Coach Lanning has been bringing up this phrase only in the last few games, and in today's Eugene morning paper--he referred to the goals of the team versus Stanford were, 1) win the game, and 2) play to "the Standard." I love how he is raising the bar of expectations for the team of player performance--and this is a visible step to trying to establish what he had in Georgia. Reference made often is how the opponent is the same each week, and it is OREGON. Again, he is trying to extract consistent maximum performance from the players. It is easy to get up for the big games, but you cannot allow the teams you should beat to ruin your season, as was common with the prior coach. I've noted also that he has not really had a "theme" or slogan of any type until now. Why? Because last year's team was so far away on defense from what he wanted! The standard had not even been set; now with superb secondary performance and a massive step up in pass-rushing...we see a glimpse of where he wants to take this defense. What do you think of "The Standard?" This QB cannot "Duck" what is next...

Hello My OBD FishDuck Forum Friends! What is your prediction versus Stanford? Take your shot and let's have fun with it... Lets get these predictions started, and remember I look for the differential between your predicted points with both teams from the actual points. I will use the tiebreaker information when needed, so provide all the data below! Entries without ALL the information are invalid, and predictions on other threads don't count. Please follow directions, as I need all that is below for tiebreakers: --the winner --the score --the amount of turnovers Oregon creates --the number of sacks Oregon records on the opposing team --the number of passing yards by the Ducks. My prediction is: Oregon, 42-14, 3, 5, 292

Did You Recognize the Fake Punt?

That is precisely right. I can't remember my license plate number! -
Looks pretty similar to a Blast-from-the-Past! I have it qued up to the play...just click. No. 46, Michael Clay, and Chip did it from our own 28 yard line... (What kind of sicko remembers stuff like this from 13 years ago? Yours-truly!)

Uniform Reveal for Stanford Game

Yikes. Isn't this the same uniform we wore when we lost down there last time? Close...we had the white lid then... -
Oregon Ducks Football: 5 Keys to Beating Stanford
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great article, Alex, and the biggest point to me, refers to not running our quarterback. With all the weapons we have at our disposal, there simply isn’t any reason to run him between the tackles in any game, as far as I am concerned. Wide open zone reads, or scrambles with open field when back to pass, are the only two times for Bo to takeoff running, IMHO. Even then, slide and go, Outabounds! -
Thank you, as it is posts like yours that give me the drive to want to continue. Without all the volunteers who make this forum happen--it wouldn't. New OBD Forum Policy on Coach Sanders and Colorado...
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
You may discuss the FishDuck articles about the game--but steer clear of Coach Sanders, the hype....you know what I mean. -
From this point forward: if you have a violation post, there will no longer be any notification email sent to you that opens up a discussion about your post. Your post will simply be deleted, you will not be notified or given an explanation. Why? C'mon...you know why it was deleted. Rarely does an OBD member accidentally break a rule, and if you did unknowingly break a rule--you can go to the top of the site, and review the rules for yourself. We are no longer going to spend time and energy engaging those who create the half of 1% of posts that violate our rules. We have hundreds of people who write hundreds of posts whom have never heard from us, because they are "polite and respectful" to others in their posts--while making their points. If you cannot operate within the 99.50% that everyone else does--too bad. We are not wasting time on people like you any longer. You will see your post disappear, and if these violations continue--you will be banned. (I suggest you study the rules at the top of the forum) What if I Make an Occasional Mistake? No sweat, as we all mess-up once in a while, as none of us wear halos here. Learn from your error, and we move forward and forget about it. And yes...we are keeping track of how many violations you have, so keep your posts clean, be "polite and respectful," and you will have no problems. What if I am New Here? As my mother would say...."tough." Read the rules, as there are no excuses. It is not hard to be a nice person, and post as 99.50% do. We have something special here, and we certainly welcome new members and invite them to post their thoughts often. This is just another step in retaining our GREEN REFUGE, and making this the place to read about Our Beloved Ducks and discuss them. It is wonderful to have a safe place to read and post! Louis Vuitton Not Good Enough For Oregon
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Before you post a response--be sure to read the Pinned Post at the top of the forum about our new policy concerning Coach Sanders and Colorado... -
From this point forward, we will NOT allow discussion to take place concerning Coach Deion Sanders, his promotional tactics, or anything that you know will stir the pot, such as national reaction from other media sources, etc. If you violate this, the post will be deleted immediately--even if only a small part is in violation. If you attempt to post it again or something similar that violates our intention of a tranquil forum--you will be banned. We are not doing this again. EVER. We may discuss Oregon in that game, the game itself, Coach Dan Lanning, his staff and players. My Duck-Buddies....let's move on to the next game versus Stanford, and the rest of the season. Charles

