  1. We know Dan Lanning is well compensated, and will be well loved when he wins one national championship at Oregon, whereas it would be one of simply meeting expectations at Alabama. Norvell? So many years of losing at Florida State after Bobby Bowden, and Norvell brings them an undefeated season? Do you think the fans there want to let him go? Do you think he will be loved more at Alabama than among Seminole fans? I don’t see him leaving either… Ditto for DeBoer at Washington, Kiffin at Ole Miss, and Freeman at Notre Dame. Sark has a pretty good thing going at Texas, would their fans let him go after all the so-so years of Longhorn football? Who in their right mind would want to follow Saban, when you can be idolized at your current school? Could Alabama have to turn to the second tier of coaches?
  2. As if it was not going to be hard enough for a coach to follow Nick Saban...it just went up a few notches. While driving to the office from an appointment--I heard on Colin Cowherd that Saban is going to "remain at the university for some time" after he passes the baton. So a new coach has to duplicate what the best college coach ever has done AND begin his time at Alabama with the legend looking over his shoulder? Saban is still going to be on campus, and thus his shadow will remain in everyone's view. A new coach has to have full attention on him from the team, without any distractions. Think Nick hanging around would bother you if you were the new coach? Boy, Dan dodged a big one.
  3. Last note...apparently there is more to Dan Lanning's contract than we realized. By winning 10 games, it is now automatically extended to 2029 and receiving 9.2 million that year. There is also deferred compensation of an undisclosed amount that would bump his annual current salary up from the seven million. And it is rumored there is NIKE stock involved that becomes his when he stays a given amount of time?
  4. Keep in mind that Dan took a few days to respond to the Texas A&M rumors... My FishDuck Friends...I have to get to work. Somebody take over!
  5. From an Alabama site early this morning....
  6. This morning's Vegas odds... (Of course Vegas said we would beat UW twice...)
  7. "Trust me....he isn't going anywhere." (Pic from that infamous news conference)
  8. Keep in mind that Lanning is a master at recruiting, and uses every opportunity to enhance the brand and our profile. If he turns down Alabama because "we have something special going on in Oregon,"....a ton of recruits will want to know "what is it?" Or, we're being played?
  9. From an Alabama site last evening...
  10. In another thread, TFITZ81 wrote..."Lanning had a team dinner at his house yesterday and was not in Tuscaloosa according to several players."
  11. At this moment, we know nothing. Is he in Alabama interviewing or not? Post here when you read something, or start a new thread.
  12. Guys…this thread is taking a creepy turn, so let’s start a new one and refrain from suggesting violating a coach’s privacy.
  13. Lanning would not be doing anything exceptional winning a 'Natty at Alabama, and in fact if he doesn't--he's gone. But at Oregon...he can do it, and be legendary among us. I believe he will stay if offered.
  14. I love watching players emerge, or improve and get their confidence. Seeing Bassa answer the call at inside linebacker, and watching Tez explode in the last half of the season was great fun for me.
  15. Yep, I don't think Oregon is green with Penix-Envy now...
  16. It is he who broke the recruiting glass ceiling at Oregon. Before he left--he had the No. 3 recruiting class in the nation. Cristobal rescued most of it, but no one had as high a recruiting ranking before or since.
  17. Dav3d....for a first post--you can't do any better! You are one of us already...WELCOME!
