How Many Losses Can the Ducks Afford?
Charles Fischer replied to CalBear95's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The Athletic just did an article on this... --------------------------------------------------------- College Football Playoff Bubble Watch: Oregon’s Win Over Ohio State Comes With a Bonus In the BCS era, one loss meant a season with national title aspirations was mostly over. In the four-team College Football Playoff era, no two-loss team ever made the field. But now, with the Playoff field at 12, two losses still won’t outweigh what the most accomplished teams of the first half of the season have done. What often goes overlooked is the reward for winning a game like Oregon did over Ohio State in a top-three showdown on Saturday, or Texas did against Oklahoma this weekend and at Michigan early this season. The Ducks and Horns are at the season’s midpoint with big-time wins and no losses. And what winning quality games offers is the luxury of knowing one bad night can’t dramatically change the trajectory of a season in which a team has already accomplished a lot. To miss the Playoff now for teams like Oregon and Texas — and include Penn State after its comeback win Saturday at USC — it’ll take a total collapse. -
How Many Losses Can the Ducks Afford?

We can give up one, but then it puts a ton of pressure on the B1G Championship game. There will be too many two-win teams vying to get into the Playoff, and I would not want to be in a beauty contest for that. -
Oregon's Defense: Purdue Went From 49 Points to ZERO?

Purdue actually does not suck at the running game, as they had over 260 rushing yards at Oregon State on the road, and 239 against Illinois. -
Oregon's Defense: Purdue Went From 49 Points to ZERO?

With a four-team Playoff, yes. Below is a thread about an article I wrote giving my opinions on why we are not scoring as much, and the thread in discussion about it. If you want to discuss further...please post to that thread since we are discussing defense in this thread. -
We do NOT discuss last night's Oregon game here, as we had a separate GameDay thread for our game, but all the other games out there in CFB in this thread. (I will delete posts about the Oregon game, as we need to keep the discussions separate) Do provide score updates for these other CFB games when you can, as well as your thoughts of what you saw. A full day of DANDY games!

The final score was 35-0 and Autzen Magic predicted 38-3 and thus was only off by six total points! Most of us were a MILE off, as we did not see this defensive performance coming so impressively on the road. Now Grandpa Duck was the next closest with a 38-7 prediction that was only ten points off, but ol' Autzen Magic made it easy to not have to use the tiebreakers this week! Thanks to all for playing and CONGRATS to Autzen Magic!

Oregon's Defense: Purdue Went From 49 Points to ZERO?

That will be very hard to do once we get into the Playoffs--with the teams we will face. But for our remaining regular schedule? Why not break the record over the 12 games? After all, it is the... -
Oregon's Defense: Purdue Went From 49 Points to ZERO?

For those around the country that watched the Ohio State game and were impressed with the Duck defense....and now they see a goose-egg by Purdue at home after scoring 49 last week? That will surprise some pundits... -

Oregon's Defense: Purdue Went From 49 Points to ZERO?

John Canzano acknowledged the Oregon defense... "Give a tip of the cap to Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi, who got a shutout. It was the fifth time this season that the Ducks’ opponent failed to score more than 14 points. That’s remarkable." OK....good observation, as I did not know that. Five times out of seven games? -

Lanning has not lost to an unranked opponent yet. He seems to have them ready than most coaches in terms of the mental aspects. But this is a grind of five more teams we should beat, but could also defeat OBD. -

I started another new thread about the game--let's go there and you can start more threads about the game. My thanks! -
Look, I understand about the tackling, and I also remind myself that this is a team that lost decisively to Beavis. But Oregon did not play down very much, especially on defense. They were not perfect, but zero points is always fantastic. Surprisingly...we did introduce some new plays in this game. I loved many of the constraint/sequential plays that make the Stein offense difficult to stop. Gabriel was like our defense; not perfect, but....

Here we are my Duck-Buddies, the thread for pondering the actual game as it happens. Let's discuss before, and during the game! The vast majority of you are GREAT in this thread, but you must remember that this forum is different, as we require civilized discourse. Discussion of negative is fine, but don't vent on us! Rule No. 31d covers GameDay Thread Conduct, and it is not hard for the vast majority of us--just a tiny few who need to reign it in when things don't go well for Our Beloved Ducks. Let's Have Fun Posting During the Game!

No T-Ferg or Burch Tonight Vs. Purdue

Time for Patrick Herbert to get his targets and rack up some yards. We are fortunate to have experienced TEs to step in, and we hope for Ferguson's rapid healing. -

The Buckeye fans...those poor babies! What I want to know is...who is Larry, Curley and Moe? -
Thanks to everyone, as not only are his photos superb, but he has always been a peach to work with. Your donations to the sites help to provide the funds to pay him, the other photographers, and all the tech people that keep the sites safe and up and running. My sincere thanks to those who have recently donated and helped out. It takes some pressure off!

FishDuck.com is media credentialed with the Oregon Athletic Department, and you have to apply for a season photo pass or for individual games. Then I hire photographers to shoot the games, paying them $200.00 for usually around 100 images, sometimes more. I store them in Dropbox, and allow the writers to have access to these photos year-round for writing articles. For home games, I usually have TWO photographers shooting, so that we catch better angles, better photos and when you start doing the math on how much a long season costs--it is a ton more than you want to pay out-of-pocket. The money to pay photographers, (and the tech people, and all the tech costs) come from the advertising and the SEO Backlink orders I receive from around the world. I personally take no money from the sites, as there is not enough. But the good news is that by working hard with the SEO Backlink orders--I have almost enough to cover all costs of the two sites. The donations I receive finish off the rest of the costs. Due to this thread--I received enough in donations to pay for this week's photographer at Purdue, and I'm grateful!

Why is the Grass ‘Damn Green’ in Eugene?
Charles Fischer replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Deferred Compensation plans do not have to be reported, as they can be separate contracts that the public does not know about. The rumor was that Phil set up one with Dan with a reward for results, but also for longevity at Oregon, hence "Deferred" and paid later. All rumor, but hinted at in the past and could be uber-millions in NIKE stock. Golden Handcuffs?