Is NIL + Portal the Great Equalizer?
Charles Fischer replied to Dr Hilarius's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Certainly NIL has changed things for the top teams, but for the majority of those teams who lose the players--they may not agree. I believe the biggest factor in the success of the current Pac-12 are the great coaching hires. NIL will not make a great coach, but a coach like Lanning makes NIL work for him by going out and recruiting tons of portal players to create depth like I've never seen at Oregon before. I don't think NIL would have helped Clay Helton at USC, but Lincoln Riley has made the most of it. NIL has not changed the fortunes much at Oregon State, but Jonathan Smith has. And I don't know if Justin Wilcox can even spell NIL... -

National Perception of Oregon / Colorado After the Game?

My thoughts? 1. Oregon will win big. Duck secondary will have a big game... 2. In recruiting--Oregon will get theirs. -
Stein Surprises: Oregon Unveils a NEW/OLD Zone-Read?
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I am still chewing on the thought of what Stein is doing. He is stretching the field horizontally with this play, but it’s also stretching it vertically with Bird-Bombs. He could end up totally stretching the field, unlike any coach we have had here before! -
Oregon Ducks Favored by 21 Points Against Colorado: Too High?
Charles Fischer replied to a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This is a great preview for how the new, improved defensive backfield. If we do well in this game, as I anticipate, it will bode very well with the rest of Conference play. I thought the Hawaii game would be that indicator, but I think their receivers are much slower than what we will see in conference play. -
Stein Surprises: Oregon Unveils a NEW/OLD Zone-Read?
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This is a classic Outside Zone in one direction, and it can go for BIG chunk yardage when blocked well. Because of all the eye-candy on the other side of the play--the Ducks have an excellent chance at hat-on-hat blocking, or close enough to where Bucky can make one guy miss, and take it to the house. As LaMichael did so often... If the defender being read does chase the running back--the QB has a lane to pick up chunk yardage on the backside of the defense. And don't sleep on the Bubble Screen, because with TEs blocking smaller DBs--this could also do well. Especially with the new freshman No. 18, Kenyon Sadiq, who really has wheels. -

Stein Surprises: Oregon Unveils a NEW/OLD Zone-Read?
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This happened often for Chip's O-Line as well. The important thing is that when a defensive lineman has penetration into the backfield--that the offensive lineman simply shields him from the running back. That was done in this example, thus it did not blow up the play. But your overall point is well taken; they do not block this as well as the teams of 2010-2015, because the precise expertise in coaching is unavailable. I lamented how they treated Steve Greatwood when Helfrich was fired, because when Greatwood left....all the institutional knowledge on "how to block this" was lost. I went to a coaching clinic a decade ago when Greatwood spoke. He detailed everything with every step an offensive lineman would take with the Outside Zone...movement of the feet correctly, the placement of the hips, the hand placement, etc. They truly had it down to science, and thus why they could run it so often, and so successfully. There was the story of the Oregon State DC in 2009 who shouted in frustration at his defense...."it is the same fricken play!" -
This is from a pay-site, thus I could not bring the entire article. But we have FIVE portal transfers that could make an impact, and this is NOT counting the high school recruits coming. Oregon also dipped into the portal, landing outfielders Mason Neville, Jeffrey Heard, and Justin Casella. Pitching wise, Oregon added Gonzaga transfer Bradley Mullan and Quinnipiac transfer Kevin Seitter. "Time will tell, but they've had success. Those are really good players," said head coach Mark Wasikowski about the transfer additions. "Mason Neville is a guy that's a really good player, was a really good player in high school. We recruited him hard, he chose to go to Arkansas now he's back, which is great. We're thrilled to have him, and all the kids have things they need to improve upon. But there's a couple of kids now that you mentioned that they've had some real success at the college level and should help." "I played with Mason growing up, so I got a good relationship with him," said first baseman Jacob Walsh. "I'm excited to see him this year. Justin, we've been getting close. I've been talking with him a lot. He's been in my hitting group, so excited to see him go. And Heard, he's a stud, he frickin mashes the baseball, so I'm super excited to see him."
