Makes no sense unless the PAC deal that GK is presenting is just a wish and a prayer. Maybe to far down the road for CU to risk. Or just more BS... Even CU wants out then they should go. There contribution to the PAC has been what? CU will go where Prime wants them to go. The Big 12 offers a foot print in Texas. The PAC may not see the value. CU leaving wont end the PAC.

Its difficult for me to get on board with a potential PAC invite for BSU. They just dont meet the metrics for viewing numbers or academics. Yes, regional viewers may watch but will BSU draw Texas and SoCal viewers. Probably not? Tulane, along with SMU would give thr PAC a footprint in SEC and big 12 country. More viewers and more time zone broadcast spots. I enjoy BSU and rooted for them, in their big games. I can see how some on this forum would support them. Charles was spot on that we dont have enough inside knowledge, at this point, on what the PAC and Oregon future plans are. Remember, the PAC Presidents gave GK permission to explore 4 schools for possible expansion fit; SDSU SMU CSU The 4th school was a mystery.... Do any on this,Forum feel that BSU was the mystery team?

Bassa’s Perfect Blitzing Technique in Holiday Bowl
HappyToBeADuck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks Charles for the step by step breakdown of JB's blitzing technique on this play in the Holiday Bowl. Running the video in real time truly showed how this blink of an eye swim move was executed perfectly. In slow motion you can also feel how suprised the UNC Offensive lineman was because JB blew by him. It was a thing of beauty....... With the addition of Burch and experience of the D line we should see an increase in TFL's and sacks. Bassa should have a field day this season. If OBD's want a CFP invite then Williams, Penix, Rising and DJU need to be sacked or chased off their mark. Let chaos run supreme for the Duck D in 2023! -
Some New Husky Comments for Upcoming Season and Beyond
HappyToBeADuck replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Well the Beavers should just keep their mouths shut until they: ■ Make the PAC Title Game ■ Win the PAC Title game ■ Get a CFP invite ■ Win a CFP game ■ Play for the Natty That would be a,reason to smack talk. However, when the success of your season is measured by a victory over the Ducks...... What can we say.......... As for the fuskies? Well they will now move to the top of the PAC's most dillusional fan base as usuck moves to the most dillusional conference of all, the big! GO DUCKS...... -
The Greatest Oregon Sound-Effect EVER?
HappyToBeADuck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Charles, you are correct that it never gets old. If it means a Duck victory then "Chunk" is a sound i can live with. Go Ducks.....the PSU slaughter cant come soon enough for this Duck fan. -
Oregon Against Conference Expansion?
HappyToBeADuck replied to kirklandduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great posts JJ and 1FunDuck. More questions than answers at this point for all of us. I agree that expansion makes no sense if the end game is to just be viable and available when the next round of expansion heats up...... And JJ you are correct that the Tier 1 Media rights holder may very well decide PAC Expansion. Thanks for sharing thosr good thoughts. -
Oregon Against Conference Expansion?
