  1. I absolutely agree with your points David. I am grateful they came to Oregon, and even more grateful they left. WT gave us Cristobal. MC gave us great recruiting, which most of us never thought possible, at least not top 10. Our program now is certainly in better shape after MC, than after Helfrich. If we are admittedly in the "only a Natty or bust" group, coaches will come and go. We need to expect and respect that. No one seems to mention the coach's family. As much as we love Eugene and the Pacific NW, not everyone loves to live here. The weather, culture, politics, etc. are not every one's cup of tea. It is very possible that Mrs. Cristobal wanted to move. There are major differences living in the south from the NW. If a coach or player doesn't want to be here, I don't want them to be here. We should honor other's choices. It's what liberty is all about. Finally, civility is one of the things I cherish most about the OBD forum. I don't expect Charles to have to be a hall monitor either. We need to monitor ourselves. Name calling and childish rants are what we expect from that purple team up north, not from educated, intelligent fans like us. 😉
  2. Thanks Notalot! I like that name!! But I'll share it with Coach. lol But, outside of the yogurt, as a coach he is an animal on that side line, so Danimal works for me.
  3. You are a lucky man. My wife is all about the family and entertaining!
  4. Um, none of our coaches are named Graham. So, why be concerned? Only the analyst has an immediate connection, the rest have been elsewhere since ASU. Is this story due to a slow news week? C'mon. Let them screw up first before we get excited.
  5. I for one was glad AB played. He was starter all year, he earned it. Now it's up to coach Lanning and his other coaches to develop and prepare TT and JB for action. A clean start for the whole qb room. Nix will have to show improvement to win starting.
  6. Yes, but none of those players were around when he came to Oregon.
  7. Yes, some interesting points. My concern is the "unrealistic expectations" comment. How long does Lanning get before it gets too critical around here? If DL continues to get good recruiting classes, won't we expect to see results immediately on the field? On another note, I watched the end of the Clemson game. Reportedly, all his players healthy played in the game. No opt outs for NFL. That is amazing. Is that a result of good coaching, great identity, or why? Whatever the reason, wish we had it here.
  8. Thanks for understanding my sarcasm. You said it exactly right.
  9. I've heard that is a saying in the SEC. I've also heard that Texas A&M coach said that NIL has been around for a long time, only now its legal! I'm seeing some hesitancy in new coaching hires by Lanning. Worries that infractions may occur. So what. If Texas can pay Olineman $50k/year, anything goes. We want a Natty, at any cost. Right? So, let's get to it!
  10. Personally, I believe MC that he was all in while he was here. I'm happy for him and his family. I'm Also happy the new coach understands the importance of recruiting.
  11. I like this idea the best JJ. Now, can we sell it to the other conferences? The "playoff" has ruined bowl games. Even players have little interest. This idea could save a bunch of them.
  12. I'll take the optimism. Guys will be playing for pride and for each other. As it should be. I believe the players like coach Mac also. Could be a good motivation. I really could use a good game to watch, and what's better than watching a win!
  13. I don't think I've ever called him that...🤣
  14. This is what NIL can be used for, a booster can pay schollies for all "walkon" kickers and longsnappers.
  15. I think Utah will play like they want it more. It's been a long while since they had a big bowl game. Go Pac12!
  16. Merry Christmas fellow Duck fans!! My rule of thumb is to ask myself, "who really wants to hear your opinion"?! And as others have said, read what you wrote outloud before hitting send. Charles, you have provided a format where I have learned so much about our Ducks and the game itself. Thank you! People in my little circle of life consider me the "Duck expert" because of you and this site. lol We are entering a new year, 2022, that is full of much hope for our Ducks, and also so much uncertainty. The great unknown. I look forward to enjoying this journey with all of you here on OBD forum. I raise a toast to the continued success of this fabulous site and us members.
  17. As much as we love our Ducks, living in Eugene, in the liberal NW with the dampness and such isn't for every family. Not stating hard reasons for saying no is the classiest response. This way no one gets their feelings hurt. Whatever the reason, it's irrelevant. But, I think we under estimate how good Wilcox might be. He gives us fits every year. And let's all admit it, having the HC and both coordinators be alumni would have seemed pretty cool. At least at first. I am excited to see our growth and development moving forward.
  18. I think the reverse, would encourage him to stay with Oregon.
  19. When Oregon fired Helfrich, they left "family" and entered the "must win a Natty" club. Not being a blue blood program means we have to go with talented, less experienced leadership. Someone that is truly hungry for that success. I can't believe how excited I am about this hire! For me coach Lanning checks all the boxes. It is clear he genuinely cares for his players. He wants teachers, not just coaches. He will develop players (qb's I hope). I can only believe he will continue recruiting success. Yes, someday he will leave Eugene, but in the meantime, it should be a fun ride!
  20. He did say he wants to be aggressive on offense, defense and special teams. Also an emphasis on teaching and fully developing players.
  21. Yes, totally agree. Mature beyond his years. His experience may be limited, but it certainly has been storied. He has had some great coaches to emulate. I also am thrilled to hear him talk about hiring "teachers", not coaches. I'm hopeful for early success.
  22. He said a lot of good things. "Explosion plays" got my attention. Also "attacking" in all phases of the game. Servant leadership was another. It should be an exciting ride. He seems to have a maturity beyond his years. His players will love him. Let's Go DUCKS!!
  23. I gotta believe this will be a great hire. First of all, he has my name and same last initial. How great is that!! DL!! Too be honest, I am glad JW turned the job down. I was underwhelmed and uninspired with him or CK. A young, hard working, great recruiter is exciting! We should still be able to get top recruits. One thing for sure, our defense should be vastly improved. Maybe KT should reconsider and stay another year. Coach DL will start with a very tough schedule next year, one of our toughest ever. But, he is getting a team loaded with talent at every position. True, we will be inexperienced at QB, and that will be a need to address, I think his OC candidate is a former qb coach. That will help. I think we should be excited about this hire and about next season. We won't go undefeated, but we can still aim for winning Pac12 again. A week ago I was disappointed and blue, today I am excited and back to being green and yellow! I even want to watch the bowl game! Oh how I love to learn about my Ducks!
  24. I agree with the pirate on this one. What about last game of the season, why just the bowl game? In fact, why not the whole senior season?! We harp about coaches leaving early, but it's ok for players? Football is a team sport, isn't it? If your worried about injuries, take out an insurance policy. Ifo did. Marcus did. The school paid the parents back for it too. Go out in style with your brothers. Play the bowl game.
