  1. UNC a B1G candidate? Yes. But NC State is not an AAU member school and this matters to B1G presidents. ACC AAU member schools - Pitt, UVA, Georgia Tech, UNC, Duke, and Miami.
  2. Power 3, if that. Miami was the 59th most (least?) watched in 2022 with an average of 608 viewers, fewer than Cal, Stanford, Washington State, and Oregon State. The Miami media market is smaller than the Orlando market. I can see the SEC adding FSU, the 15th most-watched team in the country on average in 2022, but not both FSU and Miami. Florida will be forced to accept FSU as A+M was forced to accept Texas but Florida will not be forced to agree to add FSU and Miami, a small private school without its own stadium. In addition to FSU, better ACC targets for the SEC are Clemson, UNC, NC State, and perhaps, even once-upon-a-time SEC member Georgia Tech. BTW, if asked in jest, you hooked me in!
  3. Jon Wilner in an article up today on The Mercury News, has an article up on the 12 Steps to Pac-12 Destruction. Paywall protected but PA Ducks has pulled a Wilner paywall end run on numerous occasions and hope she will do so here. Borrowing from AA's 1st step of the 12 steps in recovery - We came to believe that we were powerless over inept leadership accompanied by hubris. In summary: See Foot, Shoot! At every fork in the business road, the Pac-12 went the wrong way. Oregon leadership was part and parcel of this nonsense. But with the help of Phil Knight and NIKE, Oregon built a national brand larger than that of Portland's 22nd place in Nielson rankings. A national awareness greater than that of fellow B1G newbie, UW, located in the #12 ranked media market. Phil Knight and progressive marketing threw Oregon a college sports lifeline. Oregon had no other reasonable business choice than to join the B1G as a junior revenue member. IMO, this is a bet that will pay off handsomely come 2031 and a new B1G media deal; a decision that provides long-term security for Oregon in an inexorable move to Power 2 conferences, leaving behind a bunch of college teams that did not make the cut.
  4. David, with a Power 4 I'm not sure that the 6 conference champs being in the field will hold up. And come 2026, I expect a 16-team field with one team outside of the Power 4 promised a slot, no 1st round byes, and the B1G and the SEC routinely sending 3+ teams to the Playoff. If I am correct, which is, of course, doubtful, no Pac-12 team that left for the B12 and the prior add-ons to the B12, BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF, will make the field other than 1 B12 team that wins the conference title. When the ACC implodes and the B1G adds Notre Dame, UNC, Duke, and UVA and the SEC adds Clemson, FSU, NC State, and Georgia Tech, will there be a 'Playoff' beyond a field of Power 2 teams? Likely yes, because of anti-trust issues but B1G and SEC teams will dominate the field.
  5. OK, where Riley hung his hat and went playoff 0-3, and BTW, how has SC vs Oregon worked out lately? Now, Oregon has the chance to beat down SC every season and not every so often because of the Cali scheduling agreement. Another reason why the Pac-12 cratered is the Pac powers-that-be handing UCLA the easiest conference schedule in 2023 and handing Troy the week off before the final Pac-12 champ game. With 'friends' like these, why would any school with a better alternative not bolt?
  6. Here, FWIW, not much, is one scenario as to how B1G permanent scheduling football partners could break down. Nebraska, OREGON, UCLA, USC, UW Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Wisconsin Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Rutgers Indiana, Maryland, Penn State, Purdue
  7. Paltry? This is a future bet that in 2031 will yield $70M to $80M dollars.
  8. But, Show Me the Titles? 1 for the B1G (SIGH.) Since 1936, the SEC claims 30 football titles. has won 6 College Football Playoff titles. In the Playoff to date, the combined B1G, Oregon, and UW record is 4-9. Ohio State - 3-4/ Michigan - 0-2/ Michigan State 0-1/ UW - 0-1/ OREGON - 1-1. Show Me the Money! Yes. But the B1G is lacking in CFB/CBB Moneyball titles. Puddles, please change this ASAP!
  9. I have not been to the Rutgers Stadium. I watched Ohio State play Oregon in Columbus in the 1980s when the Horseshoe was still a Shoe. 1 game at Sparty Stadium to see MSU play Purdue. 1 game in Lincoln, Nebraska to watch the Huskers play Colorado. 6 games in Michigan Stadium where I watched FSU and Deion Sanders go against Elvis Grbac. 3 games vs Notre Dame. 1 game vs UCLA. 1 game when my daughter was a Junior at CU that CU won on the Kordell Stewart Hail Mary pass. I'd love to watch the fans jump around in Madison, Wisconsin. To see Iowa fans salute the kids in the Children's Hospital. And to see a White Out in Happy Valley. I'm hoping in 2024 that Oregon plays 1 of Michigan, Ohio State or Penn State in Autzen. Funny that this is the final season for the Pac-12 and the conference is as deep and good as it has ever been. But 2023 almost seems like circling the airport before landing in the B1G. I do get a kick out of the fact that Oregon is likely to play UCLA and USC more often in the B1G than it did in the Pac-12. Come 2024, I think we can count on games with UCLA, USC, and UW every season. All the best to the Scarlet Knights in 2023. One of the two teams that kicked the whole thing off well before there were any conferences. And the forward pass was missing-in-inaction.
