  1. Football, and both bball teams (m + w) are the only sports that can give full ride schollies. All others give partials. That seems a bit unfair and I expect that to be the next wall to be knocked down in college sports.
  2. I do agree that there isn't much left. There are only so many time slots and FOX won't have any unless they show Pac12 regionally only. No one wants that. Mr. Kliavkoff would be the one with experience to work out a tv miracle for the Pac. Maybe revitalize the Pac12 network and get it available to more houses. Then ask CBS or some other network to run it.
  3. A great get! Let's go Ducks!!
  4. I hope Arlis Boardingham reads this article!!
  5. I honestly think most kids would respond positively to this type of attitude. Football is a team sport and they all know it. Showboating is a learned behavior. It happens only where it's tolerated. However, celebrating with teammates is often a means to continue the enthusiasm or "juice" as they say. Success is also contagious. A good play celebrated can "rub off" on a teammate. I think coach Lanning is one who relates well to players and they like his enthusiasm and respect him because he is consistent and keeps his word. They will want to play for him. I believe all his coaching hires are similar type of men. We will have a lot to watch and enjoy as our team develops its own character, modeled after our head coach.
  6. I never get tired of watching that replay!
  7. His motivation would be what's best for his family. If his mid-west values can stand Eugene and the PNW, then he could stay. The liberal ideology of the west coast is a far cry from mid-west or southern ones. Not every family can handle that. If he were to win here, he would get offers at a LOT of schools. But, I hope that day comes, that would mean we had success.
  8. Yeah, it's basically a long sprint! I ran it a life time ago...that and the 800.
  9. They have a huge following. Lots of tv viewers watch their games and go to their games. I have never liked them much, but they have their own mystique, or aura about them. Most people associate ND with football, Knute Rockne, the gripper, etc., that will always be the case. I want to play them so we can beat them!
  10. With the lure of NIL, I imagine it will only get worse. More parents will get involved too.
  11. Yet. Trust the new coaching staff. We will be better than good.
  12. This kid has only played 3 years of football. His ceiling is very high. The LO football coach says he thinks Justius is an exceptional athlete. One local sports writer thinks the difference between JL and Darius Clemons is minimal. I think we landed a "diamond in the rough".
  13. College football has always been the NFL minor league, or developmental league anyway. The problem now is lack of controls. And the real controls will have to be legislated, which will be years away. According to the Oregonian, athletes at our 2 Pac12 schools are averaging around $1000/athlete for NIL. That's not much. We've all read about the big $$ at the Texas schools etc, but what happens when they don't win? I see donors backing down from huge payments if they don't get immediate success. I know blue-chip players are needed, but anyone here actually think Sarkisian can win in the SEC?! I'm hoping that after a few crazy years this thing settles down some. That big $$ will want, no, demand quick success. Winning the natty is tough to do, even for Saban. Pouring $$ into a team is no guarantee. Eventually some type of balance will develop and we will have a new normal. I hope.
  14. If Travis leaves, he must have a great reason. Both Dye brothers have played their hearts out for us. They are huge fan favorites. For me, wherever he goes, and I hope he stays, I will wish him the best season ever...until he plays against us. TD has earned the opportunity to be the starting, full time back. He might think that his best shot is elsewhere. If he wants to add to his resume for NFL, he needs a place where he can get as many touches as possible. I hope Oregon faithful will not diss him if he goes elsewhere. He has been an awesome Duck. He will always be one of our favorites.
  15. Sticks and stones! I wish people would just grow up. Names don't hurt anybody unless you let them. That said, coaches gotta show restraint as leaders. We all make mistakes, but flipping the bird to rival coaches on national tv?!! Not once but twice?!? Seems to me she has the problem and perhaps the word allegedly used fits.
  16. I have a different take on this, perhaps the new coaches are studying film of players on the roster and having talks with each one to know their viewed potential. Two years in the system and zero game time? Perhaps he was encouraged to look elsewhere. Or, with most of the O-line starters returning, too many bodies in front of him. I know we need some room for the scholarships the new coaches want to offer. I'm interested in the big bodied Hawaiian kid and the WR Lowe from Lake Oswego. Both are "under-the-radar" 3* that current staff seem to like. Can't wait to see how their analysis turns out. Lastly, we replaced 2 defensive starters that transferred to Auburn with potential starters from the portal. It appears the coaches have made Jahil Florence feel the love and probably stay a Duck. The coaches seem to have things well in hand, I'm gonna relax about any more player moves. If Dye goes, it will be sad to say bye. But I'm sure he is doing what he thinks is best for his future. He has given so much to us, ge will always be one of our own.
  17. I used to feel this way too, but pro sports really is just entertainment. And the playoffs are the most entertaining. I think adding the wildcard to baseball was one of the best things ever, same with football. It makes games matter at the end of a season for a lot more teams. That's entertaining for a lot more fans. The ACC has doubled down on their poor decision making; signing a media deal for too long, and now nixing the early playoff expansion. This will cost them.
  18. Perhaps this means CJ is returning? Also, they said Dye is weighing options which include returning or NFL.
  19. Exactly! This is the most jazzed I've ever been for an off season, because there are so many questions, and basically no answers. Yet. Many good points have already been made, here are a few of mine: Coach Lanning has great respect from his peers. He has gathered coaches from all over, and they want to work for him. That says alot. He has stated more than once that development is as important, even more so, than recruiting. He says that was part of his choices in staff. All his staff choices are great recruiters and most already have connections with the west coast, ie. CA & AZ. He isn't afraid to use the portal effectively. A DB, and a D lineman that could both start were great additions for areas of need. And for me, everyone says he is a great person, that's big. I know at the end of the day W & L are what will matter, but in the mean time, developing boys to men is the key. Finally, knowing we have so much to learn about our new defense and offense and special teams, etc, means we will have tons of new articles and diagnosis right here on Fishduck. I can hardly wait to read it all! The next few years will be so much fun, and maybe we will even win a few games! The future is exciting. Let's go Ducks!!
  20. Shucks, you can't even find a green car in oregon! I know, I looked. Had to settle for black.
  21. Yes!! Come back Travis!! Come back!!
  22. Demetrius Martin is the new DB coach. His son is a 2023 4* recruit and has verbalized his commitment to the Ducks also.
  23. Christian Gonzalez has followed his CB coach from Colorado to the Ducks. He is from 2020 class and was a 4* recruit from Texas. This seems like a great get with our needs at DB.
  24. There is so much more at stake here than compensation for players. There will be a huge trickle down affect that will influence kids at all levels of play. How early will parents want the kids to focus in on a certain position or concentrate on one sport. Now, instead of hoping for a good education, it will be which school will pay the most $$. There needs to be more regulating of this freedom before it gets beyond help.
  25. The problem are the rules that limit colleges from acquiring players, or employees. The 85 limit is an issue. The real problem is that most "employees" as you say, won't end up in a better situation. Some won't even get a scholarship offer. Yes, a few will do well, most won't. The rich will get richer and further the divide between the haves and have-nots. Remember too, positions are specialized, and limited in number. How does a coach manage a team effectively when at any time player's can switch schools. Personally, I don't like the portal or nil, but that's just me.