HappyToBeADuck replied to kirklandduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Well, when it comes to forward thinking, especially on their athletic departments, the PAC presidents have caused a lot of angst and head scratching. Especially for OBDF and the PAC's fanbase. It's certainly plausible that 2 schools could oppose expansion, maybe more. When it comes to messing things up and poor decision making the PAC has quite rhe track record. The article was short on substance, facts and named sources. But who knows...... Like it or not, the PAC needs to provide content for the TIER ONE Rights holder. What that content number is only GK and the negotistors know...... To me, the PAC is not that compelling. With the hated usucks leaving its even less compelling. No more Utah vs usuck! No more matchups against OSU, uw or Oregon. ucla nevered raised my interest level but the Bruins were interesting for the Networks. Both schools carry so much content value that fox was willing to destroy a conference to acquire thrm..... Those were big time matchups that were must see games. That quality inventory content cannot be replaced overnight. New, fresh rivalries need to be created. Fresh blood can and will increase fan interest. The PAC brand needs games in the CST time zone. The PAC can build there Brand in Texas. SMU invented pay for play 40 plus years ago. They didnt really try to hide it. SMU and its boosters will invest BIG TIME..... Time and patience, as always, are necessary for us fans. -
Pac-12 May Move to 8-Game League Schedule in 2024
HappyToBeADuck replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The problem is that OOC game schedules are made years in advance. If the PAC goes to a 8 game league schedule how many P5 schools have open dates ro fill those slots? As a fan i would love to do some games with the ACC. Its possible ro get done, assuming the ACC wants to make it happen. Fun stuff to think about ..... -
That was a disappointing read. Mullens, when he does make public speeches reminds all of us how Oregon strives to put the student athlete first. If this article is true and these women wear the Oregon colors then its disgraceful and should be addressed. My donations arent just for football and i expect public officials to answer questions when called upon. How on earth would Mullens risk TITLE 1X compliance so blatantly. Would really like a response so we could hear the other side of this story.....

A great deal of thoughts to ponder Woad. Your point about viewing geography is well stated. This west coast fan rarely watches an ACC football game. Except the last few weeks of the season when i am rooting for any ACC team to beat Clemson. Why? Because i want a PAC school to get a CFP invite, not an ACC school. Nothing against the ACC, I love and root for the ACC agsinst the SEC. My fan interest is regional not national until mid November. Because thosr games start clarifying the national picture. Also, how many ACC fans have a viewing interest in a 10:30 pm kickoff between west coast teams? The PAC and ACC contests would draw both coastal viewing audiences. Maybe the numbers that matter to linear providers and streamers. A 4 pm pst/7 pm est kickoff between UNC/OREGON or GT vs WSU or Duke/Stanford or any combo would draw the coastal viewing audience. Or kickoffs at 1 pm est/10 am ost will work. These games will pull coastal fans away from Fox big games. Both conferences should be pro active and create a greater brand. Clemson, FSU, UNC, Utah, uw and Oregon are brands that can stand with PSU, Michigan, t OSU and usuck for fan interest The BIG and FOX are bullies. They are confident that any of those schools will come running and panting when they get the invite to the BIG. Just like usuck did..... BIG is overated as a conference. SEC is king of football ACC/Big 12 rules MBB. The perception the PAC has is well earned. Until a PAC school wins a Natty not much will change. Looking forward to UNC claiming an ACC football title this season.

To me, you could interchange any of the top 5 teams and put them in any order. USC, uw, Utah and Oregon could not sustain and injury ro their starting QB and still be a 10 win team. Oregon at 4 is okay because they have 2 unknowns. Can the oline gel and be dominant? Can the defense get off the field on 3rd down? If those 2 things happen the Ducks will win the PAC in 2023.

Hey thomallister 1291, its okay..... Its okay to trust but always verify. Glad you are out there looking. I wanted more info because it was exciting news. I went to PAC 12 media deal and up popped a few articles. McMurphy, on purpose or accidently misleading, omitted the word CLARITY. It changed the narrative. Thats not your fault, thats on McMurphy. U watch, Friday night he will be criticizing the PAC for having no deal. He is being dishonest and a piece of ....(work). He now has ZERO credibility and he undid all the respect I had for his work. He cannot be trusted to inform. However, GK giving clarity to the chancellors and presidents is positive news. I get the feeling that each day more pieces keep coming together. He is not going to blow smoke at them but clarity means theirs substance at hand. Good news..... Consider this, every negotiator in the room and every media network executive or streamer KNOWS that the PAC wants a deal north of the G5 Big 12 deal. Once i know what the other person wants, i do my best to make that happen. And i let them know what they need to do to get what they want. Its how business to business works. I just finished a 2 hour conference call with 2 other associates finalizing our terms for a competitor coming aboard our business. He will know and his team will know tomorrow our expectations. When they deliver the dollar value we want with their book (volume of business) of business they will receive their asking dollar amount. Its how this business arrangement will work. They have to perform. Promises mean nothing...... OBDF members, its getting close. Nothing we hear or read matters on this subject until GK or the Presidents make that official announcement. Go PAC...Go DUCKS........
