Oregon's defensive stats look...undesirable, but the key element are turnovers (done well at) and points allowed. At 22.40 points per game allowed--the defense is giving the Ducks a real chance at winning.

No Booing Except Bad Ref Calls
Charles Fischer replied to Happyduckster's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
My friends, what you see above is an example of what we do NOT do on this site, and there has been a ton of it recently. Normally I deal with this privately, but I think a public example is appropriate with what I've been dealing with. Note what she did; she insulted anyone who disagreed with her, and we don't do that here regardless of the topic. Disagreement is great, but disparaging others to make your point about being classy--doesn't resonate. She is new and did what many do; she ignored the rules or doesn't think they apply to her. Do NOT Throw Group-Shade Everyone please see No. 2 with our rules. Throwing Group-Shade is meant to discourage others from writing an opposing view, and we don't allow it. It would be like me writing that those who write as this person above did is a "Sunshine-Pumper" or a "Cristobal Suck-Up." You have never seen anything like that in anyone's writing on one side, while some of the arguments against booing implied that those who disagree are childlike or uncouth. Belittling and maligning from both sides are not allowed here. Debate, disagree and state your case, but we do not denigrate people in the process. I am starting get pretty annoyed at the time I have to take with this stuff when everything is spelled out. -
I cannot believe how close so many of you were beyond the ones listed below. My congrats to all that kept the faith with Our Beloved Ducks, and want to announce how 81DuckAlum won the contest this week. Let's look at the top three entries... Winning Team Predicted Score Point Spread Turnovers Sacks Passing Yards Actual Results: Oregon 34-31 3 3 4 296 81DuckAlum 31-28 3 3 3 314 deschutesduck 31-28 3 2 4 225 smith72 30-27 3 1 2 224 The winning difference for 81DuckAlum is being closer on the passing yards, as he and deschutesduck split the turnovers/sacks and both had the same correct spread of three points. Whew! About as close as the game!

MC Detractors: Step Right up, Don't be shy ...
Charles Fischer replied to rden's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
rden! Two things, and the first is that I wrote about that a couple of times in posts and in an article. We don't have great alternatives, and I do like so much of what Cristobal brings to it all. I think in some respects...Chip is a better coach, but Mario is better at quite a few other things. His recruiting of coaches was a key component yesterday, as MC's assistants really did a fine job to give us the margin of victory. And second...great to see you make the Duck migration over here! WELCOME! I think I'll pass on this guy.... -

(Press Release from Oregon Athletics) EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon football team moved up three spots to No. 7 in the latest Associated Press top-25 poll released on Sunday morning. The Ducks are also up two spots to No. 8 in the new AFCA Coaches poll. The lone Pac-12 team to be ranked in either poll, Oregon is 6-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play following a big 34-31 win against UCLA on Saturday at the Rose Bowl. The Ducks have now been ranked in the top 10 of both polls for seven consecutive weeks, earning their highest ranking in either poll since coming in at No. 3 in both on Sept. 26. Oregon will return home this Saturday to host Colorado in Autzen Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 12:35 p.m. PT kickoff on FOX, with Aaron Goldsmith (play-by-play) and Brock Huard (analyst) on the call.

I am sorry to have started that thread about booing as it is truly cold-water on a great day. I was not at the games at Autzen and did not boo, but have my frustrations with the coach. I am actually indifferent to the topic, but thought the discussion would be good as the veteran fans that we are. So let's move on... There were so many great aspects of yesterday's game. Let's list them to give us perspective and what to look for in the final five games? I'll start... --The coaches had a passing game plan that threw the ball downfield extensively. --DJ James has pulled out of his and everyone's doghouse and now has the confidence we need from a corner. --The offensive line has been lights-out for all their injuries. --The technique used by the defensive linemen to defeat a great offensive line--was extraordinary. What are yours?

Five Takeaways from the UCLA Win

But this was a quarterback running the ball--which you don't see that much with a counter. I echo your sentiments about Moorhead... -

Naw. I don't want him to leave, but get better--as has been discussed so much here. -

I am going to politely disagree. “Hey, no more booing at Autzen. I don’t want to hear that sh**," Cristobal said on a video ESPN posted to its Instagram page. -
Mario Scolds Fans: "No More Booing at Autzen"
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Fans do not boo flippantly; they do it after watching repeated blunders over three years. It took a TON to get Autzen booing, Mario--ever think about that? You know....the solution is pretty simple, and it doesn't have anything to do with the fans... -
What he said about the offensive line--I have not seen anywhere else, as I did not know that and it is huge. And he is right about the resilience of this team after the mistakes... Canzano: Oregon Ducks win over UCLA Cracks up as a Statement on Resilience by John Canzano of OregonLIve

The part I was surprised at was seven passes over 15 yards...which is a big departure from the prior Oregon passing offense. A confidence builder for Brown? 5 takeaways from Oregon Ducks' Impressive 34-31 Win over UCLA Bruins by Zachary Neel of Ducks Wire

When a college student is told by a 40-some year old guy to "don't do that." What do you think they are going to do? -
Then how do we get through to you Mario? (Although it appears that we did?) You are paid over 4 million a year to produce results....results we have witnessed so many times over the years from other coaches. Are your goals less? Are you exempt from the judgment that every football coach has? Too bad you started this discussion on a day of celebration...

Precarious Ducks: “To Live and Dye in LA”
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Nope, IMHO, you have to be able to score a lot more points than Oregon is. Alabama will have more 5-Star players on defense than we could ever dream of recruiting, and even they cannot win on just defense anymore. -
Precarious Ducks: “To Live and Dye in LA”
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Amen...give me one easy game please! Because we know that the games in Seattle, at Utah and against Oregon State are not going to be easy. And Jon....you inspired me yesterday for the title, "Always say Dye!" -

I am optimistic that I cannot predict a thing about this team, and have no idea which team will show up on GameDay. But I was pretty happy with the team we saw yesterday!
