems to be using the pieces in front of him and TT is one of those pieces. However, experience at Oregon only goes so far. Is he the next superstar? Probably not. Can he service the team to a winning season? Remains to be seen. But, you don't leave Novostad on the sideline without seeing if he fishes or not either. I'm in the camp of putting them in this sequence as back up. 1) Ty Thompson 1a) Austin Novostad
  7. Star valuations are limited. They show the current ability, but can't show heart or humility with the desire to listen and learn. HS is notorious for pure athleticism on display and overrunning physically immature kids as well. Getting the physically mature kids is only half the evaluation process. Getting kids self driven and grounded psychologically is the key. With that said, getting the high 4/5*, being mentally with it, is key. I will take those all day over a 3*. Again, star valuations are limited to a snap shot in time. But, a 265lb 6'5" 18 year old DE with blazing speed against an 18 year old 225 lb. 6'5" DE just isn't the same kid nor product to be put on the field. I personally will take the 4/5* over the 3*. It's how 'Bama does it, it's how tOSU does it, it's how UGA does it. And they have the Trophies to back it up. The top rated recruits tend to bring trophies home the most consistently. Thats the secret sauce in the Guacamole baby.
  8. I can see the other players being left out of the top100. A person needs to prove it. Conerly hasn't played enough, but Bucky has and is high on the list of a lot of pundits. Bucky is a notable absentee.
  9. Uh Oh!! I foresee massive blowback. 1) The value of the scholarship will be front and center and the 'Wages' one receives will come off the debt owed for said scholarship. This in turn harks the question of interest accrued on scholarship. Room and Board? What a ridiculous mess 2) The elimination of all sport not cash flow positive. Of course, a school has the option of keeping noncash generators but why? Why 'Pay' every single kid to play a sport that makes no money? Its a compounding negative. Its tough enough that some sports programs are cash flow negative, but than you have to pay them as well? I'll bet it comes with scholarships as well. I'm aware of partial scholarship offers, but this is going to set a precedent. It will be interesting to see the landscape over the next few years. Conference realignment, NIL, College Student Athlete wages, etc. etc. The times....They are a Change'n
  10. How does this grab you? The ACC has reportedly found their 8th school in conference to break away without an enormous Grant of Rights (GOR) penalty. One would think that all 8 are NOT going to be united in their final destination. So, it's easy to see a few going to the SEC and a few going to the B1G. The domino effect would have the Big12 welcome the four corners and the B1G grab UW and UO. But, hold on, and Walk down insanity lane for a second would ya? What kind of deal could a Coast to Coast league get? Stay with me. UW, WSU, OSU, UO, Stanford, Cal, (Utah and Colorado) for the PAC coastal division Miami, FSU, South Carolina, Clemson, Louisville, and (1-3 others)?? ACC coastal division I'm not saying its perfect, I'm simply saying that we all get north of $40 million with this set up. $50-$55 million looks about right. Maybe an unequal revenue share for the less drawable schools. $55-$60 million for the top tier and $45 million for bottom tier? It brings a powerful BBall conference as well. We could 'Allow' ND to remain in the ACC and be independent for FB. Ooooooooo, I'm liking it!!! If we could play our pods of 7 games and 2 from the Atlantic coast, say 1 home and 1 away, then it would be negligible for sheer impact and would be a cascading cash cow. We wouldn't need the absolute top dollar and would preserve our reasonable chance for a CFB playoff spot...or two. I'm cheering some semblance of this scenario.
  11. Thx for your viewpoint. I can't argue with the points you bring up. My take is that, looking at the conferences today, the SEC is not head and shoulders above the B1G. Sure, Purdue and Wisconsin, aren't good examples today. However, the argument that teams have been good in the past can't hold up to being a top tier team. Nebraska, Colorado, Florida, Miami, FSU? Even LSU, they were good last year, didn't look so good just a few years back. Auburn won the Natty and has looked atrocious for years now. USC is being looked at through traitorous glasses right now. Thats not fair to the team as a whole. Their defense is less than average. Take a look at the incoming roster, its about to change. USC had no problem on offense. They had a broken down QB that gave his all. They lost because their defense was Swiss cheese. Thats changing right now. As far as the SEC recruits, I wholeheartedly agree with the top 4 or so teams. Outside of that? Average at best. In fact, tons of recruits end up in the SEC from California, at least from the left coast. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that once Washington and Oregon are in the B1G, that all recruits will come to terms, with the College landscape is 2 conferences, and will want to be a part of that. The drifting to other conferences by the top tiered recruits will steadily get smaller. Only schools left to finish the full transformation are Miami, Florida State, and Clemson. All the heavy hitters will be in the 2Cons. I foresee a sizeable shift coming. The SEC is going to start to lose the moniker of being the best conference. It won't come from the winner of the Championship, but with all the rest of the bowl participants. Its closer than one thinks.