-
After further review the CU Chancellor said that GK will present some CLARITY on the network deal to the chancellors and the presidents on Thursday He did not say the deal would be presented. It would help if McMurphy would not mislead readers. This misreporting takes us all down the wrong road. Just leaving out one word changed the narrative and gives false hope. Its just Baloney......

Those are great questions cartm25. Not sure any of my answers have value but here goes. About Amazon/NFL viewership dropping....... The NFL took alot of money and gave Amazon multiple crappy matchups. The fans voted with their dollars and said to the NFL that not all your games are worth watching or spending my hard earned money on. Amazon got 1 crappy matchup a week. They did not get the league. About puoneering Streaming As i have mentioned on other threads the Streamer who bids and gets the PAC's tier 1 rights gets 30 OOC games to broadcast or sell some Tier 2 rights to. 6 more OOC games if we add SDSU and SMU. And 5 or 6 Conference games a week (depending on expansion) for 9 weeks. Plus the PAC 12 Title game. Broadcasting 2 or potentially 3 time zones worth of games. Each school will bring their fans, who will subscribe monthly to see their teams play football and hopefully all sports. This is not anything like the NFL deal or a few CF games being streamed up to this poiint.. I dont care about Arizona Cardinals vs Jacksonville on Thursday night. But i will watch UA against OSU if its part of my subscription. Or Stanford vs Utah. These games have "Interest Value" to millions of fans Also, this is an entire conferemce pioneering streaming with a streaming company in control. Not an isolated game or 2 on Peacock. This should be bigger and bolder. Also, linear ESPN will be gone in just a few years. You will have your cable bill and your ESPN+ Subscription monthly fee to. Increasing viewership via a streamer? Personally ESPN will lose me if they dont carry the PAC. Why would I give my money to watch the ACC or ESPN streaming? Especially when the best games of interest will be on ABC or CBS. Why would i subscribe to watch uw vs michigan state or usc against anyone. Those are just test market games, nothing more. Apple has like 20 million plus subscribers now. They know that they can add a few million subscribers with an entire conference like the PAC. Again i will drop my ESPN package and add an Apple subscription. Dont you think that a few million of the PAC 12 Network's 14 million will take on a subscription with a streamer for the PAC Package? Also we dont know that PAC Tier 2 rights wont be on ABC, CBS or the CW.... The Streamers know that if this opportunity is profitable for them and reaps substantial annual revenue for the PAC then the others conferences may come running for their share. Hope this perspective helps and i sure enjoy your perspective. GO Ducks........

The Ducks and top PAC schools will be on TV. Some streaming and some linear. If you take it on face value, does anyone on this Forum think that the PAC has not stressed, in negotiations, that they need more exposure for their teams????? Does anyone on this Forum think that the media entities bidding and the PAC are working to make it worse? GEEZ....... Do you think that the media negotiators go back to their bosses and say lets do this so we can screw our new partners in the PAC? They all are working together to make this the best business transaction for all involved. Does anyone think our exposure will go fown because of streaming? It will increase substantially if the package is right..... The streamers/linear media want you to subscribe and watch. Why so much angst? Yes in the beginning we all will need to still pay to get ESPN and add the Tier 1 rights streamer subscription. Thats how they make money abd can broadcast the games. I, as many on this Forum wish this would come to an end. And it will. There is no rush at this point because its better for the final deal be right. No suprises like the BIG is getting or settling like the glorified G5 Big 12 did. They added 3 more years for no more money or even less as Jon Joseph pointed out. Yesterday i was meeting with a longtime business friend and customer. His business does $40 million plus annually. He is a crazy Duck everything like Charles. He lives remote and deep in the Southetn Oregon Cadcades. He drives 30 miles to the nearest restaurant/bar to get his Duck games. It took us 5 minutes to handle business and then 2 hours of Duck talk. He said that the PAC has more value than the average fan understands. Besides the After Dark Game value cannot be replaced by anyone. Not even the MWC. The real value is that Fox alienated the 50 to 60 million fans west of the Rockies that dont give a squat about usc and ucla. Not to mention that Fox didnt care if they ripped the PAC apart. Those fans in that number want to see their teams play, not the traitors or support Fox. The real value is meeting the needs of those fans. Something good could be coming soon.

