An article in The Athletic, by Austin Meek, who used to write for the Eugene Register-Guard, had some interesting quotes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From Dan Lanning: "We have our own internal goals and our plan of what we want to be. At the beginning of every year, everybody asked me what success looks like. To me, it looks like us playing our best football at the end of the season.” My Duck-Buddies, that quote above explains so much, as why is everything different this year with scoring, player substitutions, when freshmen play, playbooks being opened, etc. The difference is the new 12 team Playoff, thus business is not done as in the past. From Rob Mullens: Oregon’s move to the Big Ten brought stability, exposure and guaranteed revenue streams that were lacking in the tumultuous final months of the Pac-12. “The exposure, the reach, the connection that happens with that is great, not only for Oregon football, but for all of Oregon athletics,” Mullens said, noting that Saturday’s game on CBS will be the seventh consecutive network TV appearance for the Ducks. “We’re getting more traffic in the visitors’ center, more clicks on the website, more people taking a deeper look.” Oregon had record season ticket sales in part because of that game, and Eugene’s airport set a record for departing flights the next day, Mullens said. “It was a chamber of commerce weekend,” Mullens said. “‘GameDay’ was here, national television crowd, a record crowd at Autzen Stadium. It was fun to have the game that everybody anticipated, two teams battling right down to the end.” My Duck-Buddies, we're in a different world now!

Redundancy, and How Long Before You're A Duck?
Charles Fischer replied to DanLduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think you make a great point....for Oregon fans. But the number of B1G fans is staggering; the alumni of Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, etc. are so vast, that I am sure they focus the telecasts on the new eyes watching. Something I keep forgetting is that the B1G audience is so large that they make MORE money than the SEC does. And that is saying something! And that is good for Oregon as our overall audience grows...even if we have to listen to the same stories over-and-over. -

The Bend-But-Don’t-Break Defense is WORKING?
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great observation. Our offense is ball-controlling a ton in the second half this year, while in Chip's days....we took pride in scoring quickly. "That drive took longer than two minutes?!" The pressure on Aliotti was much, much greater as opposing offenses were on the field for 2/3rds of the game. -
A player analyst I respect feels that Riggs might be the best RB recruit to Oregon in many years. He has already shown more speed and moves than Limar with one showing, and I believe they have been saving him for the games at the end of the regular season, and then he can play in the B1G Championship and all the Playoff games. Get him PT, as a No. 1 RB for next year. Interesting he took this guy's number...

Great DUCK STUFF, and Needling Our B1G Opponents...

No. 3 below is especially true as Michigan has the two best defensive tackles in the nation. I predict Oregon will run a ton of perimeter plays, and we will pass downfield more this game. -

The Bend-But-Don’t-Break Defense is WORKING?
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Agreed. I've written about that, and I believe it is the two components you spoke of; we are saving the more exotic stuff for the Playoffs, and we are beginning to do well with just four rushing. With this superb secondary....having seven back on pass defense is a real advantage. I was surprised to see us NOT run overload blitzes in Simulated Pressures against Ohio State... -
The Bend-But-Don’t-Break Defense is WORKING?

As I pointed out in the article, Purdue went up-and-down the field on us, and people were complaining about the tackling. After the game there were many who were horrified to learn that Purdue rushed for 208 yards on Oregon, yet the Ducks kept them from scoring. To me, that is the epitome of the Bend-but-Don't-Break Defense... -

There are a couple of sports at Oregon that we cannot get off the ground, and while there has been a distant history in this sport.... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon athletic department announced today that Graeme Abel has resigned as the head coach of the Oregon soccer program. Assistant coach Rachael Doyle will serve as the interim head coach. “We want to thank Graeme for all of his efforts with the Oregon soccer program,” said Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens. “We wish him the best in his future endeavors.” Abel led the Ducks for five seasons from 2020-24. A national search for a new leader for the program is underway.

Wow, we are hearing some bizarre stuff from the fans of our new conference! For as old as the Conference is, you’d think they would not be surprised by this stuff? A different culture, indeed!

This is going to lift his confidence at running inside, and this can give James more breaks, and help the team. Pretty cool...

Good point, as we are drilling down, getting granular to the smallest detail. (Shouldn't we be resting Jordan James more?)