  12. MrsPenny, I would respectfully disagree with you. NIL and Conference contracts are two separate things. Schools don't get paid from NIL. Their cash source is dictated by TV. Buddying up with the ACC has a major problem. The problem is a contract that is 13 years from dissolving. The Mouse isn't going to let that go without getting his ears tickled. With that said, I see it difficult to find a path to an alliance with the ACC. Uncle Phil has been vocal about Oregon going to the B1G. He wants it! I believe, if we don't have a media deal in 2 months, that Oregon and Wahington are gone.
  13. From a different thread as it better applies here...... .... I would add, the B1G is quickly strengthening their top tier teams. Of course its UGA and Alabama and everyone else in the SEC. I'm going out on a limb here and say that the SEC is NOT head and shoulders above the B1G. tOSU gave UGA all they could handle 4 months ago. Michigan? They beat tOSU. One could argue that putting the top 6 teams from both the SEC and B1G would be an equal matchup. Who's #3 and 4 from both conferences? PSU and Pur-don't' against who? LSU or UT? Illinois was a surprise last year. I would put that defense against the middling teams of the SEC. They held UM to like 17 points. No, I don't think the SEC is as good as everyone thinks they are. Its the top 3 of UT, UGA and Alabama. All other schools are storied but fair to middling. I would add that USC is coming like a freight train. The top 4 teams in the B1G are definitely better than the SEC. And if Oregon comes to the B1G, well the top 5 teams would have a better record than the top 5 SEC teams hands down. Oregon is not going away with DL on the sidelines. We are about to start the Diesel.
  14. Poor move to allow the drop of P5 opponents. PSU and Wisconson against who? LSU or UT? Illinois was a surprise last year. I would put that defense against the middling teams of the SEC. They held UM to like 17 points. No, I don't think the SEC is as good as everyone thinks they are. Its the top 3 of UT, UGA and Alabama. All other schools are storied but paper tigers I would add that USC is coming like a freight train. The top 4 teams in the B1G are definitely better than the SEC. And if Oregon comes to the B1G, well the top 5 teams would have a better record than the top 5 SEC teams hands down.
  15. $50 million would be a double from old contract. It's also sounding like the $40 million minimum is losing steam for a new contract. But, if we get 35 million then we have to look at how the stadium gets filled as well. Raising ticket prices will be difficult against ASU. But Sparty? Bucky, and the Ole Nittany Lion? Who wouldn't drop some coin to watch that every other year?
  16. Before we get our Duck feathers all ruffled, I'm saying 'growing' not conformed. It sure looks like fans are starting to talk of realignment with a potential splintered PAC-12 conference. I for one have been on the verge of v'urping each time I think of Oregon going to the B1G. But, I have been putting my Mallard Shades down and looking at this through a more objective lens. For this argument, I'm not going to take sides. Simply put, Oregon going to the B1G makes enormous sense financially. Not only would Oregon get a payday at near double in quick succession, but they would fill the seats at MKA and Autzen and for a premium dollar. Oregon Ohio Stat every 4 years for football and at least every other year for BBall would fill the seats and then some. Premium pricing? Yep. Just think of the 'Pod'. Oregon would play UW, UCLA, USC, every year. That leaves 4 other conference games. Every 3-4 years you would play Ohio St., Michigan, Penn St, Wisconsin, and the like. You could schedule one of the top tier teams each year and 3 from the lower tiers. Always having a Marquis game would fill the stadium. I guess it all comes down to how many conference games the B1G wants each year. 9? Then its play the 'Pod' and 6 other conference opponents. That would most Likely lock in 2 top caliber opponents outside of the 'Pod'. Now, tell me, how much attention, and money, would a home game with Michigan garner? tOSU? PSU? Now think of Bball. It's just reality IMO, that seats would jump in price and Autzen would be sold out. MKA would have sold out games as well. And, you better believe ticket prices will have an extra 'Value' added component with all these storied programs playing in the same conference. $60-$70 million for an entry to the B1G isn't the half of it. Ticket sales along with merchandise sales will elevate sizably as well. It could be an additional $50-$60 million overall. $40-$50 million for the conference paycheck and another $10- $20 million overall for everything else? Sure, there isadded co, but its not that much to stop that truck from filling the Coffers....and the seats.