'New Entrants' to Pac-12 Media Deal per Canzano
HappyToBeADuck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
SMU and Houston playing at G5 level is not the big leagues. That perception will change as they move to P5 and are more visible on a national level. When they become competitive at the P5 level, Texans will watch.... Texans will watch SMU/Utah, SMU/uw or SMU/Oregon. Or Houston/Baylor, Houston/TCU etc. Especially if they become competitive. You just cant compare G5 interest to P5 viewing numbers. When the streamer/linear advertises SMU/Oregon it will be on a national level. Todays picture or our view today of a G5 School wont be relevant tomorrow when they are P5. For any G5 - Big 12, Texas and Texas cash machine fans, consider as P5 members SMU, Houston etc, will be competing for 4☆ and 5☆ Texas talent that wouldnt even give them a look see as a G5 member. But will be giving them a look as a P5 member. The Longhorns and Aggies dont get them all now, they will get less going forward. TCU, Baylor, TT, and OSU will lose some too as SMU and Houston recruit at a P5 level. Also, having $30 million plus, per year to invest will make a difference in coaches salaries and recruiting. Change is coming....... One last thought about Brands. Texas has been irrelevant since 2004. They cant even win the BIG 12, good luck moving past The Dawgs, Bama, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee. Only 3 of those schools will be off to the CFP. A&M? Have they won an SEC title and made it to the CFP since joining the SEC? Brands need to win in this day and age to matter. Oregon was not a brand in 1994-95. With PK and others investing in facilities, coaches salaries and exposure the Ducks moved on the National scene with Joey Harrington and others. It was a slow build. Then the Ducks struck lightning in a bottle with Chip and by 2010 the Ducks were must watch TV and they became a BRAND...... Utah, was not a brand 11 years ago but had a couple of undeafeated seasons and a victory over Bama at the G5 level. But with P5 money and exposure they are building a national Brand. Why cant this happen to SMU, Houston or SDSU? More money to invest, market and brand with P5 money.......SMU playing in NY6 or Rose Bowls, down the road, will lift their Brand. Texans will watch..... Of course the PAC may not expand, so Houston may really have this amazing opportunity at the P5 level. Fun stuff. It will be fun watching Texas and or A&M playing in the Outback bowl with 9-3 or 8-4 records against a 9-3 or 8-4 Trojan squad carrying the second level of the BIG. Wait A&M didnt even make a bowl with the #1 recruiting class. This is going to be fun to watch. Especially when Houston and SMU take their share of 4☆ recruits from the SEC and Big 12. And SDSU gives SoCal high level recruits the opportunity to not travel 60k to 80k miles in their total college careers. GO DUCKS..... -
'New Entrants' to Pac-12 Media Deal per Canzano
HappyToBeADuck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Well it just depends on whether you view things with your cup half full or your cup half empty. Rushing a complex agreement usually leads to someone being disappointed. The more parties entering the mix, the more complex. Being patient as this unfolds seems prudent. The longer this takes may mean the better the deal. This is very complex and uncharted territory. Consider that the NFL told Amazon, you pay this much money and you get 1 game a week on Thursday nights. Amazon did not get the entire NFL to cover. The Tier 1 rights holder has the entire conference to cover. Arizona subscribers will want to see their schools covered. Ducks fans want to see every Oregon game as a subscriber. Just an example of items that need to be worked out. You know, the G5 Big 12 panicked and for no increase in money. Just 3 more years under contract. Hats off to GK and the schools for not panicking. Sticking together and being patient. The pay day may not be SEC/BIG money. As long as it beats the G5 Big 12 then that works...... -
What Are Realistic Expectations for Oregon in 2023?