  10. But not the group that refereed the Auburn BCS champ game, please!
  11. Tradition and trademarked market value. Legend and Leaders were stupid. Keeping the Big 10 moniker makes business sense. Something Pac-12 leadership seemed to be immune to?
  12. In the B1G, when Geno and Michigan reps talk, people listen. As the signing up of OREGON and UW proves, Traveler is no longer the lead pony in the B1G.
  13. This B1G move is B1G for Dan Lanning and Ducks recruiting.
  14. RIP! Hayes: The wildest day in college football history was years in the making SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM Remember the date. On August 4, 2023, college sports (read: football) changed forever. Here's how ... and why it was inevitable.
  15. Tough pill to swallow but Dennis Dodd was not wrong. The Pac-12 is dead as we know it, just don't expect the Big Ten, Big 12 or anyone else to take the blame - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Friday marked a death knell for the 'Conference of Champions' and the end of the 'Power Five'
  16. More on possible Playoff restructuring. How a shrinking Pac-12 could alter the selection process for the 12-team College Football Playoff - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Conference realignment could have an impact on how CFP bids are doled out in the 12-team era starting in 2024
  17. It's behind a paywall but Stewart Mandel of The Athletic (well worth the cost for this article and the coverage of CFB coast-to-coast), has the best article I've read on the demise of the Pac-12. Including this nugget: The B12 hired 2 big-time media PR firms to help with the engineering of B12 expansion. GK hired a boutique media consulting firm to help with media negotiations. The CEO of the firm was GK's classmate at UVA Law School. Can't Make This Stuff Up!
  18. Somewhat hate to say it but Fox played this perfectly. Purloined the LA schools and then waited and did not bid against itself before picking up the 2 best Pac-10 schools in Oregon and UW at a discount. Capitalism is not for the faint of heart and Elite Club karma is a witch.
  19. Sorry, Beavers. But how about a few grins and maybe a cringe or 5? 5 college football rivalries we so need out of the even bigger Big Ten FANSIDED.COM College football is on fire with Oregon and Washington leaving the Pac-12 for the Big Ten. The Big Ten just got even bigger! ...and...
  20. Maybe? CFB Playoff will be forced to change format again before next season BAMAHAMMER.COM Before the CFB Playoff actually uses a 12-team format, it will be forced to change its selection process again. Mark it down as a...
  21. 247 Sports has listed the 16 college football (CFB) teams in 2023 with Blue Chip Rosters (BCR.) 5 of the 16 ranked BCR teams are members of the B1G and to be B1G, including 2024 members OREGON and USC. BCR rosters have 50% or more 4* and 5* recruits recruited over the last 4 seasons. No school won a BCS title or a CFB Playoff title to date, without having a BCR. (In 2023, Alabama sits at #1 with a 90% (!) BCR roster.) The 2023 BCR ranking of B1G and to be B1G schools. 2. Ohio State - 85%. 9. OREGON - 67%. 13. Penn State - 55%. 14. Michigan - 54% 15. USC - 52% 247 Sports has also ranked the top 2023 Transfer Portal classes. 5 B1G and to be B1G schools are ranked in the top 25. 5. USC 9. OREGON 10. UCLA 19. Michigan 24. Wisconsin. What jumps off the page here? How about Dan Lanning getting it done in both recruiting high schools and the transfer portal? OREGON is in the top tier of talented B1G and to be B1G teams. Having doubts about the move to the B1G? I hope you had the opportunity of watching the B1G Network's fantastic coverage of the B1G expanding from 16 to 18 members with the addition of OREGON and UW. Compared to Larry's Loser Network, OREGON just traded in a horse-and-buggy for a Tesla. OREGON just moved up from the Frosh football team to being a starter on the Varsity team. OREGON will no longer be hidden under Pac-12 Network wet blanket. Taking a discount to move up? How about instead of viewing this completely logical long-term move as paying a premium for a future media money commodity? Next up? What will the 2024 schedule look like? I expect OREGON's permanent scheduling partners will undoubtedly be UCLA, USC, and UW. Oregon is now a part of "East Coast Bias." This matters. Last season Michigan played Colorado State, Hawaii, and UConn out-of-conference (OOC) with the games all played in Ann Arbor. Michigan was the CFB Playoff #2 seed. In 2022, Ohio State played Notre Dame, a big-time OOC opponent, no doubt, Arkansas State, and Toledo OOC with all games played in Columbus. A one-loss Ohio State without a conference championship was the 2022 CFB Playoff #4 seed. Oregon will no longer be dragged down by the reputation of its conference. No longer dragged down by an unseen and unavailable network. Nationally relevant because rightly or wrongly, a win over Michigan State will be valued far more than a win over ASU. And Dan Lanning with a B1G Deal to sell? Watch Out! HUZZAH!
  22. OK, Rob. starting in 2024 lose the scheduled games with B12 teams and replace them with the Beavers.
  23. Start by buying out the back end of the TX Tech H+H and buying out the Baylor and OK St H+Hs. Replace with Oregon State and do the same for the OOC games scheduled with Michigan State and Ohio State. Also, if need be, in order to get the Beavers on the schedule dump the 2 for 1's with Boise and Utah St. No B1G team should be doing a 2 for 1 with a G5 conference. Oregon doing all it can to keep OR ST on the schedule would be a nice olive branch for the Beavers and any disturbed state legislators.