  17. Wow! That girl is a piece of work. Sad that this has all come from the death of the alleged father. It's really quite simple. The Web family needs to get a lawyer that the mom agrees to and then the Webb family pays for the DNA test. Because the relationship was only about 1 week olaong, it's reasonable to get a paternity test. Isn't this the same girl that 'Streaked' at the SuperBowl? Stable? I think not.
  18. Why is this shameful? Every single kid is offered a scholarship as a minor. Maybe another way to look at it would be if a 6 year old had a set of pipes and he wanted to sing, why couldn't he? Michael Jackson? 10 years old, Marie Osmond? Tanya Tucker? 14 years old. Tell me, if because of your talent, someone offered you an opportunity to cash in on that talent, would you walk away? Sure, a kid needs to be a kid. With that I wholeheartedly agree. However, if I had talent that was flirting with potential professional level compensation, you better believe I would want to cash in on that opportunity. 2 nucleus family members playing in the NFL sounds like its not a pipe dream. If you can play, you get a shot. I'm reminded of when I was a teenager that my Grandfather wanted to pay me based on my age and not on my accomplishment. I worked just as hard and produced just as much as full grown men and I was only 15. My uncle chimed in and said, 'If he works like a man you should pay him like a man'. He gave in to paying me piece work. That inspired me even more and I showed up earlier and worked even harder. So, I'm in the camp of if you prove it then you get the reward. No free rides without proof. If you're good enough you get the reward regardless of age. There's no shame in that.
  19. I find it interesting that 'The Letter' was focused on getting a coach that understood Oregon. That was the begin all of the topic of 'The Letter'. Winning is the begin all. If you aren't winning then the coaches head is going to roll. Understanding Oregon culture isn't primary. See CK. Oregon put up with CK because he was dominating all of College Football sans a RB down but not down play. We all groused how CK wasn't a people person and didn't shmooze the right healed Donor's. But CK never left because he was pushed out. He left of his own accord. And the Oregon faithful put up and even embrased it because we were PAC Champs and Bowl opponent beaters. Oregon faithful are desirous of a 'Winning Culture' first. It's a fair observation. Wilcox wouldn't bring a winning culture IMO. Before anyone says anything about CAL, I'm thinking Tedford. He had the Bears ranked #2 under the same support system. Now, we have DL and he is the total package. He IS a people person for all the groups that are Oregon. And it's only a matter of time. Oregon is going to play in the Natty and take one home. I believe Oregon hit the Jackpot with Lanning.
  20. This is a very touchy subject. We think of the kids first and thats the lense we look through. The flip side is that these are Young Men getting a scholarship for their service. If their service isn't needed then.... It sounds cold but I would refer our thinking to that of any business. Do you keep employees on the payroll if you don't need them? Do you keep kids on the roster that will most likely not see the field? It's a business. These kids asked if not begged for NIL. This is the drawback of it all. The more you make this a business the more it will look and feel like one. Everybody's job is on the line.
  21. You're not going to like my response to this posting. The Universities have $0 obligation to provide excessive athletic scholarships that are in the red. Title IX? Yes. But, back up a bit. Let's ask ourselves why the Universities want CFB in the first place. Money pure and simple. Prestige? Maybe. Oregon should drop every program that doesn't make money. Reassess all of them and then add back what makes us Title IX compliant. Mens BBall and CFB. Woman's BBall and woman's....(insert choice here). Get creative. Dump the bloat. If you need more female athletes then so be it. Match what you need and enough already with all the other sports. Nobody said we have to have an athletic department as large as we do. Time to trim the fat and lean it up. Rip off the band aide and make the hard decision effective for 2024 school year.
  22. If I'm reading between the lines correctly, this kid was overwhelmed by the process and just wanted it done. I'm guessing he loved all three schools but turned in his LOI. When it came back as unfilled out it created mental stress and that created doubt. He is a teenager after all. How he plays in 2023 will factor in portal option for 2024. Oregon is sitting pretty. It's the nature of NIL now. Recruit for the entire college experience not just out of HS.