HappyToBeADuck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
At least 5 teams can and should put up 38 plus points per game in the PAC this season. Maybe more. The team with the most disruptive D unit will leave Vegas with the PAC Title. I am betting on DL, his schemes and the freaks he brought on. GO DUCKS......... -
What Are Realistic Expectations for Oregon in 2023?
HappyToBeADuck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
My expectation for OBD's in 2023 is 11-1 in the regular season. 10-2 would show improvement but it doesn't feel satisfying for this fan. Joshua, i agree with you on the 8 teams the Ducks should win convincingly. On the national landscape a lopsided score, on the road at Texas Tech will set well with the ranking voters...... No stumbles against teams you should thrash. The Ducks should defend the home turf and give the traitors of Troy and little brother the beatings they deserve. On the road, Utah amd uw will be hard fought games. I expect the Ducks to split those 2 games. This expectation is based on the following: The O Line jells early and gives Bo the protection he received last year. Clear blocking lanes and time for routes to come open are a must. The D unit must improve and get off the field on 3rd down. Limit the amount of plays our opponents have on offense. Generate sacks and cause turnovers. Bo stays healthy. This may be the first time in CF that the QB is a 5th year starter. Not a 4th year starter in his 5th season. Their is no way to replace the in game experience that Bo brings to the field. When Bo gets his invite to New York our OBD's should be headed to the CFP........ -
JJ thanks for all that information. It's alot to take in and digest. Some good stuff to ponder. Some of my thoughts i have mentioned before, so i apologize for the repetition. But with ESPN on the chopping block, with a potential change of management the landscape has changed. On the business side, i agree with you that the PAC missed out on an unusual business opportunity to eliminate a competitor. And then be able to assimilate that competitors best remaining properties. Once in a lifetime for sure. Originally, the slimeball USC President actively worked the room to stop expansion. However, the PAC 10 had the opportunity after the traitors made the announcement. They missed an opportunity to control the landscape. Had the PAC brought in at a minimum of 6 Big 12 teams then Fox and the failing ESPN networks would have had no choice to offer the PAC 16 a linear deal. Water under the bridge. Two thoughts at this point: First, Wazzu and Beavus carry numbers far above their weight because they play Utah, uw and Oregon, as well as the traitors. Those games are must watch TV because Wazzu and Beavus can, will and have won some of those games. SDSU and SMU numbers will rise significantly as a P5 member and playing against 3 or 4 Top 25 teams every year. Big difference in viewing numbers, playing Utah, as opposed to Fresno State or whoever SMU plays, for either school. Oregon at SMU at 7 pm CST/ 5 pm PST would draw a few million eyes on linear TV. Texas fans will watch that game. Second, market share and eyeballs dont matter as much for streaming companies. Amazon wants millions of new Prime Subscriptions, the monthly fees and opportunity to promote the products they offer. Amazon is in the business of moving and selling products. If covering a conference's sports brings millions of new MONTHLY subscribers then it is a success. SMU, SDSU, BSU and UNLV could bring in many new suscribers. Now, I am confident that many PAC 10 fans already have Amazon or Apple subscriptions. But those streaming giants want more. Once, whichever Streamer secures the TIER 1 Media rights, they can sell the TIER 2 rights to linear providers. They can recoup millions and minimize their investment. All in the name of new subscriptions. Consider that the brain trust at Disney/ESPN/ABC made the decision to move ESPN to streaming subscriptions. A decision to eliminate the middleman and be a part of the sports media broadcast future. IMHO, with no facts or sources, once ESPN went up for sale or for a new managing partnership, the PAC media deal went on hold. Its not dead, just on hold. WHY? Because whatever streamer controls ESPN has media contracts with the SEC, ACC and splits Big 12 with Fox. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a streamer that wants sports content. This will take awhile to unfold, especially if Amazon, Apple and Google start a bidding war. ESPN will eventually bring millions of monthly subscribers ro the winner. Not ro mention that cable will take a huge hit. This is business, big business. The PAC whatever may very well be in the right place at the right time. Buckle up because we may have to wait until early 2024 for this all to unfold. We all have been talking about the future and the changes coming. ESPN just opened the door for the Streaming Giants to jump into the deep end of the pool on those changes.

Jordan Burch Highlights: TRY to Not Get Excited!
HappyToBeADuck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
That was fun to watch and very exciting. The entire defense will benefit from his presence on the field. All last season the Ducks front 7 was so close to getting a sack or a TFL. They seemed to lack the closing speed. This young man can close. Thanks Charles for the video clips and a glance at what may be the best defensive player in the PAC in 2023. I cannot contain my excitement! -
Thanks for posting this article P Duck. Always refreshing to read an article with a positive outlook about DL and the Ducks. Two comments caught my attention and got me to pondering. First, the comment about if Mario had not left for Miami most would expect Oregon to still be on a upward trajectory and potentially competing on the national stage. Perhaps but I am not so sure. MC would still be recruiting at a very high level. But MC's in game coaching skills were lacking. The offense was throttled down. Thats not a recipe for competing on a national stage. To me, the Ducks would not reach the pinnacle under MC. Second, DL worked under Sabin and Smart and wants to compete with the big boys. Once DL walked off the field with a Natty as a DC, I feel confident that he wants one or more as a HC. It will take a few back to back to back top 5 or 6 recruiting classes and continued portal moves for the Ducks to reach the pinnacle. The future is strong with DL in charge. This young man has the coaching recipe and recruiting chops to reach the pinnacle.

Notice their was NO MENTION of the financial or media rights dollars involved. Is the CW paying for media rights or just providing a platform? Remember CW did not spend a dime to broadcast LIV Golf, it just provides a platform. Let that sink in for a few minutes...... LIV provides all the production equipment, staffing, and on air talent on their dime. They get the advertisers lined up. Then LIV and CW split the profts. CW is not providing the production or incurring these costs to broadcast the ACC games. Most likely no money was mentioned or announced because no media rights fees are involved. The only conference more desperate than the PAC for money is the ACC. When the BIG and SEC are banking over $100 million per by 2030, the ACC will be making 1/5th that money until 2036. Kudos for the ACC doing something
-
Well its easy to be upset and frustrated by the changes that are taking place in the linear 5 market.... Consider these thoughts...... Because millions and i mean millions of viewers have cut the linear cord that means that networks on cable (espn, fs1, etc) have less viewers. Less viewers means less dollars in advertising fees... That means less dollars to operate your network. Thus the layoffs at ESPN. ESPN is in financial trouble and is up for sale. That linear option is fading fast. Its a fact that we begrudgingly may have to accept. The top Disney/ESPN are moving to all streaming because they are gambling that we will pay a monthly subscription fee to get our sports fix. That cuts out a middle man. It is clear that they dont have or dont want to spend the money to move into streaming. ESPN needs a bailout........ For those of us fans that want a linear option for the PAC and our Ducks, let me pose this question... What linear network(s) are knocking down the PAC's door with money and a linear media rights contract? The PAC does not offer alot of must see games. The value is not there. After Dark has value and that is probably the linear option for the PAC. But that will come at TIER 2 pricing........ Bad timing and poor decision making have placed the PAC in a weakened position. The market and culture is shifting to streaming. Streaming may be the only lifeboat the PAC has. And thats okay..... I agree with Charles that we should wait for all the final details to come out before passing judgement. And streaming will easily double the PAC's viewing numbers. It is clear that no linear network views the PAC for primetime dollars, at this point. Streaming at least offers oppoetunuty and dollars.
